The Reason Trevor Booker Has Not Played (and Kevin Seraphin)
It is because we do not want a consistent good defender down low, and a player with a very High Basketball IQ on the court. We just don't want it. The away game at the Lakers where Trevor and Kevin Seraphin were absolutely spectacular (exaggeration- they played really good) against Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom in that great 4th quarter where we almost pulled it off was just too much for the Coaching Staff to handle. That was way too much success for two rookie big men with the Wizards. It is kinda amazing that our best quarter, in my opinion, in this whole season had 3 Rookie First Round Draft Picks on the court at the same time.battling Kobe, Pau and Lamar. Kevin had 4 blocks, Trevor was all over the court on offense and defense. Trevor also had the speed to run with John Wall.
Guess who was the fastest player in the NBA Draft Combine this past summer? If you said John Wall you were close but WRONG. Trevor Booker recorded the fastest time out of all the draft picks. GOOGLE IT! This draft class by the Wizards will prove to be one of the greatest in Wizards history 10 years from now (my humble opinion).
Why are Trevor and Kevin not playing? That is a very good question. That is one you will have to ask Flip Saunders, Ernie Grunfield and ultimately, our fearless leader Ted Leonsis. Ted has preached bulding through the draft, like the capitals. Well, it's one thing to draft the players and it's another thing to actually play the players.
It really is sad knowing that our Two First Round Draft Pick Rookies have shown that they can play and play well, yet even when the Veterans stink up the place down low that our organization does not even give these two young men a chance to develop and give us a chance to win.
This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

These guys definitely need to be on the court
And although Blatche is a “young” player, we already know what he has to offer. It’s time to spread the minutes around. I hope we can trade Blatche and pick up a young SG with a defensive mentality (a sefolosha type). I’m not sure who’s being shopped, though.
Haha I'd trade Sef for McGee
Straight up.
How ’bout it?
Why? Then you'd have Sef and NY at the SG spot...NY is our best scorer.
can you say…LOGJAMM AT THE 2?
Hahahahaha I'm a Wiz fan second
And a Thunder fan first ;)
how tall is Booker?
He looks about 6’4" to me.
lol
no he’s 6’7.
He is a 22 yr old rookie, fast, strong, athletic, can finish above the rim and has a nice little back to the basket game at times. He lacks a money J from beyond 13ft, however, and he’s 6’7 tall.
Sounds to me like a developing SF. Not a PF.

Thank you
Lot’s of people think he is super lacking talent. All he does is hustle.
A ton of NBA skills can be developed and refined. Let’s give him a chance to learn to shoot. Learn some offensive skills.
I am going to keep cheering Gil, like it is 2005. Lets see some of that swag return, because that is why we loved you to begin with.
And do us a favor Gilbert, beat Lebron in the postseason... and RUB IT IN!

6'6.25" - 236lbs - 8'10" standing reach
In other words, he measured out at almost the exact same dimensions as Carmelo Anthony.
That, along with his speed, is why everyone is hoping he can develop SF skills. Otherwise he’s just an undersized PF, and lacking the extra 15+ lbs that other successful under-height PFs have. I don’t think he can just add that weight in muscle, because he’s already filled out and is very strong. Getting fat ain’t gonna help.

Charles Barkley 6' 4" (listed as 6'6")
How did the mound round of rebound become a Hall of Fame Power Forward when he is so short?
The bottom line is that Trevor Booker can play. He will play Power Forward, Small Forward or whatever position we ask of him.
He will also be a shut down defender some day in the mold of Ron Artest.

The answer is already there. He outweighed Booker by at LEAST 15 lbs (at his leanest he was still 252). You have to be bulky to be successful as an underheight PF.
Barkley also has no neck, so his standing reach (which is really your relevant basketball height) was probably better than Booker’s 8’10" (no measurements to confirm, just a guess). You can see here that Barkley looks like he’s exactly Jordan’s (6’6") height and actually his shoulders are a little higher. (With Jordan in the foreground, it’s not a perspective issue.)

I just don’t think Booker has the needed combination of length and/or bulk to be a highly successful PF. Can you find me a successful PF in the last 20 years who was listed 6’8" or under (and preferably with a standing reach of 8’10" or less) and weighed less than 240 lbs? Maybe Booker can still put on a little more muscle, but right now he just seems a little too small. Not saying he can’t be good, just saying PF probably won’t be his position if he does become good.

I disagree
Ummmm IMO booker is more like a buck williams than charles barkley… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Williams I would love for his career to resemble Bucks
Melo manages to be a good rebounder, and I wouldn't eve call that a strength of Carmelo's.

wasted picks AGAIN
Booker does have some game but he’s too short to be your starting PF. He can give good minutes and energy. Is that worth trading up in the 1st round? Seraphin is another project EG’s working on. His projects don’t seem to work out. If Nick Young hadn’t started off hot this year there’d be no draft picks on the roster worth talking about other than Wall and he fell in our lap. But I do say play Booker and Seraphin b/c everybody else wants to play like a SF.
Far too soon to call bust on either Booker or Seraphin
I like both of those picks a lot and I think both will be very good.
Whether or not we agree, they are stuck behind other young bigs, with a veteran in the mix. I’d probably prefer to have them than just about anyone else available at their slots. At the end of the day its an almost ideal way to conduct the early stages of a rebuild. Those that develop or improve either stick on the roster or make themselves (at the very least) very appealing trade bait.
One thing I find interesting is that GMs only get credit for picks 2-60… Can’t say I disagree (because most times, the #1 pick is head and shoulders above #2), but I do find it interesting.
I think they were great picks.
Almost everyone picked after these two guys after #22 in the draft are not doing very well. They will be big contributors next year.
