Around SBN: Odds On Peyton Manning's Next Home Includes Three Teams

The Wiz and Mavs, meanwhile, have discussed a deal that would swap Josh Howard and one other player (such as James Singleton or Quinton Ross) for Butler and DeShawn Stevenson. But Dallas has little interest in taking back Stevenson and is still weighing whether Butler can help pull the All-Star Weekend hosts out of a spiral that has been openly addressed this week (see Box 4) by Mark Cuban.

Marc Stein. I guess we cut salary, so it's not that bad, but man, that's disappointing. Can't we at least also give them Haywood and take back Beaubois and another contract?

In other words

Why not Butler/Haywood/Stevenson for Howard/Beaubois/Gooden?

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I like him enough to take back Matt Carroll instead of Gooden, personally

Dallas really likes him though, even though he never plays and their core is older.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Whoa ... really?

You like him enough to sign up for essentially 3 more years of Deshawn Stevenson part deux?

I don’t.

It we made that offer though Dallas should probably take it.

err the Gooden one not the Carroll one

If we made the Carroll one they would be insane not to take it.

Carroll at least can make shots

I dunno though, I might have gotten carried away there. It’s still a net money-saver.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I would take back Carroll for Beorbois

and one of these days I will learn how to spell his name correctly.

Why on earth would we just take back Josh Howard for Caron Butler? Just to not pay $10 million next year? Have the Wizards become the Clippers?

Beaubois in French...

Prettywoods… I like him too and Singleton can play some, he would bring more consistent effort to the backup four than we have seen from Blatche… Hmm how about Butler and Blatche for Josh Howard, James Singleton, Beaubois and a #1 picK?

Question

If we do this trade, then choose not to exercise the team option for Howard’s 2010-2011 season at $11.8M, do we still retain his Bird rights? If yes, and if all the cap space around the league dries up before anyone can offer Howard a big money deal, maybe we could re-sign him to something like $7M/yr (just like the Knicks did with David Lee this past summer).

Make it happen

If we move DeShawn, Caron and Antawn, I’d do back flips. And I’d be fine if Hickson was the only prospect we get back because we shed $27 million off of next year’s payroll.

I don't even care about dumping Stevensons contract

It’s only 4M and it expires after next season. I’m not trying to get in FA market this winter unless there is a steal to be had anyways. I’d rather keep Stevenson if we have a shot at beaubois.

trade them all

Really, who cares? we are starting over anyways. We are going to suck for 2-5 years. Nobody is going to give us a foundation piece, the best we can get is cap space. Maybe we get lucky and land a nice player, but most likely we will not. Just try to get draft picks. We have to start over, cut everyone and build a whole new team. This team has been through too much, it will never work. Just ship them out and start over. Do any trade that gets stevenson off the books.

I think positioning ourselves for summer of 2011 should be the key

Look around the league at large (bad) contracts coming off the books in 2011: Eddy Curry, Jared Jeffries, Andrei Kirilenko, Samuel Dalembert, Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, TJ Ford, Marko Jaric, Kenyon Martin.

We should be targeting those contracts PLUS those teams’ prospects/picks. Getting Josh Howard and nothing else would be idiotic.

by John Park Williams on Feb 5, 2010 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

That sounds smart, but ....

I don’t think that most of those teams are willing to take on longer contracts in exchange for their shorter ones. Which one of those teams wants Antawn?

by Manimal Smith on Feb 5, 2010 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

yeah Antawn doesn't really fit into that equation

If nothing better comes along, then Jamison for Ilgaukus+Hickson/pick would work for me.

by John Park Williams on Feb 5, 2010 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

If we are lucky enough to get Hickson

We should be overjoyed. I’m worried we will have to settle.
