Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

League source says Boston remains in talks w Wiz for Jamison, but Miami also now among teams w interest.

Mike Jones. Miami surprises me, in that I don't see them taking on long-term salary. Maybe we can somehow pry Beasley or one of their two first-rounders from them for a Jamison/Josh Howard package.

AJ/JH won't work

Howard can’t be included with another Wizard in a trade for two months.

by RamV on Feb 13, 2010 4:43 PM EST reply actions

well we could keep him for this year.

what would it take to swap jamison for allen?

by wizchamp on Feb 13, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

You'd have to break it up into two trades

Howard can be traded, but only by himself. So you’d have to do something like Howard for Q-Rich, then Jamison/Young for Haslem/Jones/Cook/1st.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Feb 13, 2010 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

If you could pull a Michael Beasley...

which I dont think is outside of the realm of possibility if Jamison is on the table, then I would absolutely pull the trigger.

The thing that bothers me most about the Josh Howard trade is that we give up two players we developed to the level they’re at now for someone who we’ll rent for half a season and then nothing else.

Trading Jamison within our division would be tough, but having Michael Beasley to develop would be a nice consolation prize. We’ve proven with the two studs we’re about to send to Dallas for that pot smoking, anti-patriot Josh Howard that we can maxamize guys potential. Adding someone with the post savvy and balanced inside outside game like Beasley could really help us in rebuilding this team.

wHAT?

You denigrate Josh Howard in one sentence for pot smoking, and say NOTHING about Beasley (and his pot smoking problem his Rookie year, or his checking into a rehab center to get his “head straight”)???

This trade works though - and helps Miami stay in the LeBron sweepstakes

Jamison + Boykins + McGuire FOR Beasley, Haslem and Dawquan Cook
Salaries are within $100K – so there shouldn’t be any major Tax implications for either team.

Next year, the Heat would have Jamison ($13.3 Million) + D. Wade ($17.1 Million) committed to salaries (Plus first round pick around $1 Million)… with the Cap expected to be between $52 Million to $54 Million, that leaves them $19-22 Million under the Cap – enough for a Max contract for LeBron (17Million) plus a little more…

But Daequan Cook is the key in the deal.

They could then fill in the remainder of the roster with Veteran Mimimum, MLE, LLE players.

Wizards get a young player (Beasley) at 1/3 the price – they could even buy out Haslem and let him go back to Miami in time for the Playoffs……

Or

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykbwl4w

The other key is Jones. Bad player on a small dollar contract but long term. The question is next year, would the Heat rather have Jamison or Cook/Beasley/Jones? Roughly the same in dollar terms. The Wizards get a local solid young player (with only two-years left), an expiring next year and turn a large long-term commitment into a smaller long-term commitment (despite one more year).

I think I’d do this trade if I was both teams. All the Heat have to do is sign either Lebron or Bosh next off-season and they have a true Big Three. We get younger and cut salary for this season and future seasons.

Miami has a team option on Jones…

http://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami.htm

They can decline the option…. He then becomes an unrestricted Free Agent… Miami saves $4.6 Million on next year’s Cap…

Most everyone agrees that Miami will renounce him.

Why would Miami ever do that?

(And if they did it why would we buy out Haslem?)

It hurts them this summer, which is when they’re going all in, AND it hurts them in the long run because they lose two nice younger guys.

by RamV on Feb 13, 2010 5:28 PM EST up reply actions

They can't go ALL IN with Beasley and Cook on the roster....

With Beasley and Cook, the best they can do is one max contract…. with both Beasley and Cook gone, they can go after TWO max contracts…. That’s why they were interested in Stoudemire… except if Stoudemire opted in, Miami would be screwed… having only about 15 Million if Stoudemire opted in… and if Cook is still on the books…

The Jamison trade above allows them to get a stretch-4 Power Forward (and a better rebounder than Beasley) – without giving up the opportunity to lure LeBron James this Summer…. James might be interested in a team with D. Wade and Antawn Jamison on it….

He’s certainly NOT going to be interested in either New York or NJ – neither of whom have any elite players to team with..

Why do we buy out Haslem? My thinking is that Miami might think giving up both their Starting Power Forward AND their Back-up…. they might consider the deal more if the Wiz agreed to buy-out Haslem and let him re-sign with Miami for the Playoffs.

NIce work if you can get it...

Beasley for Jamison? Pat Riley is no one’s fool and unless he has Wade and LeBron both secretly committed to spend eternity together in sunny South Beach with AJ as their godfather, this deal makes no sense.

But hey what do I know?

by khrabb on Feb 13, 2010 5:11 PM EST reply actions

No sense?

If Miami wants to keep D. Wade, then just like Cleveland does with LeBron, they better show him they’re trying to improve the team…

Right now, assuming next year’s cap is $52-54Million, they can afford one max contract this Summer (LeBron? Bosh? Nowitzki? Joe Johnson?)… Obviously the best case scenario would have them landing LeBron – but he won’t come to a team that’s been ransacked…

Miami has 3 players under contract for next year (assuming D. Wade doesn’t opt out)… Dwayne Wade, Michael Beasley and Daequan Cook – I don’t think a Beasley/Wade combo is enticing enough for LeBron… But Wade/Jamison might be….

And Jamison ($13.3Million) + Wade ($17.1 Million) + LeBron (Max Salary roughly $17 Million) is still ~ $6 Million below the projected Cap….. then fill in the remaining team with MLE, LLE Vet Minimum contracts….

Even if they don’t entice LeBron to come to Miami, perhaps they could then get two of the next-tier Free Agents (David Lee + Joe Johnson)??? Wade, Jamison, Lee, Joe Johnson core is pretty good….

I doubt we get Beasley

Chalmers and/or a pick would be nice, though. I really don’t care if this turns into a Kwame for Gasol thing, I just want to start rebuilding.

I think Jones is not a true team option

Chad Ford in his write up for the potential Amare deal says Jones is only partially Guaranteed next season, so the Heat would face a penalty for cutting him. From what I found online its somewhere between $1.8 million next year to $2 million each of the three remaining years. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=TradeWatch-100211

I suggested a Jamison-Beasley trade though some of the details might need worked out here the other day http://www.bulletsforever.com/2010/2/12/1307950/jamison-trade-idea
