Around SBN: Upon Further Review: Bo Knows Longreads

Lee's sources within the team believe that Hamady has a future with the team, but it is not this season. He has also not yet accepted the team's non-qualified offer. The preference would be for N'Diaye to find work in Europe before the start of the season, so that the Wizards don't have to cut him and lose his rights.

So why not D-League?

The Washington Wizards: providing career scoring nights for unknown opposing bench players since 2004.

D-League

Because by doing that they would tie up a roster spot for him. A player assigned to the D League still counts as a roster spot on the big club. It appears that they would rather that he not be on their roster this season – but they see value in him for the future. The only way they can accomplish that and retain his rights (which is their preference) is for him to play a season or two in Europe.

Ironically enough, they may have contributed to this problem by playing JaVale so much in Summer League. It was previously reported by the Washington Examiner that Hamady’s offers from Europe were affected by how little he played during the SL.

because

as the story states, he would have to be on the roster here to play in the D League. that is for hte Wizards to hold his rights.

Don't we have three roster spots available?

If they cut him, it’s a pretty clear indication that H is not seen as much of a prospect. I mean, we might have Adam Morrison and Lester Hudson taking those last two “valuable” roster spots. And won’t there be one more open until Josh Howard comes back from injury? At which point someone else would probably be injured, or whoever is at the end of the bench could become “injured”. It seems probable at this point that we’ll never see him in a Wizards uniform.

injured players still count as part of your roster if they're signed, I think

unless you were the Warriors last year and you could ask the league for a hardship exception and then get a zillion D-league players to round out your roster.

I think you’re referring to active roster vs. inactive players
