Cavs talks with Wash for Antawn Jamison have intensified today, sources say. Cleve needed to relent on some pieces for possible deal there.

Good news indeed
Both to dump Jamison’s salary and because that makes it sound like we may get other assets too.

Woj is also saying
That we are going to buy out Gooden.

Sorry, he actually said
“Likely to negotiate a buyout.” Nothing definite.

Fanshotted this
It’s on the main page.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Yeah, you're too quick

Should read
“Cleve needed to say ‘no’ a little louder before Wizards give in.”

Wizards demanding Delonte West
to see whether it is possible to field an entire starting lineup of headcases.
Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

You must be crazy, to not want Delonte
We could use another shooter to add to our arsenal. No one in the NBA could handle the firepower in our backcourt, between him and Gil. Puns intended
Dear Mr. Grunfeld,
I apologize, on behalf of all Wizards fans, for whatever it is we did to you.

As far as I know this doesn't include me...
But I read somewhere that 80-90% of people have HSV-1 by the time they’re 50. So calling someone herpes boy is like calling someone right-handed boy.
(What’s more surprising is that 25% of adults are walking around with HSV-2, most of whom don’t know it. Be safe out there!)
That's a birthmark.
He’s had that port-wine stain since birth. Herpes outbreaks tend to come and go don’t they? That thing is always there looking exactly the same, so I’d say his claim is true.
At least he was smart enough to hide his guns in a guitar case.

Heard some joke this weekend (that i am going to butcher) talking about the winter olympics and how the guy never knew that if you see someone cross country skiing with guns strapped to their belt their called a biathlete… he knew if you saw someone circling the beltway on a three wheeled motorcycle with guns strapped to their back you call them Delonte West… but had no idea about the skiing thing.
VOID!!!
Does Michael Lee break any stories about this team any more?
His sources must not be very talkative lately.
To be fair, pretty much no local guy breaks stories anymore
Notice how ESPN, Yahoo or CBS Sportsline is breaking every trade?
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
He just doesn't throw up every rumor he hears
He usually has a more accurate breakdown than the other guys after the initial scoop.

just what i was about to post
it’s a tough road for respectable journalists that want to be the one with all the facts instead of being the one that’s first.
2009 BTB Part Deux Fantasy League Champion. 'Kill Everybody 13-2'. KDP knows football.
Tough to prove this is true or false
If the trade doesn’t go through, it just means they couldn’t work things out. All he’s saying is that they’re talking more.
I appreciate Woj for putting everything out there and not being worried about which ones come true or not. Good to have more information than less.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
If the Wiz don’t get Hickson, but Z and some added piece without a draft pick, is it still worth doing to dump Jamison’s salary? Mike?
heard on wtem 980's update during the 4 o'clock hour...
…the wiz and cavs were discussing a deal that would send jamison and miller for shaq and a number one, assuming cleveland got amare
Shaq part was shot down emphatically by Stein and Bucher and Windhorst on Twitter
Because it never made much sense. Shame on 980 for even bothering to discuss it.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Anything is possible...
Im sure this is a very unrealistic thought but Cleveland should honestly consider a 3-way with the Wiz and Phoenix with the following players:
The Wiz would get Shaq for the remainder of the season
Cleveland would get Jamison, Miller, and Amare Stoudamire
Phoenix would get Illgausgas
The Wiz would have a starting 5 of Boykins, Foye, Howard, Blatche, Shaq with Mike James, Young, Gooden (if he does not get bought out), McGee, Maguire, Oberto, and the other two new guys….We seem to have a history of taking old superstars at the end of their careers so why not??
Cleveland would have their super-squad as I dont see anybody else in the east keeping up with the talent or depth they would have with the additions of Miller, Jamison, and Stoudamire.
Phoenix would of course be the difficult sale in this deal as they would only be trading expiring contracts. I wasn’t able to verify if it would work, but possibly Cleveland could throw in Hickson and/or a draft pick to the deal.
Another addition I wouldn’t mind seeing (not sure if it is possible) is to send Channing Frye to the Wiz.

