Around SBN: All Hail David Luiz

The Wizards have enough salary-cap space to offer James a maximum contract, a provision that was made possible when the Wizards traded Antawn Jamison to the Cavs last winter. But James, who has a harsh relationship with the Washington franchise, isn't believed to have Washington on his short list.
One of the reasons might be the unsure future of Wizards star Gilbert Arenas, who has been injured or suspended for the majority of the past three seasons. Arenas and Wall play the same position.

Great to hear!

First time posting – big fan of the site. LeBron wouldn’t be on my list of players I’d want on the Wizards. I like Ted’s belief of building a long term contender through the draft. I also wouldn’t really want Carmelo either in 2011. Just my 2 cents.

by gilsix on May 20, 2010 1:25 PM EDT reply actions

James is a choke artist. We don’t need that here. I’ll take Wall and Gilbert with our group now and wait till Melo or Durant in 2011.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

No Durant

He’s a restricted free agent, so OKC will match any max offer he receives.

Oh ok, well then we will have to go with the B-More boy. Fine with that….

a bigger choke artist than Gil?

I think all this talk of Lebron being a choke artist is severely overblown. If his supporting cast didn’t disappear on him every year – we are still talking about how he is the best player in world.

agreed.

Though the Lebron hate does make me smile a bit.

by BayAreaBullet on May 20, 2010 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions

sure its fun

I just think that since we like to get on EG about NOT doing everything in his power to make the team better, it would be fairly ridiculous to not at least test the waters with Lebron, which is simple due diligence.

I’ll take Kobe over Lebron any day.

You have to hate losing more than you love winning.

by Mr MaLoR on May 20, 2010 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

why?

Kobe had Shaq in his prime. Now he has Gasol. Who has Lebron has who was even 50% as dominant?

I’m not trying to come across as someone who is in the bag for Lebron. But its pretty difficult to dispute that he he has inferior talent to Kobe.

He was the one who kept on making noise about leaving unless Cleveland showed they were serious about building a contender

Enter a bajillion dollars of Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, and Donyell Marshall. That sealed their fate and I think Lebron def. deserves alot of the blame.

by BayAreaBullet on May 20, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure

So Lebron isn’t a talent evaluator. I agree with that. And maybe assuaging his demands wasn’t the best course for the Cleveland organization But the blame for player acquisition still falls on Ferry’s shoulders.

I'm saying he created an atmosphere where doing something was valued over doing what's smart

He deserves blame. If he was less arrogant and wasn’t holding his potential departure over Cleveland from the day he arrived they might have put together a better overall team.

by BayAreaBullet on May 20, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Lebron's a creep

But I also think you have to be an idiot not to take him if he’s available. If he stays healthy, he is a top-5 all-time player, and is a major bargain at the max. It’s ridiculous to think that he and Bosh will get paid the same. Lebron James isn’t an old Jaromir Jagr, he’s a young Wayne Gretzky. You’ve gotta take him.

by Stanicek on May 20, 2010 1:48 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed

Plus Lebron and Wall running the fast break…unstoppable. Just get team of shooters that can run and call it multiple championships

Lebrons not coming though…here iss to winning the lottery next year!!

Meh - money talks

at the end of the day, if the Wizards had the best situation, then Lebron would come here. I’m fairly certain that Lebron has been booed in more places than Washington.

He is arguably the best player in basketball – if he wanted to come here – we should make it happen.

Bron Bron in DC?

I could forgive LeBron if he would:

• Admit he travels
• Quit dabbing his lip and giving that “I-just-got-hit-in-the-face-with-a-sledgehammer-look” when his face wasn’t even touched on the play
• Quit whining for a call every time he misses (he’s been doing a bit better on this one)
• Quit giving excuses without making them (Not so subtle in my mind: shooting a left-handed free throw after you just shot a regular right-handed one in a 4-point playoff game – trying to show the world, “I have an excuse! my elbow hurts!” then say “no excuses” after the game)
• Arguing with fans in DC – only makes you look more stupid than the fans who trash you

I’m sure there are more things on the list, but let’s be honest with ourselves here – as much as I hate LeBron, I hate losing more.

My swag was phenomenal.

Worse than Kobe's antics

Worse than KG’s?
Worse than Shaq calling our former players girls and softies?
Worse than D-Wade destroying us and earning a million BS blocking fouls?
Worse than Jason freaking Kapono?

You wouldn’t welcome either of those guys here for the right price? Its just irrational. We don’t like Lebron because he is a source of misery as a Wizards fan. If he was inflicting that misery for us, than all that goes away.

I doubt that LeBron would realistically consider leaving Cleveland when it's all said and done

I also believe that we will be back in the playoffs in two years knocking them out, with an Arenas dagger through the king’s heart :)

by TheRealBigMike on May 20, 2010 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

Cleveland's future looks very bleak

Their only building blocks going forward are Mo Williams, Varajeo and Hickson. They are handcuffed by those contracts plus Jamison. They won’t win a championship and will continue to make the playoffs so they won’t get lottery picks. Lebron will be stuck like KG was. That’s why KG told him that loyalty is overrated.

by gorebd on May 20, 2010 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I may seem crazy but...

