Trade for Caron Butler and unload Rashard?

Could we potentially flip Rashard Lewis for the expiring contracts of Caron Butler, Deshawn Stevenson and change?  A dream, I'm sure.  But Mark Cuban is crazy, and he's locked into a team with a 32 year old star, a 37 year old point guard and a supporting cast in their thirties too.  He's gotta go for it now.  I'd even say that if we need to sweetened the pot with a pick 3-4 years down the line it'd be worth it.

I don't mind this trade

since this would free up more money for us down the road with Caron and Deshawn expiring. But the Mavs are deep as it is right now, and they could win the ship this year without Caron as long as Dirk is healthy, but he had a sprained knee recently so who knows.

I think Rahard Lewis is here for the long-haul

I am going to keep cheering Gil, like it is 2005. Lets see some of that swag return, because that is why we loved you to begin with.

And do us a favor Gilbert, beat Lebron in the postseason... and RUB IT IN!

yep, i dont think any other GM (not even Kahn) would be stupid enough to trade for his contract.

He does well i must admit, better than i thought he would, but man his contract is just a slightly tiny bit better than Gilberts and i still think Gilbert is the better player right now, hands down.

it could make sense

Cuban has lots of dough. Dallas’s window is fading fast as Dirk, Marion and Terry are getting old and Kidd almost done. And “Shart” gives them the scoring they’ll miss from Butler. Why not?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

There are probably better trade options for Dallas

than taking on Rashard Lewis and his $19 Million contract….

Minnesota has a couple young SF’s but no SG’s…
Dallas might be able to pry Martel Webster ($4.8 Million) away from them…

If they want to give up a draft pick, Dallas could go after Tayshawn Prince from Detroit – or Grant Hill from Phoenix… (Grant Hill would fit in real nice there in Big-D)

There have been rumors that Charlotte might move Gerald Wallace – another player that would fit in nicely in Dallas.

And of course there’s the rumor that Sacto is looking to move Omri Casspi,

Those are just SOME of the options available…. With Rashard Lewis’ huge contract, I would think he would be very far down Dallas’ wish list.

yeah, to move Rashard

we need to find the “Dan Snyder” of the NBA

I like the idea

With Caron out and taking into account Cubans personality, I do think the Mavs would be willing to trade for some points. And the Wiz and Mavs do like to make trades. Also, the Mavs window is closing considering the majority of that team is older veterans (Kidd, Dirk, Marion, Terry)

The combination of the above factors lead me to think a trade with the Mavs is do-able and we could get some real value for the guys we don’t want

by HIBACHI GOLD on Jan 5, 2011 12:50 AM EST reply actions

Except when we traded with the Mavs last time

we got nothing……

Josh Howard???

Howard isn't nothing, but he's not much either.

He fills the need for ‘veteran to guide the way’ and plays at a position where we don’t currently have youth to develop. But other than that I agree with Rook.

The thing is that there was no way we were gettting anywhere near market value, given the circumstances.

by jones-y on Jan 5, 2011 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

What makes you think we’ll get “market value” now?

by Rook6980 on Jan 5, 2011 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

A little late for this, no?

If the idea was to get expiring deals for Gilbert Arenas, we should have grabbed the expiring deal of Vince Carter…someone who could actually play!! The fact this was not done likely means Rashard will play here a while. If not, it was a bad trade.

by Herb Harris on Jan 5, 2011 2:01 AM EST reply actions

i agree it was a bad trade, but come on dude

Its not like Ernie passed on Carter for Arenas straight up and chose Lewis instead.

That does not mean he did good to trade for lewis. IMO if Lewis is all you can get, then dont make the trade.

by jones-y on Jan 5, 2011 4:03 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree

Look at Shard’s numbers for the Wizards this year. They are far better than Gil’s. Throw in the fact that Gil really had to be traded and its a no brainer

by zl on Jan 10, 2011 8:41 PM EST up reply actions

He is playing good, yes

Far better than i expected and he seems to be a leading figure in the locker room according to Blatche in the radio interview, but those are things we know now, not then. Besides, its a small sample size.

The Wizards can trade him

He just can’t be part of a package deal where the Wizards send out more than one player. Don’t forget last year when the Wiz got Drew Gooden from Dallas they traded him again a couple days later for Al Thornton.

OJ Mayo got into a boo-ray fight on team plane.

I wonder how much more available this makes him. Please get us OJ!

Well if he has that kind of mentality i dont like him.

How is that different from AB’s fight with McGee?

It's not that different

But I think there fight is barely a factor in people being done with them(specifically Dray). For the people that were on the fence about ’Dray, it just kind of knocked them off it.

Yeah

There’s a big difference between an isolated incident, as in the case of OJ Mayo….. and a series of events that indicate a pattern of behavior – as we have seen from Blatche over the years….

He's "delightfully cranky"

Plus

When I think of OJ Mayo I think of a Basketball Player. When I think of Andray Blatche, I think of a bathtub full of Cheetos.

by ryasch on Jan 6, 2011 11:47 AM EST up reply actions

Well, that probably shouldn't be a determining factor

Anyway, as it turns out, Mayo actually got into a fight with Darius Miles in 2008/09 on a team plane, also about gambling.

Link.

Well, it is for me

I make all my NBA player evaluations by what junk food I most easily associate them with. For instance, Javale McGee = Funions. Read what you will.

Any chance that the NBA bans gambling on team flights?

With last year’s incident with our team, and now this with the Grizzlies, I can see it coming….

I like it!

I mean, yea, it was over a gambling debt, but there is no talk of guns (yet)….

Go get em Wiz

It's Too Bad We Already Traded Arenas

Had we not, we could have resigned Crittenton, traded for Mayo and Allen, and constructed an All-Pissed-Off-Over-Boo-Ray team.

Well, we need to see how Caron responds to the surgery.

TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol

by Krobify on Jan 5, 2011 3:07 PM EST reply actions

I'm sure that, if the trade were to happen

there would never be any shred of intent for him to do anything other than rehab, let his contract expire, and then re-sign with Dallas (or some other contender). The knee, then, becomes a non-issue for us.

by jones-y on Jan 5, 2011 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

I had made a similar suggestion earlier...

I think that if EG can take advantage of Dallas’s moment of need to flip (as it were) the Lewis contract, he ought to jump at the opportunity. Basically, the Orlando deal got the Wizards only part way out from under the ill-fated Arenas contract. This would clear the decks completely.

by khrabb on Jan 5, 2011 3:44 PM EST reply actions

If Rashard were performing

I think this would be a different story. Hopefully he can get it rolling and a team with deep pockets, like Dallas, will need someone like Lewis. But I still think it is a stretch.

He'll be here 'til the end of his contract

Because this is a team in need of veteran leadership and he brings some. We have a good young backcourt in Wall and Young, so, Rashard will stay and be a mentor to our lottery pick who I think will be a 4 or 3 (someone that Lewis could mentor). We’re getting young, look at OKC all young with the exception of one of their captains in Nick Collinson. I believe Rashard Lewis will play a pivitol role in our future.

by adamvolo on Jan 5, 2011 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

I think you can find cheaper veteran leadership

If there’s a reasonable deal out there, you pull the trigger.
