My facebook status last night.....I can see into the future

“My favorite players are cursed. What appears to be a left knee sprain for JHO is going to end up being a career ending ACL tear. I guarantee it.”

More time for the young guns.

Well I will be surprised if we keep winning after this….

Flip's got his duct tape out

Saunders is, if anything, more comfortable patching together a makeshift lineup than he is working with established stars. He used to talk about having players sign on his shoulders before they went into a practice, and then playing them that night in his old CBA days. The guy can do a team up with baling wire.

… I just can’t believe how much this year has sucked for Washington fans. It surpasses understanding. Blazers fans along about when Oden went down again had this same feeling…. Really every team feels cursed sometimes, but what the heck? What a year. Saunders has lines under his eyes that go down his neck by this point.

we played 3 quarters without him…

That's too bad

Besides, Thornton, I guess we’ll get to see more minutes of Singleton as well. At least we’ll get a good idea whether we’ll want to keep any of these young guys around…

I feel for Howard

Aside from all the other suckitude of this for him, it’s a contract year and this was redemption time.

yeah it seems pretty cruel

So who's next?

I mean, the logical choice would be Dray……

Do you think the curse ends whne Ted finally buys the team?

by imperialme on Feb 23, 2010 12:42 PM EST reply actions

Horrible

GodWuzaWiz who attended the game with me is a doctor by training and tore his ACL three times. When Howard went down he said, “Shit, that’s an ACL, I’ve been in the same position.”

For once I wish he wasn’t such a good doctor.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

I wish I had been wrong.

I wish JHo the best. It’s a long road back, but it is possible.

When opposing players go to the line,

do Wizards fans attempt to intimidate them with their thousand-yards stare?

Two messages for Josh Howard

1. Get a second opinion, and get the surgery done by someone other than Wizards doctors.
2. Thanks for your good attitude during your short stay here in D.C.

Ya gotta feel for the guy

He was saying and doing all the right things. He might have even played himself into that option. Sucks.

The basketball gods

realized we were getting a little too excited about our new team and brought us back to earth. Nothing new for a Wiz fan here.

by ronoD nagrO on Feb 23, 2010 12:48 PM EST via mobile reply actions

the basketball gods aren't fair.

They only way the basketball gods can make this right with me is to take LeBron out. I mean, his ACL.

My swag was phenomenal.

by se7en on Feb 23, 2010 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

You can't wish that on another human being, even one as bad as LBJ.

besides, him always getting close and never getting a ring would be much sweeter.

by MR on Feb 23, 2010 1:08 PM EST up reply actions

Well i dont know it is really a curse…. I mean I blame eddie jordan for Gil injury because he didnt start him and he came of the bench and with in 2 minutes he gets hurt.

Nevermind I dont have an argument we are cursed…..damn…..

by MurlandTerps on Feb 23, 2010 12:50 PM EST reply actions

I mean even without howard they still out rebounded the bulls and won…

by MurlandTerps on Feb 23, 2010 12:58 PM EST up reply actions

Thank you for your hard play. I am sad to see the franchise bug hit you. May your career rest in peace and my blessings go out to you to get healthy mentally and physically.

by Unxpekted on Feb 23, 2010 12:58 PM EST reply actions

i'm more shellshocked

about ledellforlife’s masterful use of the word ‘strident’ in the other thread.

i said previously that i wasn’t sure howard could stay healthy here, but still, this really sucks, both for him and the franchise.

i still wouldn’t rule out the wiz picking up his option. we might have no good alternatives.

by DarrellWalkerFan on Feb 23, 2010 1:22 PM EST reply actions

Or possibly

poleaxed? In the short term, this blows. In the long term, this may be a mixed blessing as the Wizards probably won’t gamble on another fragile body.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

by Sean Fagan on Feb 23, 2010 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

No, you're right

I rather he just went down for two weeks with a bone bruise. But the Wizards haven’t had the best track record with using common sense with injured players.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

by Sean Fagan on Feb 23, 2010 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

flummoxed and poleaxed

good words.

yeah, picking up his option is probably dumb, but my thought all along has been that if we decline his option, he likely leaves, on principle alone.

i also wonder, in the bizarre world of nba trade machines, if having an one-year deal for $12 million could be an asset in terms of pulling off trades.

but i admit i’m almost certainly wrong on this one.

by DarrellWalkerFan on Feb 23, 2010 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

Hey, can't let that 800 on the SAT verbal

Or not. I was just feeling loquacious.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

by Sean Fagan on Feb 23, 2010 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

Wow, I feel terrible for Josh

…. pretty unfair time for this to happen to him. On the bright side, he has already made alot of money and so its not quite as tragic as the Leon Powe situation.

I hope he doesn’t get too down about this bad luck and is able to bounce back with whatever team ends up signing him.

by Manimal Smith on Feb 23, 2010 1:30 PM EST reply actions

I missed his ability to smash beer bottle and splash it on the crowd. :(

No seriously he was playing hard as well, I wish Miller never made that pass. :(

Please injury Gods let this be the last. In the name of God, please let this be thy last injury to thy Washington Wizards. The curse has ended in the name of God. Amen.

by Unxpekted on Feb 23, 2010 1:32 PM EST reply actions

Not again

This annoys me, b/c when we pick up the team option on him, ppl will call us stupid again for signing a guy with knee problems

by CBDirty30 on Feb 23, 2010 1:33 PM EST reply actions

No fooling with an ACL or an MCL…ever had one?…it sux
takes a while to come back from, plus the mental aspect of feeling comfortable making cuts and quick moves..Damn .

