10 Games for Delonte

Surprised no one else has posted this. 10 games seems kind of light to me, but I guess the lack of offers this offseason is the real penalty for Delonte West.

I’m not kidding, he could be the difference between a championship and a second round exit for them. On his own, he’s not spectacular, but he’s quick and strong enough to do a passable job against Dwyane Wade and I can’t say that about anyone else on Boston’s roster.

i think the lack of offers has more to do with his bipolar

not so much the suspension/guns thing. it does set an interesting set of priorities though when compared with what happened to gil. it’s not the guns, it’s the way you handle it. i suppose that makes sense.

He's not a bigger name and he was low profile about the incident

so the league didn’t need to make a statement by suspending him. It hasn’t even been a big story here in MD and this is where he got arrested.

Yeah - that was kind of my point....

In theory, there should be one punishment for an offense…
Instead, it appears there’s some subjectivity at work…..

1st Gun offense (Sebastian Telfair, Feb 2006 – carried a loaded weapon on a team plane) = 0 game suspension . I guess the Commissioner “bought” his story that it was a mistake.

2nd Gun offense (Sebastian Telfair – April 2007 – criminal possession of a loaded handgun and driving with a suspended license) ……. say you’re sorry…. keep quiet…. = 3 game suspension

1st Gun Offense (Stephen Jackson – fired five shots in the air during a confrontation outside an Indianapolis nightclub ; this AFTER being suspended for his part in the legendary Pacers/Pistons brawl in 2004)……. lay low, say nothing = 7 game suspension.

1st Gun offense (Delonte West – September 2009 stopped by police, armed to the teeth, with a loaded gun in his waistband, another loaded weapon strapped to his leg and a loaded shotgun in a guitar case) – lay low… keep your mouth shut = 10 game suspension

1st Gun offense (Gilbert Arenas – brings four unloaded handguns to the Wizards’ locker room) …….. but make fun of it ………….. = 51 game suspension

Moral of this story? Don’t piss off the NBA Commissioner.

add in the “pulling guns on each other” and that it clearly wasn’t a “mistake” (or be credibly claimed to be)…and I think you have to add in a lot for the showing up of the commissioner…

Personally, I think Stern needs to resign, although this disparity is pretty low on my list of grievances.
