Antawn Jamison to Houston?

Hello Wizards fans,

Over at The DreamShake(houston rockets blog) we are still recovering from tears of not getting Butler and Haywood. But, our GM has talked to yours over the weekend about a deal that would send Antawn Jamison to Houston. We do not have many details surrounding the deal other than expiring contracts and maybe a first round pick being in it. If you guys can fill me in on anything you have heard that would be great. Also, if you could tell me in what players you would like to have for Jamison. Thanks for your time.

I'm confused why Houston would want Jamison

Isn’t the Landry/Scola combination just as good? Presumably, you’d give us back one of those guys unless a third team were involved. I’d prefer Landry, but I don’t see why you’d give him up. With either of those players, we’d still need to take back a lot of salary which would mean you’d have to give up Ariza, who we wouldn’t want, or Battier who I don’t think you’d part with.

Another option would be McGrady. We could package Miller and Jamison for McGrady. I think you’d have to give another player back for roster space purposes. That would actually add salary to our roster this year, so we wouldn’t do it without cash or a trade of additional players. That doesn’t seem particularly appealing if I’m Houston (how would they split time with Jamison, Scola, and Landry?), but who knows.

My uneducated guess is that a third team would have to be involved.

I don't see the point either

They are already a good team and set at the power forward spot. I do not understand why you wou would want Jamison. He is not a good defender. He is a little bit better of a scorer, but thats all. I do not think the Rockets would be that much better with him. You lose more than you gain. Because you would have to trade one of your power forwards unless you want jamison at sf. You lose a lot of defense. You also lose cap making it harder to sign a star like Bosh or Stoudemire.

Maybe use Antawn as a SF?

To try to match up with the big SFs in the West. Odom, Kirilenko, Carmelo, Marion. Battier/Ariza are undersized to deal with those guys. Ha! Someone trying to trade for Antawn for his defense!

by yop32 on Feb 15, 2010 5:34 PM EST reply actions

Battier and Ariza are great defenders

I don’t see them having problems. Also Kirelenko and Marion are no longer really scoring threats

by MJ5 on Feb 15, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

Also they are both 6'8

and Battier is 220+lbs. He is not undersized

by MJ5 on Feb 15, 2010 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

Artest is 260 lbs, Odom is 6'-10".

And somebody needs to guard that Kobe guy.

by yop32 on Feb 15, 2010 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

and you think that “somebody” is Jamison?? I could understand this type of confusion from a rockets fan but from a wiz fan?? Youve got to be kidding

VOID!!!

by dt3 on Feb 15, 2010 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

yeah ask a million people who they would rather want guarding those guys

I guarantee you its Ariza and Battier
Nobody trades for Antawn for his defense/

by MJ5 on Feb 15, 2010 10:29 PM EST up reply actions

That's why it's funny.

And yet, there might be a grain of truth in there.

If not, why else would they want to trade for Antawn when they already have a bunch of very good forwards?

by yop32 on Feb 15, 2010 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

rockets have defense

but having a post scorer would help any team. Plus I don’t see Jamison being a bad fit anywhere (contract not considered). The only real trade I could see would be Jamison/Miller for TMac and a draft pick. Considering it looks like the Wiz care more about cap space next year I don’t see us adding Battier (not that the Rockets would want to give him up). So TMac is only option I’d think and maybe Jermaine Taylor if the Wiz couldn’t get a first round draft pick

i was a little confused at why we would want jamison too but i'm not our GM.

well it seems as though that we are hours away from getting a deal with the knicks. daryl morey is the best GM in the league. you want to know why? we are trading tmac, joey dorsey, and brian cook for jordan hill, al harrington, and jared jeffries. AND, we would swap first round picks in the 2011 draft, get their first round pick in 2012 and get their second round pick for next year’s draft. that is simply amazing.

Texans>>>>>>>Titans
Super Mario>>>>>>>Vince Young

That's ridiculous.

The Knicks are essentially giving up their 2012 first rounder and swapping 2011 picks in order to clear Jeffries’ $6.9 mil next year. The Wizards could just as easily trade with the Knicks.

Wiz get: Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, Darko Milicic and New York’s picks.
Knicks get: Mike James, Mike Miller, and Oberto. All expiring contracts.

they are in love with t-mac though.

they probably will sign him after this year.

of course less money than 22.5 million though.

Ahh ok

I thought it was a straight salary dump for the Knicks. Interesting to see if they will actually be able to sign a big free agent and McGrady.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 15, 2010 8:14 PM EST up reply actions

hahaha if the knicks resign mcgrady they are idiots

the man has never been out of the 1st round!!!! Talk about bad karma.

I don’t T-Mac anywhere near my organization if I am trying to recruit lEbron James

by John Park Williams on Feb 15, 2010 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

The Knicks hope

They can get Two big free agents and resign McGrady on the cheap.
I think if they dump Curry its possible.

by forthepeople on Feb 16, 2010 12:18 AM EST up reply actions

If that's true

then there’s no reason to trade for McGrady now right? Since they could just sign him for cheap in the offseason anyway. In that case, they’d be better off dealing with the Wizards, since we wouldn’t require a swap of 2011 first rounders.

by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Feb 16, 2010 10:25 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think they have enough to sign a big free agent AND McGrady

unless they move Edy Curry’s $10.5 Million contract….

An opportunity for the Wiz to step in and give NY cap relief – in exchange for pick(s) and prospect(s)?

Miller + Foye for Gallanari, Wilson Chandler and Edy Curry PLUS whatever picks NY has left over from trading with Houston (2014 unprotected First, 2010 second rounder)…

for the life of me I dont understand why teams are not trading for Eddy Curry

sure, the knicks would like to unload Jeffries, but they would sell their soul just to trade Curry.

Why don’t the Mavs offer this?
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ylzq38o

Or the Bucks offer this?

how rich must Mark Cuban be? How can he keep doing this?

when Devean George vetoed the trade a few years ago, he renegotiated the Jason Kidd deal, and it wound up costing him something like $14 million extra dollars!

And it didn’t seem to affect the team financially at all.

Winning teams make money

Something the Wizards don’t know a lot about……..

Oh and

I will reverse my thinking on the Butler/Haywood trade if the rumored Jamison to Milwaukee trade comes through for Ilyasova and a First round Pick…..
