Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

EPIC FAIL: WASHINGTON SPORTS

OK, the Wizards upper management thought that it would be a good idea to hold open tryouts for a new PA announcer. Although a skeptic, I thought that I would be a good candidate for the job. I've done public appearances, been told I have a powerful voice, have an affinity for the team and really... thought it would be a pretty cool job to have. So when Mike posted the announcement I quickly submitted my name to be at the tryouts on Sept 10th. I  just received the following email today:

Star-divide

Due to the overwhelming response, the Wizards PA Announcer Auditions will now be INVITATION ONLY. Selections will be made based upon the experience provided to us in your initial applications. Should you be selected to participate in the auditions, you will receive an email from us on or before next Friday, September 10th. We will not return any phone calls or emails regarding the selection process.

Thank you for your interest in the Washington Wizards.

So basically, you (Washington Sports) got your fan base excited about an opportunity to be a part of the club, planned poorly for the response, and then pulled out of your commitment to your fan base. A big deal? Only to those of us who wanted to be a part of the experience, but it is something. I guess this is just a venting rant, but I felt like sharing it with the community. BAD FORM Washington Sports, BAD FORM INDEED.

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

You are right to be ticked off — that was bad form. No apology in the above announcement, and even worse was the line, “We will not return any phone calls or emails regarding the selection process.” So basically, no apology to you fools who wanted to participate, and don’t bother us with inquiries.

I thought the Wizards organization was supposed to communicate better and be friendlier under Ted? Seems like the old crew that Ted unwisely kept on still operates with the same F U attitude as before.

You should write to Ted about it, KDP.

This isn't a hobby

Its a job and their treating it just like any other job search. If they wouldn’t have done this think how many jokers would of came to the auditions just to mess around and look like an idiot.

That is true, but they clearly said on the application that experience wasn’t required. If they feared jokers coming out then they should have been more explicit when they described what they were looking for. It is ridiculous for them to change up like this. Some people were really hoping for this opportunity and looking to make a living off of this. They were basically just using that as a mean to generate interest in the job without really being serious about the process. My guess is they already know who they are going to hire, like so many jobs, and they don’t want to waste their time and resources on bring extra people who have no chance.

This is such an extreme niche to rely on a real job oppurtunity

I know but people are desperate these days. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of people who would do just about anything to have a job these days.

I was one of those that submitted an application

cross my fingers that I still get an e-mail. Would’ve been for Bullets Forever folks to congregate before or after

I did too

and joked about HS experience in between references to professional broadcasting journalism/experience. Never heard back, and forgot all about it to be honest.