Kevin Durant > LeBron… Why? He (Durant) is about 5 1/2 years younger and has much more potential. Durant has only scratched the surface of what he can become (which is scary if you think about it). Also, James is not as good a shooter as Durant, plus Durant is a hometown boy and and James is a cry baby ;)

its a fair statement

I don't want Lebron

Not because I don’t like him. I don’t but I don’t have to like all the players on a team. I think Lebron is the best player in the league at the moment. I just think he makes basketball really ugly to watch, much like Shaq did in his dominant years. I din’t like Kobe or even Wade, but I love to watch them. I’m going to love seeing the Wizards run next year and I don’t want some hulk turning it into a football game.

Lebron is not on my short list either!!!!!!!!

I don’t care where he goes – go to hell for all I care. I would be sick to my stomach if Lebron put on a Wizards jersey.

Fugg LeBron…..He has not won anything and his attitude is crap. I think if the Wizards were able to steal Chris Bosh and Rudy Gay…..Wow. Heck I’ll take Joe johnson and David Lee. I would rather win with out Lebron. No way we can get Carmello or Kevin Durant next year.

by DC Stretch on May 20, 2010 4:49 PM EDT reply actions

What has Bosh won?

His team didn’t even make the playoffs! Neither has David Lee or Rudy Gay!
Joe Johnson’s team basically quit against the Magic. Why would you prefer any of those guys to Lebron?

Kobe > Lebron

all day

Again, why?

Who has Lebron had that even compares to Kobe’s supporting cast

The artist formerly known as ledellforlife.

by Sean Fagan on May 20, 2010 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Meh

that goes both ways. Stats pile up when everything has to go through one person like it does in Cleveland. Kobe can turn it on when he needs to, and can hang back when Gasol, Bynum, and Artest have their game going. And say what you will about Kobe winning with a good big man, Lebron hasn’t won anything.

by Team Serbia on May 20, 2010 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

That makes no sense

I’m not supposed to compare the two situations. Lebron has yet to play with another elite player, and no – you can’t count Wally World. Kobe has played at two separate points with two HOF’ers at the peak of their careers.

The artist formerly known as ledellforlife.

by Sean Fagan on May 20, 2010 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions

It's possible, if not likely

If Gasol can finish his career strong and win at least one more title, he might make it.

by steadyhand on May 21, 2010 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Stats do pile up...

When everything goes through one person. The opposite side of that coin is that that one person gets all the defensive attention from the other team. The fact that LeBron does what he does, with no other difference-makers on the floor, is remarkable.

by YellaFella on May 21, 2010 9:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Doesnt matter who you have. It has proven that Kobe is a better player, even announcers and all NBA associates agree with it. Its foolish to try to prove it wrong. 5 years from now is different but no one knows.

by Unxpekted on May 20, 2010 5:32 PM EDT reply actions

Um, yes it does

Kobe didn’t win jack when he didn’t have a dominant big man. Jordan won jack without Pippen. I have never heard one NBA GM or FO executive say straight up say that Kobe is better than Lebron. They all defer and say you have to look at the supporting talent.

LeBron is a crab dribbler…lol

by DC Stretch on May 20, 2010 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

You are right….Bosh has not won anything..but his supporting cast has been far worse than Lebrons. But his position is one that the Wizards need. Unless you think that Andre blatche can keep his roll going and staying out of trouble.

by DC Stretch on May 20, 2010 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

How can you not take LeBron...

If he wanted to come here? With Wall/Blatche/McGee/Arenas (possibly), the Wiz are built to run. That’s the kind of system LeBron should be in. Now, I don’t think he’s coming, but he’d be foolish not to at least consider the possibility.

To let hatred of Cleveland/Bron cloud your judgement is short-sighted thinking. To those of you who think you could never root for LeBron here, ask yourself a question: are you rooting for McNabb?

by YellaFella on May 21, 2010 9:57 AM EDT reply actions

For the Record

I never hated McNabb. I always thought he was a class act, even though I hated the Eagles. It’s completely different with LeBron. I honestly don’t have anything against Cleveland. But LeBron is a scumbag; a terrible human being. I don’t want a guy like him on my team for those reasons. But take that away, and sure, he’d make our team better. I just don’t know if I can ignore the fact that our best player would be somebody whom I despise.

are you rooting for McNabb?

Completely irrelevant. McNabb was always a classy guy, someone you could compete against and be angry at when he beat you, but not hate-able.

I think Shockey is a more apt metaphor (although he is just a shell now).

by MR on May 21, 2010 10:15 AM EDT reply actions

Absolutely relevant...

Not a perfect analogy, but it works on a number of levels:

1) McNabb has beaten the Skins repeatedly over the years

2) The main guy on a hated rival

3) A true star in the league, who had great success, but never got a ring

4) A guy who immediately makes your team much better

by YellaFella on May 21, 2010 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions

None of those are the reasons people don't want LBJ

I don’t think anybody would object to signing Wade, who fits all of your criteria (except he has a ring). Wade is a well respected rival (like McNabb). LBJ is…well it’s fully documented what he is.
