Drew Gooden is likely to negotiate a buyout with the Wizards, sources tells Y! Sports. Bucks, Bobcats, Nugs and return to Mavs all possible.

Adrian Wojnarowski. If true, this marks the second time in as many years that Gooden has been bought out.

Good.

Looks like the Blatche/McGee era is set to begin.

20% off!

I just got an email from the Wizards offering me $10 off orders of $50 or more for merch. They were showing the Nick Young jersey prominently in the email… the future of the Wizards! What an era indeed…

The only jerseys in the store are Butler, Jamison, Young.

I’m guessing it will just be Young very soon. I like the guy, but him being the only jersey is just wrong.

oh lord

not sure i can take it. we’re marketing blatche. never thought it’d come to this.

Blatche/McGee ERA !!!!!!!!!!! i will cheers to that
Heres to trading ANtwan and for Blatche and Mcgee finishing the year off avg 20 / 10

maybe if Blatche goes Zack Randolf for the rest of the year we could Package him with Howards option for a top 10 pick in 2010 draft get lucky and get John Wall & DeMarcus Cousins build around them and Mcgee

LOL

the only reason Bucks, Bobcats, Nugs are being mentioned is so it’s not so blatant that the intention all along was for him to return to Dallas.

by JayKim41 on Feb 16, 2010 5:54 PM EST reply actions

Thank God.

The last thing we need is another player with an inflated sense of self-worth.

by Alpha_Snail on Feb 16, 2010 6:11 PM EST reply actions

If he would take it...

It would cut the tax bill by $1.6MM or so. More realistically we might get him to take 1/3 pay, so he could go get the minimum elsewhere and be whole.

Aw man

What are we gonna do without a beard bet around here?

by CJHutch on Feb 16, 2010 7:11 PM EST reply actions

Rat tail contest?

I could see Young and Blatche doing it

by pantslessyoda1 on Feb 16, 2010 10:07 PM EST up reply actions

but but but

Ernie was so excited about adding his rebounding…? sarcasm over.

Why can’t Ernie move Gooden for a couple wastes of space that make a little over 3M? Thats savings and warm bodies. This guy, like Haywood, is MUCH more valuable to his new team. Someone will make a better offer than… nothing.

by Jheiser3 on Feb 16, 2010 7:16 PM EST reply actions

At this point...

it’s hard for me to react with anything but relief to any trade that gets rid of Jamison’s contract. On the bright side, Moon used to be a Globetrotter. We should start him and just have him show off his old moves. We can elbow pass and finger-spin our way to the John Wall lottery!

by whippb on Feb 16, 2010 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

That might be good for 30 games

But not the next two years. I’d prefer Delonte West (of course that wouldn’t trim the cap as much) because West expires next year.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 16, 2010 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I’d love to get Delonte West. I know he’s had his issues, but the dude is bipolar. And at least his gun charge wasn’t in front of anyone else. But I like his game a lot.

by whippb on Feb 16, 2010 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

You know what? F%@# it….I guess it beats noting since we’re in total blowup mode….would be nice to get another pick and/or player though

by Edward TheThird on Feb 16, 2010 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

If this latest deal holds true, does that mean that Mike Miller could be bait in yet another trade? Wouldn’t he be valuable to OKC for a pick? I could see a number of teams finding value in acquiring him

by Edward TheThird on Feb 16, 2010 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

I'd think he's very valuable

As a player and as an expiring contract. Heck, we gave up the #5 for him and Foye, we should try to get back 10 cents on the dollar.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 16, 2010 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

That’s what I was thinking too….there seems like a more potential trade partners are popping as we move towards 3pm Thurs (expected)…..especially for a team looking for a boost like Boston…the Dallas trade may have been blah but if Ernie plays his cards right maybe a couple of add’l trades could make up for it a little….slightly

by Edward TheThird on Feb 16, 2010 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

Just realized that Moon has two more years on the books after this season, about $3M per….

by Edward TheThird on Feb 16, 2010 7:58 PM EST up reply actions

Mike Miller + Randy Foye
for
Peja Stojakovic + New Orleans !st (14th-10th)

by eltacoman on Feb 16, 2010 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

But do we want to take back $15M in salary for next year just for that draft pick?

by Edward TheThird on Feb 16, 2010 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

I could see it if we decide that we are going to now be buyers of bad contracts for the next year or two under the premise that we’re gonna suck anyway..it will give us picks and hopefully opportunities to draft some good players for the future

by Edward TheThird on Feb 16, 2010 8:15 PM EST up reply actions

You're undervaluing Foye/Miller

That combo’s worth at least the 5th pick in the draft.

Yours Truly
Ern

by morethesamewiz on Feb 16, 2010 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah but we couldn't get a 1st rd pick out of them from anyone right now.

I would guess. If we could, then we should jump all over that. I doubt Mike comes back, although Foye is a possibility

Dear Mr. Grunfeld,
I apologize, on behalf of all Wizards fans, for whatever it is we did to you.

by returnofswagger on Feb 17, 2010 1:25 AM EST up reply actions

Foye

I admit, I have no idea what the Wizards are planning to do with him. He seems like a reasonable asset at $4.8 million for next year on the qualifying offer, but not sure if they’d want a guy on a one-year deal going into unrestricted free agency.

by mfish on Feb 16, 2010 8:14 PM EST reply actions

I like him a lot

He’s not spectacular, but he’s solid and he competes. He’d actually be a perfect replacement for Derek Fisher in New York, Hinrich in Chicago, or Chalmers/Alston in Miami. I’m surprised more teams aren’t going after him. He’s not a great point guard per se, but he could be really nice next to an elite wing player.

by pantslessyoda1 on Feb 16, 2010 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

Why'd we give Dallas cash?

If we are going to end up buying out Gooden, so that he can go back to the Mavs?

by morethesamewiz on Feb 16, 2010 8:55 PM EST reply actions

Not understanding this

I don’t understand how you buy out a one year contract. Sorry for being ignorant on the buyout thing, but can someone explain to me how this works? My understanding is that Its essentially an agreement to dump the player and only pay 50% of the salary. Since his contract expires at the end of the season, what are we buying out?

by zl on Feb 16, 2010 11:49 PM EST reply actions

Well – in the case of Drew Gooden:

He makes $4.5 Million. Say you negotiate with Drew and his agent to buy out his contract ….. and you pay him $1 Million less. You save that amount off your Salary Cap; Drew Gooden becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent – and can sign with any team…..

if we buy out the remainder of his contract after that last press release. ernie has no credibility and u can count him gone….which of course, he probably is any ways. but that will confirm it.

bottom line, there is an ownership battle going on. they will have a new product next year and you can make your decision to what degree you want to support it. i m def a fan of ted’s work with the caps- so long term much more promising than anytime in my 40+ yr lifetime (except when i was 8-10 yo lol).

but this year’s season ticket holders got hosed! i guess it really is brightest before the storm

by les boulez bomber on Feb 17, 2010 8:18 AM EST reply actions

Given that Gooden gave back a certain amount of money last year

It’s also possible Z will do the same and that will knock the amount of total salary under the tax line for the Wiz.

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

by pookeyguru on Feb 17, 2010 1:36 PM EST reply actions

Gooden just traded again to the Clippers

If the Mavs are smart, they will encourage Gooden to buyout his contract with Wiz and return to the Mavs since Dampier’s knees look like they won’t hold up much longer. He can backup Haywood.

Also, if the Cavs are smart they will want Z to buyout and have him return to Cavs.

This will allow the Wiz to get way under the cap!
