I will still be in transit from New York on BoltBus while this game is happening, so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to see it.  This is one time where I'm turning over recap duties to the community.  If you'd like to recap this game (you can do it your own way), send me an e-mail so I know to bump your FanPost to the front page.

Too bad, because I'm really hoping Andray Blatche makes a statement against Kevin Garnett, his idol.  Garnett's not the same player anymore, so this is a great opportunity for Dray.  Unfortunately, Boston's the best defensive team in the league, so I'm guessing the guards will have a ton of trouble getting Dray the ball.

GO WIZARDS!

Good TO by Flip.

We’re seeing better ball movement and more hustle now.

by dogshammdog on Mar 7, 2010 8:11 PM EST reply actions

I'm always surprised to see the Wizards on national TV

even before the trades. But it’s nice to be able to watch them on something other than my computer.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:13 PM EST reply actions

Only games worth showing are the Cavs ones

We always suck when we’re on national tv. This could be interesting, though – the Celtics have been mailing it in despite being absurdly talented, while we’re playing our hearts out despite having almost no real talent. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us play better than expected tonight.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

Something I've really started to like about Javale is that he actually plays with a lot of heart

Like, he really has no idea what’s going on out there sometimes and he’s kind of soft, but he is REALLY into it out there and that enthusiasm will pay off down the road.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 8:16 PM EST reply actions

That's huge for me...

…and is why I’ve got a lot of faith in his development. He just needs to develop some court sense. At times he goes up for a dunk or lay-up not realizing he’s about 8 feet away from the hoop.

by dogshammdog on Mar 7, 2010 8:17 PM EST up reply actions

I agree 100%

The reason he always looks tired is because he’s always giving it his all.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Mar 7, 2010 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

Radical idea

play Miller at the point. He can pass up all the layups he wants and Foye can spot up without worrying about anything else.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:19 PM EST reply actions

It could work

I just hate how many turnovers Miller makes. He can be ok as a point forward playing next to Foye and Young, too, I think.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

True.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:25 PM EST up reply actions

I'm also noticing that his entry passes are a little ragged.

so maybe this is a terrible idea.

I'm eagerly anticipating

the Boykins/Robinson matchup. Who’s with me?

If not his shot selection...

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:28 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, that's going to be a problem if he ever plays with more efficient scorers

Right now it’s sort of tolerable since his stepback jumper isn’t going to be that much less accurate than Boykins’ or Young’s or Singleton’s.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 8:30 PM EST up reply actions

Then again

that was a great move.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Any chance Miller has a clause in his contract...

…that awards him a $5m bonus if he keeps his FG% above 55% for the season? That would explain a lot…

by dogshammdog on Mar 7, 2010 8:29 PM EST reply actions

He has to be having one of the freakiest seasons of all time

At least from a statistical perspective – per 40s are

12.4 points 7.3 rebounds 4.5 assists with an Eddy Curry-esque turnover percentage and the highest true shooting percentage I’ve ever seen.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Still on the bus

No TV.

Heard Dray had a big block and JaVale had an awesome slam. And we’re winning?

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Mar 7, 2010 8:34 PM EST reply actions

Yep.

Celtics just went about five minutes without an FG, too. Post defense has been solid.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:35 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

In Blatche, McGee, a hopefully re-signed Singleton and Thornton, I think we’re in decent shape up front going forward. Obviously, it shouldn’t preclude us from adding anyone, but it’s not a huge priority.

It’s the backcourt that I think needs to be completely rebuilt. Hoping for Wall or Turner!

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Mar 7, 2010 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

You heard right.

Lots of hustle on display, Foye in “attack mode”, Thornton beasting on the boards, and Blatche off to a typically good start.

by dogshammdog on Mar 7, 2010 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

Foye's gotten a lot better at drawing fouls off of fakes

I don’t know if the statistics back this up, but he looks a lot better than I thought he was. I’m guessing Sam Cassell has had something to do with this.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 8:35 PM EST reply actions

Forgive me for being late on this

It’s not that I haven’t believed everyone, it’s just that I don’t get to see many Wizards games. This Andray Blatche is an absolute revelation.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 8:37 PM EST reply actions

Call me crazy...

…but Blatche is starting to remind me of a ganglier version of Karl Malone circa his MVP days. Lots of facing up his man and a very strong mid-range jumpshot.

by dogshammdog on Mar 7, 2010 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

And yet

the pbp guy decided to focus on “how great it would be” if the shot had gone in. Sigh.

Ugh

Mike Miller, keeps handling the ball and being a jackass with it. And on D he is getting burned by whoever he is supposed to be on

by CBDirty30 on Mar 7, 2010 8:47 PM EST reply actions

He is a awful passer and he will dribble out the shot clock til its nothing then dump to another player to let him jack up a terrible shot

Hahahahaha

Gotta love seeing the 5’3 guy set a screen for the 6’8 one

Nice screen by Boykins on that Miller drive...

I wouldn’t do it a lot – but it was successful that time…

thanks for keeping mcgee on the bench all season :(

by baltimorebullets80 on Mar 7, 2010 9:00 PM EST reply actions

Hopefully we'll be seeing even more of that for the next few years

I know it hasn’t worked well historically, but I like seeing those guys play next to each other. All that length and shotblocking can compensate for a lot of gambling by our perimeter guys.