Question...

It is pretty obvious that no one (not even the unfortunate Josh Howard) expects the Wizzies to exercise the $11 million team option on him next season. But once they renounce him, are they free to compete for his services at a lower price along with everyone else? And if so, should the team do that?

by khrabb on Feb 23, 2010 1:46 PM EST reply actions

I expect him to look for a 1 year contract next year to prove himself worthy of a long term deal later. Could be with the Wiz. No way he gets anywhere near $11mil.

by MR on Feb 23, 2010 1:52 PM EST up reply actions

He probably wouldn't be healthy to start the season

So he may not get a contract until he proves that he’s healthy again.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 23, 2010 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

Bird Rights aren't really relevant are they?

Its not like we are planning to go over the cap again next season.

by Manimal Smith on Feb 23, 2010 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

Probably not

Theoretically, I suppose, if we signed Boozer and another second tier guy this summer we’d want to use them.

by RamV on Feb 23, 2010 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

They'd be relevant if he wanted a long-term contract

But he probably wasn’t getting that anyway, so it’s no big deal.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Feb 23, 2010 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

i think given his injury, may be a good chance he'll return

I was at the game last night and was wondering why he didn’t return after falling to the floor. Very unfortunate to have happen when you have to guaranteed job after this season. I think if we can get past that $11 mil option, we may see him in a Wizards jersey again next year. I mean, who else is going to want to pay a guy coming off a torn ACL??

by TheRealBigMike on Feb 23, 2010 1:59 PM EST reply actions

Thanks for the feedback

I would like to see him stay around for the right deal.

by khrabb on Feb 23, 2010 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

Okay Prada

I will agree with you now that it’s probably not the best interest of your team to keep Josh next year.

by JayKim41 on Feb 23, 2010 2:12 PM EST reply actions

He is a beast though. the only thing that can make me feel better after this is the return of Arenas.

Question!

If we make playoffs somehow, will Stern amend or allow for amendment of Arenas to return for playoffs? Is it possible?

by Unxpekted on Feb 23, 2010 2:15 PM EST reply actions

If this team made the playoffs...which is purely a fantasy etc etc...

if I were the coach I’d leave Arenas off the roster in any case.

If your team of ragtag stragglers played like .800 basketball for a couple of months, why disrupt the chemistry?

by MR on Feb 23, 2010 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

Scott over at RU

is hearing that the Wizards will call up Mike Harris.

Harris is really, really good. He’s leading the league in scoring and averaging about 10 rebounds a game. He started out his career as an undersized PF but he’s been working on adding range. With him called-up I’d guess that Miller will move back over to SG.

Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.

by Jon L on Feb 23, 2010 2:28 PM EST reply actions

Sorry guys

and sorry to Josh too, but I couldn’t help but laugh when I heard this. Is it really surprising to anyone? I mean, whether you saw the injury occur or not, it’s just par for the course around here. You know what they say

“If the Wiz didn’t have bad luck……”

Anyway, looks like Nick Young will get a little more playing time. And if he doesn’t, then send him on the first bus out this summer. As for Howard, has there ever been a shorter Wizards career?

by CJHutch on Feb 23, 2010 2:45 PM EST reply actions

Mark Price?

Rex Chapman?

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

by Sean Fagan on Feb 23, 2010 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

Definitely not

Rex. He was here like 2 or 3 years. Price is a good one, but I think he played more than 4 games.

by CJHutch on Feb 23, 2010 2:52 PM EST up reply actions

I thought

Rex went down in his third game with the Wizards after attempting to to split two defenders? He then player for a couple more years, but I definitely remember him crumpling early in his first season.

Just for the record

I had that last year. Played through it. Not that big a deal, although for me it was just games once or twice a week.

by MR on Feb 23, 2010 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

I for one

am not looking forward to more Nick Young.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 23, 2010 3:32 PM EST up reply actions

Hey Palace

I’ve been playing this game the last few times out. You count the number of times NY touches the ball and the number of times he shoots it. I mean ALL touches in game play. I figure he shoots it (or turns it over trying to shoot) just a bit over half of the time. I’ve never really looked at this “stat” before, but I suspect that 50% shooting-per-ball-touch is really really high.

This helps pass the time.

by MR on Feb 23, 2010 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

another game i've been playing since last season

for every game javale mcgee gets a block, count his goaltends. he seems to average a goaltending call a game

shoot. he seems like he'll be good but

i was hoping we’d get Reggie Williams. he used to tear it up and VMI and he is still tearing it up in the dleague. The guy is a proven scorer. Someone who needs some scoring should give the kid a chance.

by tw10 on Feb 23, 2010 3:50 PM EST reply actions

Crap

Hope he comes back next year. Obviously if he does, it wont be at $11 mil

by qthaballa on Feb 23, 2010 5:34 PM EST reply actions

I think its more of the curse of the $111 million contract

but regardless we still are pretty deep and thornton gets a chance to shine, and we will be able have a better shot at resigning howard on the cheap this offseason instead of seeing him leave.

I'm not booing Stephon Heyer, he's trying hard. I'm booing the fact that Stephon Heyer plays for us.
