What do you want to bet
the warriors move up in the lottery, and we get screwed by a coin toss twice. With our luck, I am banking on the 7th or 8th pick. Ugh
I see the point you are making, but now, if the Wizards don't win one of the top 3 picks in the Lottery
You WANT the Warriors to move up in the Lottery. You want the Nets, Wolves, Kings and Warriors to get those top 3 picks.
good point
I did not think that by the warriors moving up (if we dont), that leaves one less spot for teams below us to move up. But since I am bitter at the moment, I am betting that the warriors and two teams below us move up, meaning losing the coin toss will cost us 4-6 spots
DAAMMMMMMMMMMIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE WIZARDS HAVE SUCH AWFUL LUCK
WHY CANT THEY JUST ONCE HAVE GOOD LUCK!!!!!
ERNIE GRUNFELD IS AN IDIOT!
SIGNING GILBERT FOR 111 MILLION
NOW LOOK WHAT GIL IS WORTH! NOTHING!
WITHOUT HIS CONTRACT, THE WIZARDS COULD HAVE GOTTEN LEBRON OR A DIFFFERENT BIG NAME PLAYER!!!!!!
I was hoping for evan turner or john wall. now look at this. we could go as low as the 8th pick. I was hoping to finish 3rd worst so we would have a high chance of getting john wall or evan turner. everyone knows that this years draft is a two man draft.
im sorry for blowing up. im a die hard wiz fan, just a frustrated one.
They still could get those guys. They have max cap room
WITHOUT HIS CONTRACT, THE WIZARDS COULD HAVE GOTTEN LEBRON OR A DIFFFERENT BIG NAME PLAYER!!!!!!
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
of course

still.
still. the more cap room, the better.
if gilbert wasnt here, we would have an extra 17 mill. to spend this year on free agents.
if i was a GM in the NBA and had 17 million dollars to spend, i sure as hell wouldnt spend it on arenas
not to be negative or anything, just saying my opinion
also...
on a different note,
i have been meaning to ask you a question for a long time, Mike.
so here it goes:
honestly in your opinion, what do you think the wizards record will be next year?
i know there are a lot of variables involved
but still, im just curious.
im not mike, im john
but i would estimate, wild guess, just throwing it out there, 26-56??

Bullets of Forever
Aye, win and you may lose your chance at a transformative superstar. Lose, and you might have your combination called first, at least a one in six chance. And writing on your blogs, many years from now, would you be willin’ to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our Wall but they’ll never take… OUR VICTORY OVER THE PACERS

So did you have to watch a clip
to transcribe that scene, or have you seen it enough times to know it by heart? I used to have an mp3 of it because I am a huge loser.

that was pretty funny morethesamewiz
i needed some comic relief about the situation
XD
Deja VOO all over again...
Just as the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter are called Lent, what should we call the 30-odd days between the day the NBA season ends for the lottery teams and the day the lottery selection order is disclosed? What four letter word best describes “endless speculation, persistent self-flagellation and rampant self-pity”?
wiz will probably draft cousins
who will then get his paycheck, get even more lazier, fatter, and with a worse attitude and will accidentally push gilbert over when running to the buffet table at the team hotel and break gilbert’s knees for a 4th time. Subsequently, blatche will get his braces removed and try to hit the clubs but unfortunatley will strike out with the ladies again leading to a Big Ben situation late night at some strip club with Javale McGee taping it. Shuan Livingston will relish starting in place of gilbert but then will slip on a pickle on the ground fallen from one of Derrick Cousins pulled pork sandwiches and will then bust up his knee for good. Nick Young will be running aimlessly on the court trying to catch fireflys in a jar. Mike Miller will become a female tennis player. Rambling now.
I call BS
There’s no way Livingstone stays with the team!
The rest… Yeah, sounds about right. (though we might end up with aldrich instead of cousins)
at least we beat those Pacers! Never Forget!

Well that was fast
Updated probability of picking in each possible spot:
First: 8.8%
Second: 9.7%
Third: 10.7%
Fifth: 26.1% (can’t pick 4th)
Sixth: 36.0%
Seventh: 8.4%
Eigth: 0.4% (that’s still really unlikely folks, though I’m sure the pessimists are convinced that this is where we’ll end up)
I don't think this is right
You’re treating us like the #5 slot, however the number of “chances” we have is not the same as a normal #5. We are tied for #4 and have only 1 less “chance” than GS.
I think our chances should be something like:
1 = 10%
2 = 11%
3 = 12%

MR is right
We have about a 10.3% chance at the top pick.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Darn
You guys beat me to it — I signed off and realized right away that I forgot to account for the even split of pongs between 4 and 5. Didn’t get back to it until now. It’s a lot more complicated to figure out — I can’t just copy what’s in Wikipedia! I’ll actually calculate and try again. 10.3% for the first pick is right — that’ s the easy part…
not enough time
This is complicated, and I’m out of time. So far I only have 10.3% first round, 11.0% second round, and of course 0.4% 8th round. I’ll try to sort out 3rd, 5th and 6th later (because I just can’t let this kind of thing go).
Dang, wrong again
Second round is 11.1% if I do it he long (correct) way. Either there’s no shortcut, or I’m just not smart enough to figure it out. I’m not quite boring enough to create the necessary network of conditional probability tables to sort this out.

