Is there anyone who agrees with me that, if the Paul Allen does not want Kevin Pritchard, we have to do ANYTHING within Ted Leonsis' power to get him?

Fourth.

We're from the city with the highest murder rate in the country. Why WOULDN'T they call us the Bullets?

I like Kevin Pritchard

But, honestly, his resume is not THAT impressive.

First off, Rudy Fernandez and Nicolas Batum were acquired with Paul Allen’s money. The Blazers paid $3 Million to buy the Suns’ pick, and they bought the Grizzlies 2nd round pick and then traded up to draft Nicolas Batum. I love Fernandez and Batum, they are great (under-utilized) young players, and I give him credit for using the picks wisely, but, its a lot easier to hit home runs when your owner is willing to give you lots of attempts.

Also, Pritchard’s decision to NOT use Raef LaFrentz’ expiring contract last season was idiotic. They were the #3 seed out West, with Steve Blake was their starting point guard! Don’t you think they could have used the RLEC to maybe improve their chances come playoff time? Sure enough, the playoffs came, and the Blazers couldn’t score, and got sent packing in 6 games.

The LMA extension was completely unnecessary. LMA does not rebound, post up, get to the free throw line, or D-up down low. Yet, Pritchard felt the need to extend him for $65 million.

Finally, I know this has been debated to death, but the decision to take Greg Oden over Kevin Durant was just as inexcusable then as it looks now. (In my opinion).

You forgot Brandon Roy

Which he put himself in position to acquire by dealing Telfair, then dealing Foye. He created his own luck there.

Frankly, the Aldridge extension is fine by me. At what price did you expect to get a young, talented big like him?

As for his owner giving him plenty of attempts – yes, but when has he whiffed?

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I agree with Mike here

While Ted is rolling in cash like Paul Allen, the buying of draft picks from cash-strapped owners is a tool I can definitely see him utilizing. And, when Pritchard has been given that free reign, he has been right on talent many more times than not. You can’t say that about Ernie.

I looks like the discussion that I started could be moot anyway: looks like Allen has given Pritch the dreaded “vote of confidence”.

Are there any other GM thoughts out there for replacements for Ernie? (As you can see, I have already given up on the architect of this current mess).

Remember Sam Bowie over MJ?

They always pick the big guy.

Never said it did

Just saying, in that spot, it’s tough to blame Pritch.

(As for every GM passing on Blair last year – that’s different because EG had nothing to lose by picking him).

You also have to throw Andre Miller in there

Maybe he weaseled his way into him when Turkoglu signed, but it’s a choice that’s really paying off right now.

the Miller signing is great for this year

but it has also killed Bayless’ and Fernandez’ sophomore seasons? Maybe some of that you can blame on Nate McMillan, but, I personally love Bayless and Rudy, and they are playing 15 minutes a game

But yeah, I get your point. KP over Ernie any day of the week.

I don't agree with that

They moved Blake out, freeing up time for Bayless and Rudy.

Would you keep EG though?

Ernie tried to sign Gilbert, coming off two knee surgeries, to a contract so large that GA did us a “favor” by signing “for less”. And, that was with no true competition for his services. I know some will blame that situation on Mr. Pollin, and I don’t want to do revisionist history here (everyone felt we could not Gil leave here), but that contract was the worst in the NBA the day he offered it.

I would take Pritch’s knack for stock-piling lots of young talent that gives your team options now and in the future.

To Be Fair

Since you don’t want to do revisionist history, EG did have competition for Gil’s services – Golden State, who offered Gil a max contract. It was very possible that EG would have played hardball with Gil to get him to resign for less, but once the Warriors lost Baron Davis, all bets were off the table.

You Do Probably Have a Point There

At the time, I was doubtful that the GS rumored offer was true. But, Ernie didn’t have the luxury of calling the bluff. If it was true, the lure for Gil to return to California might have been strong (especially if we didn’t show him enough “love” with a max contract offer). It just sucks. I don’t know why EG even wants this job, given that this franchise seems to never catch a break.

saying i'm not psyched about pritchard

doesn’t mean i want to keep eg. i think eg should go at this point.
