WOW! Look at the 2011 Small Foward class!!!

2011 Draft and FA Small Foward class...

Star-divide

This is my first fanpost ever for any SBNation blog so you know this I got wide-eyed I was curious to find out who can fill that hole for us next year... Lets start with the draft...

With at the moment projected pick...

  1. Harrison Barnes (North Carolina) - 1st pick...Fr.
  2. Perry Jones (Baylor) - 4th pick...Fr. (compared to Tracy McGrady)
  3. Kyle Singler (Duke) - 15th pick...Sr.
  4. Terrence Jones (Kentucky) - 16th pick...Fr.
  5. CJ Leslie (NC State) - 17th pick...Fr.
  6. Kris Joseph (Syracuse) - 25th pick...Jr.
  7. Wesley Witherspoon (Memphis) - 26th pick...Jr.
  8. Jeffery Taylor (Vanderbilt) - 27th pick...Jr
  9. JaJuan Johnson (Purdue) - 34th pick...Sr.

Ok I have to admit I don't know #2 and 6-8, but they are projected to go in the first round so they have some kind of potential. Plus we have to factor in the little things as well. Most of these guys are freshmen, but I would be shocked if at least half of the freshmen don't come out next year. Then it is the too early factor(meaning they may not even reach their potential during the college basketball season), but i'm sure a selected few should at least be projected decent players next year. Then there is the potential lockout, which is probably the only thing i'm scared of, but other than that the future looks bright if we are looking for a SF next year via draft.

And then in the 2011 FA class, there are names like...

  1. Carmelo Anthony
  2. Tayshaun Prince
  3. Shane Battier
  4. Chris Douglas-Roberts
  5. Thaddeus Young
  6. Caron Butler

Maybe we should let Al Thorton hold the fort this year and go shopping for our next, big major piece to build around Wall. What you guys think???

Exactly

This is exactly why I’m fine with Thornton starting and Young, Blatche, and Martin playing spot minutes. I’m not a fan of Singler, but these other guys look good and could be available either with our pick or wherever we might wind up if we trade some pieces to move up.

I think he's more of a face-up 4, though

Perry is a wing player from what I've read and seen

Check out this excerpt from nbadraft.net…

NBA Comparison: Tracy McGrady/Anthony Randolph

Strengths: Has incredible length for a wing player – has a 7’2.5" wingspan … His NBA position is definitely on the wing as his perimeter skills – notably ball handling, lateral foot speed and athleticism – are phenomenal … He can shoot the three, or pull up off the dribble, but is much better when attacking the basket … He loves to work from the top of the key and take his man off the dribble, getting into the lane where he can use his size

WOW

That is impressive for a guy his size, he really does give the impression of a T Mac clone, i’ll go as far as saying he looks similar to T Mac if you look at the profile photo closely lol.

And don't forget the Euro players too...

Although this is an underwhelming Euro class, Jan Vesely, 6’11" SF from Belgrade is only 20 years old and should be a top 10 pick in 2011…

I’ve seen him play 3 or 4 times in Euroleague – he’s extremely quick and very fast… Not to mention that he can flat out FLY – He really gets off the floor…… He finishes well at the rim, and is very good on the break. His shot is streaky – but his mechanics are sound, so it may just be a matter of repetitions. He had some great “Sports Center” dunks – and the Euro announcers went bananas and ran them over and over again on replay.

He’s definitely got a little showman in his game.

He’s a terror on defense too… actually playing like a point-forward on Defense (similar to how Eddie Jordan used to use Jarred Jeffries)… Quick enough to stay in front of most Euro Guards, and long enough to bother everyone’s outside shot… In the games I saw, he took a LOT of charges, and blocked a ton of shots. Taking charges shows court awareness, and shot blocking shows good rotations and help defense; so I’m fairly sure he will be able to play pretty good D in the NBA.

At 6’11", I never saw him post up…. nor did I see him use his height to much advantage on Offense…. other than dunking on top of other players heads.

Can't trust the international/Euro guys that has projected high potential....

I have a theory with these European/international guys and its the ones with the supposed highest potentials never pan out. All the underrated euro guys tend to pan out. The ones noone really talk about during the draft and the ones that are not lottery picks. Look at the best international guys in the league…Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, Rudy Fernandez, AK-47, etc.. All of there were either 2nd round picks or late 1st round picks. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule like Yao Ming (never pass on a guy his hieght though) and Dirk Nowitzki, but for the most part they turn out to be busts like Bogut (well he is kinda panning out now), Bargani, Yi Jianlian (hope i’m wrong).

I did see this Vesley guy name, but 1) I don’t trust Ernie when it comes to drafting international players (hopefully Sephrin pans out) and 2) they compared him to yours truly Yi Jianlian. Do we need 2 Yi Jianlians on the team???

as long as you group them all together

you’re not really giving any of them a chance. You have to evaluate each player.

totally agree

and in the context of team needs.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

by GeoFly on Jul 21, 2010 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Bargani is good too

ok he was the first pick, but not a bust. I have no problem with the Wiz drafting international

by DaGribb on Jul 20, 2010 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

huh?

Seems like there are a lot more that have panned out than that. What about Gasol, Gasol, Deng, Varejao, Ilgauskus, Dalembert, Hilario, Barbosa, Okur, Krstic and Calderon…off the top of my head?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I agree with holding out from long term contracts right now

See how everyone plays together first and then starting putting the puzzle pieces around Wall. Plus the Wiz added a revamped young frontcourt and maybe next year will be a youth movement for backcourt.

The only guys i dont like from both lists are...

Singler-he sucks overall, is too slow…and he looks like a douche
Tay Prince-too old…has really slowed down
Battier-too old

guys i want the most-
CDR-I like him as a 6th man…NOT a starter…I’d let Al go and sign him
Thaddeus Young-Lacks some outside shooting…but very good defender and he will be catching alleys from John all day…adds some needed athleticism and DEFENSE on the wing.
Melo-well duh this kid is the whole package…

As far as the draft picks go…i haven’t heard much about any of them besides Cj Leslie so i have no idea

by tw10 on Jul 20, 2010 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

....

I’m a huge Terp fan and Singler is very good. I just watched video of all the high schoolers and honestly Barnes, P.Jones, and Leslie I’d consider the wiz taking over Singler, but Singler has the best outside shot and he’s a very good rebounder who hustles.

by DaGribb on Jul 21, 2010 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe a team or two would like to relieve 2010...

and start unloading players to create cap room? We saw how well this worked this year. LOL.

Kris Joseph is real good

He’s been awesome off the bench for ‘Cuse, and he’s getting the starting job with Wes Johnson in the NBA.

Part of Pech's Posse since 2007.

Come on

Lets reunite CJ Leslie with John Wall

I think he just means draft class

09 – Evans, Rubio, Curry, Jennings, Flynn,
10 – Favors, Cousins, Monroe, Udoh, etc.

by ToughHibachi on Jul 22, 2010 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

Man this site is retarded...

They have us taking Brandon Knight (the next Calipari PG…I think he will be the worst one out of Wall, Rose, and Evans…may even be good enought to come out his freshman year) like what are going to do with another lottery PG…we’re not the freakin T-Wolves.

by ATLredskin on Jul 22, 2010 11:17 PM EDT reply actions

If your talking about nbadraft.net

They don"t mock for specific teams until the draft order is set. All that means for now is that they think Knight will go #5 overall, not that he will specifically go to the Wiz. We are just in the 5 spot for now, as we finished with the fifth worst record last season.
