Gambo is reporting the Suns continue to have conversations with Washington regarding a possible deal involving Amare Stoudemire. Key pieces that could be possibilities to wind up in Phoenix are Caron Butler and Randy Foye.
Antwan Jamison is too old for the Suns liking and was bothered by a sore left knee on Monday.

Maybe we could trade Haywood for one?
Lawson or Sessions would be nice.

PG is a huge concern for the future ...
But in the meantime, who cares?

This would have been great last summer
Now, not so much. We need young talent and draft picks, not to just rent Amare for 30 games. Unless, of course, we can sign and trade him this summer…

Not a fan
Isn’t Stoudemire just a younger, more explosive version of Jamison? He doesn’t play any defense and doesn’t make his teammates better. Though with the right combination of players, it would be a nice upgrade.
Do you guys realize it's sort of the same as the T-mac deal?
I don’t see why you guys are hating this deal because Amare has a big expiring contract, isn’t that what we want? We’re not trading for his young talent and to try and resign him, we’d be trading for him for his expiring deal. So who would you rather have for a year, Stoudemire or Tmac? We would probably also get a young player like Barbosa, Jared Dudley, or Earl Clark, and/or a draft pick. Am i misunderstanding whats going on, cuz in my mind i don’t see what’s so bad about this deal.

I agree with you.
I just thought we could get something better for Caron or Haywood (please give us Rudy Portland!!!).
Apparently not though.

yeah, but i live in phoenix...
…and Barbosa and Dudley are pretty good. Dudley would be especially good to have because he really hustles and plays great D, he’s also a player who doesn’t force shots and has good ball movement.

Jared Dudley is great and I think he'll be a really solid role player for a long time
but he’s not a star. He’s not someone you can build a team around. I’m not saying we’re going to get someone like that, but it’d be nice to find a young piece with a little more potential.

maybe but maybe not
Grunfeld doesn’t strike me much as a GM who likes to rebuild. Match Stoudemire with Arenas and the Wizards might make it to the first round of the playoffs four years in a row again.

All other things equal
this ends up being worse. Stoudemire has better market value than Tmac, since he can help a lot as a rental for a playoff-bound team this year. Tmac is 80% rust at this point.
So I agree that, as expiring contracts go, there’s little difference. But, all other things being equal, we ought to be able to get better young parts/draft picks from Houston than from the Suns, since the Suns will have more potential trading partners.
yep
And that’s why if the Wizards make this trade, it’s because they plan to resign Stoudemire.

Stoudemire
has more value as a sign-and-trade than T-Mac.
Wizards trade for Amare – then this summer, when teams have run out of money chasing LeBron, Wade, Nowitzki, Bosh, Johnson, etc…. and are looking to put that final piece to contend for a Championship….can trade with Washington.
Since the Wiz own his “Bird” rights, they can sign Stoudemire to a 6-year contract (no one else can sign him for more than 5-years) – and then trade him to a Cleveland (to play with LeBron), or to Miami (to play with LeBron and Wade) or to Dallas (when Nowitzki resigns)….. Or to a team that lost out on all the Free Agent frenzy – and get back young players, and draft picks….
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
ahhh...
A valid point. Another reason to trade for him.

You guys think Amare is getting a max deal?
That’s a real question, not a rhetorical one.
by MR on Feb 3, 2010 11:18 AM EST up reply actions
I’ve had my doubts. A lot of it might depend on next season’s salary cap and luxury tax threshold. If they drop drastically that won’t work in Amare’s favor.
by Johnnie Futbol on Feb 3, 2010 11:25 AM EST up reply actions
If he doesn’t get max then a sign and trade is useless and his value to the team that owns his expiring is next to nothing. Do I have that right?
by MR on Feb 3, 2010 12:36 PM EST up reply actions
I am more worried that he won't care about the sixth year and extra money
that he will just want out of D.C. period and won’t cooperate on a sign-and-trade.

I'd do it for AJ if we couldn't do the JJ Hickson and Z deal
For Caron I would expect a pick and player or 2 players since we would be taking on alot of salary and helping their cap situation. They’ve given away a kings ransom for cap relief before.
This would be Amare's worst nightmare
Imagine going from Nash and the Suns up-tempo to watching Boykins dribble for 18 seconds every possession. He’d fake a minor injury and sit out the last 10-15 games.
My guess
There’d have to be a 3rd team involved that wants Amare down the stretch. Wiz need to come away from a deal like this with at least 3 good young players and/or picks
These rumors can drive you crazy
because they have no consistency. Is Grunfeld trading for youth, a la the Haywood for Rudy and Batum rumor? Or is he trading young for old, like this Foye and Butler for Amare trade? Who knows? The sad fact is that after all of these years with the Wizards, we have no idea what he might do, though if I had to guess, I would guess he is going to trade young for old.
Does anyone else think AJ might fit jn really well with Phoenix though?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laydODN6xVk
Phoenix at its core is an old team...
if you consider that its key players are Nash, Grant Hill and J Rich… so if they think the future is now, they might want to gamble on AJ + Foye rather than Butler + Foye… but Portland has a much better case for wanting Haywood and I still think that should be the Wizzies first priority, with the price being Rudy F and Blake.
But what if....
Arenas-Young-Miller-Amare-Haywood. Guys, that would be a very entertaining team. Dare to dream.
Yuck
Not really different than what we had this year — you’re just swapping Amare for Jamison. Might be slightly better, but from what I understand Amare’s not much better defensively than Jamison.
next years starters
ty lawson, leandro barbosa, andre iguodala, amare stoudemire, javale mcgee
i may be high off my ass on this one but if it were somehow possible
Are you just randomly naming NBA players?
Or is there a viable scenario where that happens?