I disagree with ppl who say this is a 2 man draft
I’d say there are 4 or 5 players who could be stars at the next level in Wall, Turner, Cousins, Wesley Johnson, and Favors.
I would be ecstatic to land either Wall, Turner, or Wesley Johnson. They all would fit in perfectly with the wiz. Im not worried as long as we land one of the top 4 picks, it doesnt have to be 1 or 2 in my opinion. Yeah, Turner or Wall would be sick and it could possibly still happen. But if we do get the 4 pick we would still be in position to draft Wesley Johnson, an unselfish, super athletic, team oriented player who can really shoot and has the ability to defend and rebound. He would be the breath of fresh air this team needs. He has an endearing personality and is the type of kid you want in your program.
At first I was all for spending money and getting a guy like Rudy Gay or Joe Johnson depending on what pick we got (if we got the 2 pick, draft Turner, get Gay in free agency…. if we got 4 pick, take wesley j, and get Joe Johnson in FA) but the more I have been thinking about it, we might be alright just resigning a couple cheaper guys (livingston and Miller). A team with Gil/ Miller/ W. Johnson/ Blatche/ (maybe sign Okur to play center) and guys like Livingston, McGee, Young, and Thornton coming off the bench could compete and we would save a ton of bills and have even more money next summer. Another thing, I would see that locker room developing a ton of chemistry, hopefully gil will come back a changed man (and i think he will). I would love to watch that team, and it is extremely realistic that this could happen.
Or we could go the other route too…. a team with gil-turner-gay-blatche- mcgee wouldnt be a bad squad (top 4 in the east) or gil- joe johnson- w. johnson- blatche- mcgee.. Who knows…at least we have options.
We can't get the 4 pick
It’s not possible.

Well, not OUR pick, anyway
We could always trade for it!
Really?
Why is that again? this sh*t’s confusing
Jeez Relax...
We thought we had luck by winning a coin flip last year, and that turned around and bit us in the behind. This is why it’s called a lottery. We don’t know what’s gonna happen with the lottery. It is not the end of the world.
I'm not real interested in anybody on the board this year.
As the Spurs prove just about every year, it’s not about draft position, it’s about scouting, and understanding what will and will not work. I just hope we don’t pass on another Dejuan Blair this year.
Can't get #4
Fourteen teams missed the playoffs. Line them up from worst record to best. Then you have a lottery to pick three teams to jump to the front of the line.
The Wizards are fifth in line to start the process.
If they are one of the three teams that win the lottery, they can move up to the first, second, or third spots.
If the Wizards do not win the lottery and one of more teams from the back of the line do win, the Wiz can get pushed back from fifth to sixth, seventh, or eighth.
There’s no way to end up fourth.
Lottery odds!
Here are the odds for you guys!
1st pick 0.103
2nd pick 0.111
3rd pick 0.120
5th pick 0.238
6th pick 0.342
7th pick 0.082
8th pick 0.004
I’ll be rooting for our teams to finish 1-2. I watched all of your games coming down the stretch and was thrilled to see Livingston make his comeback.
Neither of our teams tanked and I’m happy about that (well, maybe Flip tried in the 4th quarter). I’ll be happier if we’re rewarded.
Well, at least you guys have cap space. We’re stuck with Corey Maggette and Andris Biedrins. If we didn’t have Curry, we’d take Gil off your hands.
Good luck.
Odds Gods say we get 6 pick
Interesting that highest odds say Wiz get the 6 pick, and there is a serious drop off in this year’s draft from 5 to 6. (Wall, Turner, Favor, Johnson, Cousins . . . ). That uniquely wretched Wiz luck working against us again? Thanks GSW for the info!
"I'm not the same player as when I arrived at UK ... I believe I'm ready for the next challenge as Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans were the last two years under Coach Cal." John Wall.:
Yeah, this is right
Sadly I couldn’t figure out any shortcuts that would work right (I thought I found a way, but it was off by a few tenths of a percent here and there for some reason)…this turned into a long and boring number-crunching exercise.
Thanks for your sympathy!
I’ve always admired the Warriors because of their great fanbase. Best of luck to ya.

Wiz-GSW 1-2 sounds great
I’ve had a soft spot for the Warriors since I went to a game in Oakland over Xmas break back in 2002. Didn’t know it back then, but I was getting an early start on rooting for Gilbert, Antawn, and Boykins. Great crowd, and because the Warriors won and scored over 100 points, I got a free chalupa out of it.
66.6% chance we pick between 5-8
Yikes I think there’s a huge drop off from Wall, Turner, Cousins, and Favors to #5. If we don’t pick in the top 4 I hope we go with Jan Vesely.

Again, why can't the Wizards pick 4th?
If no one below them jumps into the top 3 slots…. and the top (I mean, bottom) 3 teams pick 1-2-3…..
then the Wizards would pick 4th…. right?
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Never mind - they're 5th... and cannot move into 4th - I get it.

Let's just bank on it now so it won't hurt as much when it happens

If you keep projecting #8
Then that’s what we’ll get, even though its the least likely outcome. From the numbers I see, we have a 55% chance of picking 1,2,3, or 5. So there’s a 55% chance that we get Wall, Turner, Cousins, Favors, or Johnson. Then there’s a 34% chance that we get to pick our favorite from the rest of the prospects. Keep thinking positive cause there’s a better chance of us getting #1 than 7 or 8.
