JaVale McGee Could be Taking His Talents To Manilla
According to The Philippine Star, McGee is trying to become a naturalized citizen of the Philippines in time for the 2014 World Championship. Since he never played in an official competition with the U.S. National Team, he's still eligible to play for a different country.

How?
How is he a clown? I see no logical reason for that conclusion.

You can't fault JaVale for getting citizenship in another country to potentially have a chance to play in the Olympics.
Given the way the big man situation looks here in the US, there is no
Other American players have gotten citizenship in other countries and played for the other countries, most notably Becky Hammon for the Russian women’s basketball team back in ‘08, and it was partly because she had no chance of getting in the US team despite the fact that she’s one of the top American point guards in basketball and San Antonio Silver Stars owner Peter Holt would say she’s the best.
For the men, Ben Gordon is playing for the UK though he is only British because he was born there. Charlie Villanueva holds a Dominican passport and plays for their team, even though he’s otherwise 100% American based on his residence (he holds the Dominican citizenship because his parents were Dominican immigrants). So if JaVale plays for the Filipino team, I understand why and it’s not going to change my perception of his patriotism and I have no reason to think that he’s not loyal to the USA.

What's Next?
McGee misses the 2012 All Star Game cut by a few thousand votes, and decides to participate in D-League AllStars in 2013? It seems a little early in Javale’s career to be settling for the Philippine Olympic Team. He is only 23 and has already come close to playing for the US national team. I’m guessing/hoping his is Pierre silliness that a Philippino reporter mistakenly took at face value, or maybe JVM was so embarrassed by Derek Fisher and the PA openly mocking him that he really is defecting.
He was close to playing for Team USA before, but if he is the goofball some of us think he is
I just don’t see Coach K wanting him on the final roster. Apparently, even he didn’t like LeBron that much either.
He seems to become more and more of a goofball over time. Blatche has never turned the corner, but at least he hasn’t regressed. Javale seems to become more an internet sensation and less a basketball player with each passing day. To be honest, I think he enjoys being/going viral more than getting praised for his game. Although there was that time he really wanted a triple double, same as Blatche.

Blatche was a little playful about it and the game was basically and literally almost over when Cartier got the board
but McGee was super ecstatic about his triple double when he got a dunk.
Starting lineup for philipine team with JaVale
C 7’1.5"
PF 5’9
SF 5’8"
SG 5’6"
PG 5’4"
Im not far off.
Haha

The guards are all listed from 5'10" to 6'0" or so
the swingmen are all above 6’0", closer to 6’4"-6’6". So the team is taller than what you put out there, though the guards may be close to 5’6" without shoes.

Don't believe their are phillipinos over 6' tall. EVER!
Do you always believe the media guides measurements?
by jmpalomo on Oct 30, 2011 3:47 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
No.
I give one to two inches extra to spice up heights for all players. I don’t see every filipino player getting an extra five to eight inches on top of heights with shoes.
But the tallest Filipinos on their team have to be over 6 feet for sure.
We actually put up a good fight against China..
who were lead by players with NBA experience like Wang Zhizhi, Sun Yue and Yi (He dropped 20 and 17 on us. I seriously hate how he didn’t play like this for the Wiz. :| )
We were dominating Korea, with their 7’4" center (Ha Seung Jin, has NBA experience and put up 19 and 16), throughout the whole Olympic-qualifier elimination game but squandered a 9 point lead during the final minutes. We were 1 possession away from winning 3rd place in Asia and making it into the Olympic-qualifying round. I don’t think we could have done that with nobody over 6’0".

What's the deal?
Our starting center is actually 6’11". We’re not all midgets down here folks.

I think McGee likes filipinas
and he wants multiple wives. I am sure he can be found in Angeles city buying mango juice for his brides. Then look for him at Sabang beach drinking red horse beer at a nearby disco and playing volley ball on the beach during the afternoons.

