Would you be willing to stand pat just for one more chance at lEbron James and the Cavaliers?
For the past two months I have been in blow up the team, get whatever we can get, pray for John Wall, mode.
Than, during the first half of last night's game, after wins against the Knicks and Nets, it occurred to me, that maybe, just maybe, making a run of at the playoffs is really what we should be striving for. Of course, the Wizards wound up playing dreadful in the 4th Quarter, so, it kind of knocked my enthusiasm down a peg. But, nevertheless, I have been thinking about it all day.
What if we offered Mike James, Oberto and Stevenson expirings to New York in exchange for Danilo Galinari and Eddy Curry.
And do nothing else.
Instead of tanking, we make a run at getting the #8 seed in the playoffs. A chance at Lebron. A chance to crush that franchise. Pull the upset of all upsets.
What would it take? 1) Foye would need to play better, 2) Butler would need to play better, 3) Jamison would need to regain his early-season form, 4) Haywood and Mike Miller would have to continue to play well, and 5) Blatche would need to be agressive.
The worst case scenario is that we play hard, don't make any trades, and wind up in 9th place.
Best case scenario is that we make the trade for Curry/Galinari, get the #8 seed, beat the Cavs, then lEbron signs with the Knicks in the offseason thanks to all the cap space we gave them, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are erased from existence.
I hate to sound all William Wallace, but would you be willing to pass up all attempts to rebuild for just one more chance at lEbron James?

I'm tired of losing to a pretty untalented team every year that actaully plays hard and as a team
Lets blow it up!!!! Not trading as many people as possible this year will only hurt us in the long run.
How does Eddy Curry help us in any way, shape or form?
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
and, part of me is wants us to do it just to spite the Cavs
If we take on Curry, then the Knicks can make a run at LBJ and whomever LBJ wants to play with.
And the Cavs are the worst team in the league.

The Cavs are not the enemy
LBJ is the enemy.
What makes you think he’s going to be any less annoying in a Knicks or Nets uni?
He’ll still check his lip after every whistle.

The way I see it, the Knicks are just a very sympathetic franchise
The fans have had to put up with so much over the last decade that I actually want to see them do well. It doesn’t hurt, too, that they’re my second favorite team.

False, they are both the enemy
I hate Mike Brown, everyone on their roster except for maybe mo Williams, and the city of Cleveland at this point. If for no other reason but jealousy for being able to make it out of the first round.

Ironically, Mo Williams is among my least favorite Cavaliers
Nobody else really bugs me other than Varejao and Shaq, and everyone hates Varejao and Shaq.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
your'e right
but when i read this post its like someone jumped to my Wizards- related fantasies….i want this to happen not only because i hate LBJ, but because i hate the cavs an every other team in cleveland….i really wish this could happen though…
Actually, let's just take on Curry and a future pick for expirers and Stevenson
Just so that we can make it easier for them to get Lebron. Next year’s Cavs would then be at best last year’s Bobcats, and it’s not like we’ll be signing any major free agents for a while. There really isn’t any reason for us to take on 2011 expirers, so long as we can stay under the luxury tax.
by pantslessyoda1 on Feb 2, 2010 2:49 PM EST up reply actions
you mean any reason for us "NOT" to take on any 2011 expirings, correct?
If so, then I couldn’t agree more.
by John Park Williams on Feb 2, 2010 2:56 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, that's it
This is also the reasoning behind my complete and utter hatred of the idea of us giving away Butler for nothing more than expirers. The only guys who we should for all intents and purposes give away if it comes down to it are Jamison and Gilbert, everyone else is on a reasonable and/or expiring deal.

i agree
he wouldnt be any help to us whatsoever. he would be the new mike james

Hahaha funny scenario
This only works if you believe that the NBA would allow the Cavs to lose in the first round.
If all those other things were to come to pass, the refs in game 7 of this theoretical series would make Sacto vs. LA 2002 look like supreme court arguments.
Idk about that
Lebron actually got fined the other day. My jaw dropped when I read that.

No
Time to rebuild. We are not going to beat baby douche and his team. To me there is no point to getting the number 8 seed and put off rebuilding
I think we actually do
One of our problems on offense is that we don’t make enough threes. Gallinari would fix that, even though I doubt New York would be willing to part with him under any circumstances outside of a sign and trade for Lebron.

I diasgree
I guarantee you if we offered to take back Eddy Curry they would part with Galinari.
The other trade that I think we should consider is to take back both Curry, Galinari and Jeffries, in exchange for Mike Miller and Mike James.
The Knicks need to get rid of Eddy Curry in order to sign 2 max free agents. They are desperate for it.

I thought about the EXACT same trade
but Ernie Grunfeld will probably never do it…. that means a complete rebuild… multi-year rebuild… (because both Curry and Jeffries contracts run through next year) – that means giving up on THIS year AND next year…
And I don’t think this Organization, and specifically Ernie Grunfeld, have yet come to the realization that they need to blow it up… I think they’re still thinking they can get value from trading Jamison, and/or Butler – retool, and get to the Playoffs again next year…
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
One of our problems on offense is that we don’t make enough threes.
Well its definitely not from lack of trying… The problem with our offense is we are a team of long range jump shooters… Please don’t acquire another one…
The problem isn't threes, it's that we attempt too many contested long two-point jumpers
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
I think Knicks and Grunfeld are unlikely trading partners.
Isn’t there bad blood? Or is that history?
Totally different regime now
No Dave Checkets anymore.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
i would be open to a trade involing mcgrady that opens cap space
but this is crazy and i will hate the wiz for doing this if it happens: sign lebron james. worse thing to happen, worse that gilbert

As a fan, this is a dream scenario!!!
I could care less what happened for the next three years, if your scenario happened. Screw smart business, I like being a overly optimistic fan!!
Dude
We are 7 games behind Miami for the #8 seed. We would have to play 10 times better to even have a chance. This team is not improving, that second half against the Knicks proved that. Blow it up.