I hate fake crowd noise.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

exactly

Playing good defense…. and that’s what I would rather see from him….

I’d like to see more rebounds…. but he’s blocking out, and keeping KG and Perkins from dominating inside. They only have one offensive rebound between them….

Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......

by Rook6980 on Mar 7, 2010 9:15 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

I don’t mind the lack of rebounding if his play is allowing other guys (like Thornton) to get boards. Now if the Celtics start taking over on the boards…

Don’t know if you want to see it that bad, though.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

Wizards with 6 blocks at the half....

3 by McGee, 1 for Blatche and 2 for Singleton…

The 3 by McGee of the spectacular kind (blocking KG at the rim and blocking a Pierce dunk attempt)….

by Rook6980 on Mar 7, 2010 9:17 PM EST reply actions

But you know what - I like the shots he changed even better

He changed about 4 shots…. on Boston drives to the hoop…

Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......

by Rook6980 on Mar 7, 2010 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

Horrible shot that somehow hit nothing but net

We really should be down by 10 right now, not up by 6

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 9:30 PM EST reply actions

And again...

Thornton must have made a deal with the devil

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

That looked like a clean charge

That’s actually the part of Blatche’s game that’s improved the most this year. He went from one of the most foul-prone guys in the league who gambled for blocks constantly to someone who’s actually decent at taking charges around the rim.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 9:32 PM EST reply actions

That was a fantastic spin move by McGee

against Ray Allen, sure, but it’s nice to see him developing some moves.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 9:34 PM EST reply actions

In case we didn't need a reminder that Javale needs to get stronger

Dwight Howard not only finished that same dunk with that same foul, but he was hit hard by Pau Gasol instead of a 6’4 guy who’s made a living by running and running and running around screens.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 9:38 PM EST reply actions

McGee caused that travel by KG

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 9:41 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, that was a complete waste of a possession.

The day he starts playing outside of the offense is the day he goes back to being just another big with a jump shot.

You can tell we have a young team

They’re playing much harder for a nationally televised game.

Also, I really like this female commentator whoever she is.

That was a decent shot

It just didn’t go in. I’ve seen him hit that shot plenty of times this year.

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah - but like Buck said... he's not shooting well lately

He’s only 13-36 over his last 3 games (33%)

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 10:05 PM EST reply actions

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Mar 8, 2010 2:36 AM EST up reply actions

Terrible turnover.

I don’t think any of the Wizards knew what they were going to do with the ball but kept jumping to pass. They need to cut that out.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 10:07 PM EST reply actions

What kind of shot was that?

Javale has some of the weirdest looking shots I’ve ever seen. Is it really that hard to just shoot a hook shot?

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 7, 2010 10:08 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

The Bucks are always a horrible match up, though. Villanueva always torched AJ, then Warrick came over and did the same. It’s funny that now that we can guard their power forwards, they run more stuff through Bogut, who looks like Shaq next to Javale.

Wow. Check out that replay.

KG two hands on Blatche. Smack smack.

So did I, I also wanted Blatche to drive instead of a fade away.

There’s really no such thing at this point

Just remember everyone...

This is what we WANT….

Play hard… compete…. lose (and get more ping pong balls)

Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......

by Rook6980 on Mar 7, 2010 10:45 PM EST reply actions

no

i do not give a shit about ping pong balls. that sucked. they melted down, recovered, then got grabbed, hacked and smacked into a loss. they need to win some of these games as part of rebuilding the team. and once it was close, you knew the outcome. sucks.

agreed

screw the ping pong balls, a few losses isn’t going to get us anywhere closer to wall or turner. right now we’re like 8th worst in the standings.

by Marine4Life51 on Mar 7, 2010 10:53 PM EST up reply actions

I agree. I'd take the win

but I’m not going to drink myself into a stupor and get suicidal.

by MR on Mar 7, 2010 11:00 PM EST up reply actions

I am so annoyed with Randy Foye right now.

He didn’t miss the last few shots, but he failed to restore order when the game was slipping away.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 10:45 PM EST reply actions

Ray Allen was the difference tonight

The Wizards front line was awesome. Another perfect game: one that’s hard fought and close, but lost. NBA draft, here we come.

by satchmore on Mar 7, 2010 10:46 PM EST reply actions

Great Effort

Great game. Really like what I’m seeing from the BIG THREE of McGee, Blatche and Thornton.

by Unselds on Mar 7, 2010 10:46 PM EST reply actions

Definitly not Randy Foyes fault buddy he hit a very important shot at the end.

CLEARLY Ray Allen, Mike Miller was abysmal in getting around MOVING illegal screens by every big possible. Ray Allen won it hands down

PS There is something wrong with losing when it makes me want to drink myself to sleep after I smash my head in my wall.

by Unxpekted on Mar 7, 2010 10:47 PM EST reply actions

Can we just cut Miller and sign another NBDL'er

He’s now Deshawn Stevenson futile on offense and he got abused on screens guarding Allen today. He’s just been a bumblin fool since the trades. get rid of him.

by jdgreger on Mar 7, 2010 10:47 PM EST reply actions

Not sure how to respond

the guy is leading the league in 3 pt shooting.

