NBADraft.net RIPS the Wizards trades
"It’s dumb GMs like Ernie who pay absurd amounts of money to players who haven’t proven anything, and in the end, it’s their fans who have pay the price. The Wizards are a joke right now. That was the worst series of transactions I have ever seen. You are awarded no points, Mr. Grunfeld and my God have mercy on your soul."
http://www.nbadraft.net/node/18420 ouch...that was the harshest part, but there is plenty of good stuff left

Who?
He cant be talking about Gilbert.
Yea it was a bad contract in hindsight, but he had proven himself. All-Star and led the Wiz to our first playoff series win in a while.
Now that im thinking about it I have no clue what players he is talking about. I dont think he did his research, he just wanted to rant. People who rant are usually idiots.
Orakpo!!! Russel Okung next year!
Thats actually what I thought
There are points you can nail EG on but he picked one that has absolutely nothing to do with EG.
It Needs to Be Pointed Out
It’s only been a handful of games between all of the teams involved in the Wizards’ trades, but so far Ernie is looking better than all of the others, with the possible exception of Dallas’s GM, who has greatly benefited from Haywood.

Next time, make this a FanShot please
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
It seems like he’s talking about Butler, BH, and AJ but Butler and AJ are all stars and BH should have been one but I’m sure he has one coming to him. The guy makes some points but looks really ignorant with his harshness towards EG. As much as people around here complain about EG I think we can agree that this kind of criticism wasn’t needed, especially when you don’t have your fact’s straight.

yea he did take it a bit far but
i really loath Ernie Grunfeld. all he talks about was the first half of that one season where Eddie Jordan was the all star coach.
But i think he got as much as he could for what he was selling. I think other teams knew what Washington was trying to do and weren’t willing to hand us draft picks.
At the same time Ernie got enough talent in return to make us competitive. It probably surprised him when we won a couple games.
Overall i do think Ernie is a joke of a Gm.
This guy has no clue
He’s really just writing an article to rip what is a lopsided trade, talent wise, but it really does read like a Jay Mariotti article; ill informed and based more on bluster than anything else. The only three players who you can argue have been overpayed were Stevenson, Jamison and Arenas, and two of those are debateable. Whatever, the trades are already made and we’ve been playing pretty well, so the jury is out.
The guy is clearly an idiot
1. Caron and Steve had “cumbersome multi-year deals.” Somehow Jamison did not.
2. With the first trade the “wizards did achieve their goal of clearing out all big contracts.” An expiring 6m and 4m for next year apparently trump the 2/30 and 5/90 we owe Jamison and Arenas.
3. Jamison is our “most coveted asset” and “a 2 time all-star” and one of the worst salary dumps in nba history, yet somehow at the same time a player being paid absurd amounts of money without proving anything? Which is it, buddy?
4. Wasn’t Caron a 2 time all-star as well? Isn’t a 1st rounder and Al Thornton more than expiring contracts? How can the Jamison trade be worse for us? Why is there no mention of the cap space we just opened up? Does this guy have any clue?
I agree
the biggest thing is cap flexibility b/c we can still take on bad contracts next year in exchange for picks. The mentality has got to be get as much young talent as possible and lay the foundation. Obviously we need to draft well, but to get the young talent we may have to take on more bad contracts. I think Grunfeld has been doing this long enough to know what to do and has the best interest of the long term in mind.
