Atlanta Hawks vs. Washington Wizards: Regular Season Game 62 Open Thread
Atlanta Hawks at Washington Wizards, Mar 11, 2010 7:00 PM EST
My charger broke earlier today, so I got to get this thing up quick before my battery gives way. I'd also tell you something interesting about Flip's pre-game media session, but it got interrupted by some sales rep practicing her season ticket renewal pitch on the PA.
About all I can tell you is this: Flip hinted Earl Boykins might not play much because he's saving him during this grueling five-games-in-six-days stretch. He also said Shaun Livingston will likely play backup point guard and play anywhere from 18-26 minutes a game.
Otherwise, all I got are some pictures below the jump. Enjoy.
UPDATE: Oh, and apparently Gilbert Arenas has submitted paperwork to switch his number to six. Why? I don't know.
GO WIZARDS!

No more agent zero?!?!?
This can’t be true!! This is like HUGE news!! What does six mean, except Lebron is doing the same switch? Maybe his 6 healthy years in the league?!? This is depressing news if you ask me.
Michael Lee's Tweet..
No, this is not out of deference to Robert Parish. Nor is he trying to be like LeBron James. Arenas was born and suspended on Jan. 6.

Wizards starting a stretch of incredibly tough games...
3 games in 3 days, 5 games in the next 6 days, 11 games in the next 15 days.
For the rest of March, they have 13 games…. 11 are against winning teams (and the 2 games against losing teams – Detroit and Indiana – are on the road)
9 games on the road… with a real tough West Coast road trip thrown in there (Portland, Lakers, Denver and Utah).
Whew – they’ll be lucky to win 2 games during that stretch… putting them firmly in the high Lottery…
THANKS NBA SCHEDULE-MAKERS

hooray- Livingston is getting Boykins minutes at PG

Thats getting real annoying now. He’s been doing it since that Obama game last year vs. Chicago.

You guys don't like the salute?
Come on! He’s paying homage to the basketball gods who gave him that dunk!
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
im liking Livingston a lot
Its cool having a 6’7" point guard
by CVC on Mar 11, 2010 7:44 PM EST via mobile reply actions
young is playing pretty well...
.. Except on defense. When you’re here at the game, you can see what a poor defender he is. He gets lost, and doesn’t fight hard over screens

Blatche still struggling with Atlanta's double teams
They have weirder double-team rotations that most teams, but still.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Miller just did a left-handed jump pass
It looked … interesting.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Some notes for tonight.
Miller has slumped into Deshawn Pt 2. he kinda sucks.
Blatche is the only offensive option.
Thorton is tired.
Livingston handing out good passes that players cant handle.
Please keep Boykins out it equals no Boykin defecits.
Nick Young needs to get his offense going.
But someone has to stick to Crawford
Can’t they just put someone on Crawford at the 3-point line – tell them DON’T HELP… STAY ON CRAWFORD….
I’d rather he drive and put up those ugly floaters, than shoot open 3-pointers all night….

Young and Livingston play well together
Livingston is getting Nick the ball in his favorite spots

combo guards play better with other combo guards
NY and Livingston are more traditional SG and PG, respectively.
From 0 to 6
Because the 6th is his birthday and it’s also the day the hammer came down.
Hey it worked for 7 Day Dray!
stop fouling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

And why would Bosh choose Washington
over Toronto (who can give him a 6-year Max deal)
or
Miami , where he can play with D-Wade (and get a 5-year max deal with no State taxes)
or
Dallas, where he can go play with Nowitzki (and go home – he was raised in Texas, and still has a home there)
Why would he want to come to Washington?
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Because he doesn't have to read your posts and can write whatever he wants!!!
I personally want Lebron, Dwade, Dwight Howard, Durant, Kobe and Arenas to all be here next year but that’s just me.
because arenas is taking his number?

If Miller isn't on the team, it doesn't matter
Lee told me the same thing happened when Kobe switched his number. Jim Jackson was #24 on the 05/06 team.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Right but wouldnt he still need permission since theres still a possibility that Miller is resigned?
I was thinking about that...
Maybe if Miller stays around he goes back to 33, which he couldn’t get at first because Haywood was here…

all irrational hatred team?
he fits the mold of shot jacker with no conscience (Q-rich, harrington etc.)