Were you joking?

by MR on Mar 7, 2010 10:50 PM EST up reply actions

When he is open

I wish more players played that way.

by MR on Mar 7, 2010 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

He's leading in percentage

He’s only shot 89 threes this year. Attempts leader Aaron Brooks, meanwhile, is at 399.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Mar 7, 2010 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

He shoots about 3 per game

I wish he’d shoot more too. But he’s shooting over 50% in FG and 3s, pretty amazing numbers. 10 pts, 6 rebounds, 3.5 assists per game. Pretty good numbers.

by MR on Mar 7, 2010 10:58 PM EST up reply actions

God I hate the Celtics

And I didn’t until tonight. They might as well have been spraying champagne over each other after Allen hit that shot. It was the WIZARDS. Pricks. Know how I know you’re not winning crap this year?

by bronco6778 on Mar 7, 2010 10:56 PM EST reply actions

Impressed with the CAA tournament so far.

by purpleonblack86 on Mar 7, 2010 10:56 PM EST reply actions

mike has the skills and talent to be a go-to scorer

but he has the mentality that deshawn should have had last year.

by Marine4Life51 on Mar 7, 2010 11:00 PM EST reply actions

At least our front court..

…outplayed their front court. But we’re seriously undermanned. Ray Allen versus MM was the difference tonight.

McGee seemed to play with more confidence, and had a pretty good game despite the limited rebounds.

Can’t complain about this one.

wizards played well in front of a national tv audience...

… a lot of people got to see AB play as a starter for the first time…. and got to see a future All Star really dominate an aging All-star

by CVC on Mar 7, 2010 11:15 PM EST reply actions

Blatche v. KG

23 and 9 from AB compared to 8 and 10 from KG

Does anyone doubt AB is the real deal?

I said a week ago that the only trade I’d consider for AB is Chris Bosh. I’m now going to take that back.

by CVC on Mar 8, 2010 12:00 AM EST reply actions

I'd still take that trade

Blatche played great tonight, until the final minutes. He chucked at least 2 long-range, poorly conceived shots, and missed a couple more on last second, desperation heaves. Worse, he let KG fluster him. From the past several games, we’ve seen that Blatche doesn’t respond well to double-teams. Tonight, he didn’t respond well to KG grabbing him and forcing him out of his choice spots. He has to find ways to continue being effective in these situations. His teammates and his coach also need to find ways to help him be effective, whether it be as a shooter, or just to draw the attention of defenders.

by satchmore on Mar 8, 2010 12:45 AM EST up reply actions

And that's the best...

…lesson he’s got in 5 years here. Let’s see how fast he learns it.

3 good points ive seen here

Mike Miller is not a shoot under the contest, but merely shoots when completely or semi-open.

SOOOO Set screens for him, better screens. Just like Old Papa Garnett does when blocking Mike so Ray can gain confidence and hit his completely open shots.

If we double teamed Allen, well we would have won.

I even missed the 2:30am replay of tonights game. Reading through the game thread is fun though.

you know what?

I hope CLE, ORL , and ATL were watching, because we exposed the celtics tonight that game was BS, but i’m so happy that we played so tough though….

Dagger

What a deflating loss. Good for those who like ping pong balls. Another tough game to watch, for different reasons.

Interesting note

miller SF, young SF

miller ineffectuve in stopping Allen from screen

Miller ineffectuve in scoring

really the difference there.

If u inserted Nick Young maybe you get better defense and some offense, boom, you win the game!

by Unxpekted on Mar 8, 2010 9:41 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Or

Maybe Nick goes 3-17 and runs into the same picks Mike did. With the way they were already throwing away that game, Nick Young is really the last guy on the team I’d want on the floor. Regardless, we’re going to see a lot of games like this one and probably at least a few like the Bucks games. It’s just the team that we have right now. Hopefully they learn from it. Watching the froncourt for the first 43 minutes was truly nice, though.

by imperialme on Mar 8, 2010 9:46 AM EST up reply actions

I do think Miller was really bad last night

I’m not sure Nick was the answer, but Miller played really bad.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Mar 8, 2010 10:03 AM EST up reply actions

Miller played bad dude. You say this team has to learn? Well just saying were going to see alot of games like this is not learning.

I dont want to learn because I understand why we lose. Last night it was clearly Millers lack of offense and ability to move the ball (trapped and turnovers) no offensive rhythm and inability to guard or avoid picks allowing Allen open 3’s to tie and then win the game.

If Nick Young nearly avoided one of those screens and or hit an offense shot in our disarray of the final minutes which Young usually does (either nails a three ball or penetrates) we win the game.

by Unxpekted on Mar 8, 2010 11:09 AM EST reply actions

I'm not saying that Mike was any good

In fact, I would have loved to us move him at the dealine (wouldn’t Boston rather have him than Finley?). I’ve just pretty much given up on Nick. The problem with doubling Ray is he runs around multiple screens all night long so it’s not as easy as it seems.