That was actually pretty funny
in the sense that you tried to use Filipino stereotypes(?) that I didn’t get at all. Disco? Mango juice? Sabang beach? VOLLEYBALL? We’d much much rather play basketball.
by Renzo Salao on Oct 31, 2011 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Volley ball is popular on Sabang beach
Mango juice is what the bar girls drink. There are a couple of “Discos” on Sabang beach. The kind of Discos where girls are all up on stage dressed in bikinis and dancing.Give them some money and they will go home with you.

Maybe he likes pancit?
and I didn’t want to mention women, but now you said it….
Maybe he has a couple love children there too?
I just ate pancit for breakfast
7-11 pancit in fact. I wonder if McGee likes dinuguan, otherwise known as “pigs blood”. Some people won’t touch it because it can taste just like a mouth full of blood.Yummy. If its made right its pretty good,

I hate to say it, but that ish is lame
He’s already made a fool of himself among his NBA peers, but c’mon man. And i say that knowing that a man can do w/e he wants, but I feel like he hasnt thought this whole process thro, esp on the repercussion front
Can't blame him
He has never found so much love and respect in this country.
He is going to guard Dwight Howard if the Phl team made it!
Does he have any ties to the Phillipines?
Is anyone in his family Filipino or did he just pick this country because he has been there recently?
Pretty sure it's just a marketing ploy
But I could be wrong.

Marketing for what?
Doesn’t really seem to benefit anyone right?

djnnnou's right
I believe there’s even a commercial of him for Smart that’s going to be on the air soon.
Smart’s higher ups apparently are interested in NBA affairs. The chairman was even offered by the Kings to take part in the bidding for the purchase of the team.

I see his reasoning but
I don’t like it. I’d rather he get practice reps with some of the greatest players in the world and be a fringe Olympian here than a standout over there practicing with the Philippines team, no offense to the Philippines of course
"I wear tinted visor not to trick other players, but so hot girls in stands don't see me looking at them" - Alex Ovechkin
But don't forget
JaVale McGee was a cut from a team full of fringe Olympians in the first place. Not one of the players from the 2008 Beijing Team was on the 2010 squad. I think it would be hard for JaVale to get another invite without a major jump in his play.

He has a better shot at getting to the Olympics with Team USA.
Some of the US players will retire after London, and there’s always injuries. The Philippine National Team is currently ranked 45th in the world, and usually only one country from Asia makes it to the Olympics.
I gotta say
As probably the greatest Wizards fan in the Philippines, this is pretty weird yet somewhat awesome news. He went to my University and mingled with our varsity players a little as well. He was hitting threes like crazy.
Mcgee generally gets worked over on this board, fans dont like him much
maybe that’s why he’s going Philippines!
What a loser!
Not good enough to play for his own team (USA) so he becomes a citizen of another country just so that he can play against the US?
Javale McGee = Not a Patriot
LOL Americans and patriotism...
I guess I can imagine but I don’t quite understand it. Simply because I’m not an American.

Not at all.. Instead of worrying about which country he wants to have his citizenship, maybe he should learn how to guard and score in the post and actually become a complete center finally!
This kind of crap is what frustrates us fans and is one of the main reasons we’ve been at the bottom of the league the last 3 years. It’s time for our players to focus on being a good basketball player (like John Wall does) and forget about stupid things like where they’re gonna be planking today and what nickname they want to use (Pierre? Seriously???).
I think it's the "not a Patriot" part that people react to
For all you know John Wall wipes his butt with the flag everyday. Who cares if Javale wants to play in the Olympics to the extent he’ll play for the Philipines, athletes all over the world are doing the same thing including many Americans.
This is all part of the UNs plan to take over the world
I look forward to the day I don’t have to kill for nationalism. I’d rather just kill for money.

Completely shocked at the negative comments
1. Who cares?, 2. It’s becoming fairly common for atheletes to do stuff like this, 3. JaVale’s inherent goofiness is irrelevant. So, he’s got a little island fever, so what?

I don't even care
Others have tried doing, like Chris Kaman and Kyrie Irving.