Unfortunately - he may be a shot jacker
but he’s an effective shot jacker – especially against Washington

Haven't really been able to catch most of the game
But I did see that Gee got some run. Any impressions?
yea...maybe
Still an iffy call though
by SkinsWizStangs on Mar 11, 2010 9:17 PM EST up reply actions
but
Dwight Howard wouldn’t have been called….
Nor would Shaq, or Chris Bosh
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
I don't know about that.
Dwight gets a lot of iffy calls. It seems like they really favor the offensive player in the post.
In the long run, I'm happy he didn't leave his feet
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
I still have faith!!
……then again, I also hope the Wizards can win 20 games in a row and make the playoffs lol. Blind optimism baby!!!

there's a difference between being overwhelmed by your opponent
and not being able to get in a good offensive rhythm because of questionable calls, right?
Foye is screwing up big time-- Flip just yelled at him
by CVC on Mar 11, 2010 9:19 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I don't understand why we're still playing him at PG.
The experiment is over. Minny fans told us what we were getting…
they need a PG in the lineup
Three SGs means everyone’s trying to score and no one’s trying to set up the offense.
It's not that he's trying to score.
He’s trying to distribute it, he just really doesn’t have the talent or instincts for it.
I think its not Foyes part I think its Miller hes way to sloppy and indescisive. He refuses to shoot whens he open but then shoots when hes defended
sort of like arenas problem with butler

16 of those are on dunks. Only two are on jumpers.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
same thing - 8 dunks
16 points

Maybe add Josh Howard for a reasonable contract
Draft Evan Turner
Arenas
Turner
Howard
Blatche
McGee
Singleton
Thornton
Young
Not a bad nucleus
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
still want a better PG
and have arenas off the ball a little more. and not sure you can count on howard for much at this point

I know it's been beaten to death in the other thread
but I’ve watched every OSU game the last three years and Evan Turner would be a wonderful addition to this team. I can’t go as far as to say I’d rather have him than John Wall but he’d be a great consolation prize.
cant blame AB for this loss... he has 30 big time points
by CVC on Mar 11, 2010 9:24 PM EST via mobile reply actions
yes
but his TO rate is climbing as he gets more defensive attention

He'll learn how to deal with it..
When has he ever been the focal point of an offense and faced double teams before?
well, a players TO doesnt decline when he's doubled hard
by CVC on Mar 11, 2010 9:28 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
no, for sure.
he’ll figure it out. but it has been hurting them. but i still agree – he’s playing his ass off.
a lot of his TO’s are due to too much dribbling instead of bad passing

But as he's still unused to being doubled...
as he deals with it more often, he’ll cut down on those turn overs…. He’ll learn to make quicker moves, before the double comes… or pass out to an open team mate
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Gee
If I had left with 6 minutes to go, and the Wizards down by 7 – since the game was over and everything…. I would have missed JaVale’s career high….
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Blatche
We need a better shot then that one. I guess you live by the fading jumper, you die by it. I would have loved to see a better post move!
Got a question
Does anyone know how far we are under the cap? And How much money we will have to offer in the off season? Maybe a max deal?
We'll be around 33 million next year?
If the cap is set at 58 mil (wow) or whatever they’re expecting that should be enough for 1 max deal.
no max deals!
no this summer at least. build and take 1 more year to sort out who can do what. that’s what i would like to see, at least.

exactly
plus, with the almost inevitable lock out in 2011, blowing all our cap room next year seems like a hugely bad idea
Is there a threat of lockout for 2011?
Wow. Between that and the NFL, I might kill myself winter ’11
Who would we sign that would make sense?
Dwade, Lebron, Bosh. Other than that, there’s no point. Johnson or Amar’e isn’t going to make us much better so lets save the cap space and rent it out for picks as Mike suggested
xactly right
Wade, Lebron and Bosh are not coming here…. so save the cap space for 2011 when there will be much less competition for guys like Carmello Anthony (player option) and Kevin Durant (restricted Free Agent)..
Or just use the space to pick up good role players like Mbah a Moute, Shane Battier or Glen Davis
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Miller glad handing everyone on the Atlanta bench, and all the Coaches
perhaps auditioning for a job next year?