The salaries don't come anywhere close to matching up
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Not necesarily true
The above actually would be a valid trade according to the CBA, and was able to verify the following as valid:
Washington takes Shaq, Channing Frye
Cleveland takes Stoudamire, Miller, Jamison
Phoenix takes Ilgauskas, Hickson (can even throw in a draft pick to make the deal go through)
I know this is just a day dream, but if I were in EG’s position, I’d be trying to push for this since it would bring people into the Verizon center to see Mr Icy Hot in a Wizards jersey. Not sure if Shaq would even go for this as his minutes would significanly increase to at least 30 a night. But if we could also work something out with Gooden, could potentially field a team that could sneak into the #8 spot.
by TheRealBigMike on Feb 17, 2010 11:43 AM EST up reply actions
Three things
1. Phoenix can get Hickson and salary relief from the Cavs – why would they want to give up Frye in the process?
2. Why would Washington give up both Miller and Jamison for ONLY Channing Frye?
3. Cleveland has said they do NOT want to trade Shaq.
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Good to hear about Cleveland
My guess? Miami has a better package for Stoudemire, and Cleveland knows it…. so they’re going to Plan B.
How about this nugget? Chad Ford talking about Draft Picks for sale and the OKC Thunder:
They have multiple first-round picks but are trying to preserve cap space for the summer. In addition, the team is already loaded with young players. I could see the Thunder using one of their picks to entice a team to take the last year of Nick Collison’s deal in return for an expiring contract.
Nick Collison’s salary is $6.2 Million – Guess which team has an expiring contract for $6.4 Million?
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
OK Never mind...
here you go: I’ll let the cat out of the bag…
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
If the Wizards are trying to cut salary at the end of this year
why would they take on another $6.2m for next season?
Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.
It's what they should be doing
even if they aren’t. Assuming Antawn is traded we would have space for a couple of mid size contracts next year. We should use that space to accumulate draft picks. Then we could flip Collison next year.
by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 16, 2010 6:07 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe I'm misreading the situation
but the impression I get is that the team is trying to get rid of as much salary at the end of this season as possible. It’s not just about free agency or the draft, it’s about making the team’s financial situation attractive to buyers.
Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.
Yeah, I think that's what they're doing
That’s why I’m saying they should go after guys like Collison (from our perspective) even if they aren’t actually doing it.
Although, Woj’s tweet made it look like the Wiz held out for more than just salary relief in their negotiations with the Cavs, so who knows what their thinking is. They seem a little schizophrenic.
by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 16, 2010 6:30 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah if it was just about salary then we would've just taken Z and been done with it.
Then again, if it was about more than salary relief, that Dallas deal wouldn’t have gone down the way it did either. So who really know’s? Just EG I guess
Dear Mr. Grunfeld,
I apologize, on behalf of all Wizards fans, for whatever it is we did to you.
by returnofswagger on Feb 16, 2010 6:45 PM EST up reply actions
The Wizards are trying to shed THIS year's salary
The trade I proposed is essentially salary neutral for this year…. Ie: it doesn’t affect the 2009-2010 Cap or Lux Tax at all… (Wiz get the lower salary of Collison by $200K).
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Also
the more I think about it…. Ernie is probably under a MANDATE to get under the Tax THIS year…. and then he’s probably free to make trades that improve the team, or bring prospects and picks….. (like the one I showed above)
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Too big of a risk for Ernie
Acquiring a virtually free rookie and and a guy that could be used as trade bait next year to maybe bring in another young guy. I know bringing 6 mil next year seems like a bad idea, but its not that much $$$ and we do have a roster to fill out. And like I said he will be an expiring contract that could possibly be used in a trade
Dear Mr. Grunfeld,
I apologize, on behalf of all Wizards fans, for whatever it is we did to you.
by returnofswagger on Feb 16, 2010 6:06 PM EST up reply actions
Well, he's a good bench player.
At this point, the Wizards don’t really need to be collecting role players.
Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.
I think Jamison will be gone for no less then expiring contracts
nothing great about Blake or Outlaw though. That Haywood trade though to the Blazers is dissappointing though
Ive said it once… Ill say it again… If the wizards let some minutia like JJ Hickson stand in the way of dumping Jamisons contract I am moving whatever snow is left to the Verizon Center and blocking all entrances/exits.
VOID!!!
All these deals that we are doing suck……..we arent gonna be able to sign any big time free agents this summer so this is just gonna make us that much worse for a lot longer
I still hate the fact that AJ could go to Cleveland
I know I’m highly in the minority but still. Is it smart financially, yes? But I hate it with a passion!
