I am glad to hear that because..

I think he may be a keeper. I would like to see a lot more of him in the upcoming games.

As an Alabama fan

I followed him in college, and he could score at will. We may have found us a diamond in the rough. There’s no harm in trotting him out there and seeing what he has to offer to close out the season.

I'm amazed

this is his first stint in the NBA. I think we can lose Nick Young now.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Yeah

I gave up on Nick Young last year. If it hasn’t clicked by now, it probably wont

I love this guy

Reminds me a bit of Gerald Wallace, albeit as a shooting guard.

Does anyone know what the knock on him is? Low basketball iq? Poor jumpshot? A past injury?

by pantslessyoda1 on Mar 18, 2010 8:39 PM EDT reply actions

He definitely needed to work on his outside game

Other than that? I don’t know. The Ridiculous Upside guys should have a better take on it.

by imperialme on Mar 19, 2010 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, but

he has at least shown a decent outside shot. Made a few 3 pointers at least. I just like that he’s not afraid of getting blocked, he’ll go to the hole regardless of who’s there. Plus he rebounds. Whatever we can do to push Boykins further down the bench I am happy with.

by CJHutch on Mar 19, 2010 1:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Well

According to DraftExpress

He can’t shoot off the dribble.. and had terrible field goal efficiency numbers in college (because he was used as the go-to guy in Alabama’s Offense, and had to create off the dribble). He lacks consistent 3-point range. Not a great FT shooter.

Apparently he was “on the second round bubble” in the 2009 Draft….

Let’s also remember that his stats in the D-League (49.6% shooting, etc…) and his stats with the Wizards (60.9% shooting) have come with a very limited number of games – he may come back down to his more normal shooting percentages of 41-44% that he showed in 4 years at Alabama.

Rook

Can we get some scoop on the big guy from Saint Mary’s?

I think his name is Omar Samham or something like that?

He torched Richmond. Is he a projected 2nd rounder?

Is he a projected 2nd rounder?

If he keeps playing like he did against Richmond he will be…. Right now, he’s not listed on most Mock drafts… but a very good tournament, along with good workouts could net him a 2nd round look…..

He came to St. Marys as a 270 pound marshmallow – and is leaving as a much improved player – with a much improved body… He’s much stronger and has more stamina than when he arrived; attesting to his work ethic. He’s still not the most athletic big – but he can score around the basket – has some nice post moves – holds position well – and can score with either hand. His game is limited to the low post out to about 6-8 feet, however; as he doesn’t have much of a mid-range game at all.

He’s a very good rebounder, grabbing an impressive 13.6 per 40 minutes (pace adjusted)… He gets to the FT line at a good rate (7 per game) and he’s a decent Free Throw shooter (73%)…

If he makes it to the NBA, his biggest problem will be on the defensive end – defending the pick-and-roll (he’s not the quickest guy, to be sure)…. or defending quicker players, or Centers with a perimeter game (of which there seem to be more and more in the NBA)….

He wouldn’t be a terrible late 2nd round pick for someone looking for a back-up Center that can rebound a bit and score in the paint.

obviously nobody's

expecting him to be a cornerstone of the team. Even without any of those stats it’s easy to see how raw the kid is. Still though, it’s nice to see some young, fresh legs on the team, not to mention a guy who wants to work to prove himself.

by CJHutch on Mar 19, 2010 9:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

I’ve seen everything you’ve seen. A kid that has very good athleticism, can jump, and run the floor. He’s pretty quick…. and so far, for the Wizards, he’s shot much better than I expected (60%)….

I didn’t mean to throw a bucket of cold water on the guy… because he seems like he’s got some tools…. and could be a good addition.

I'm kind of mixed about him

He’s looked great as an all-around hellraiser on the floor, just coming out and playing with energy, and I’d love to have him as a backup shooting guard. At the same time, most good backup perimeter guys are solid if not particularly energetic guys who’s offensive game is pretty much limited to catching and shooting.

We shall see what happens over the next few weeks....

but if Gee proves to be a keeper, what does it say about the scouting ability of NBA teams? What is present now in his game that was not present last summer? The numbers he is putting up, even if they are being attained for an overmatched team, really give one pause… rotation player scoring and rebounding, not end of the bench filler stuff.

by khrabb on Mar 19, 2010 4:43 AM EDT reply actions

just get it over with and give this guy the rest of the year

1) we need to fill out the roster 2) he actually plays defense 3) he can jump out of the gym 4) he can occasionally step out and hit the three 5) he’s a rookie and has already shown more grit and determination than anyone on the team except maybe james singleton

A Keeper!

Gee’s a keeper. I like his size and toughness. He’s got the eye of the tiger. The only
question is to what extent he is relied on in the future. How far he moves up in the rota-
tion. Gotta give it to Wizards. They are being creative at finding talented, and inexpensive
players. Hope some of them pan out.
