Wizards run out of gas against the Celtics

Judging from how this game finished, you'd think it was the Wizards who were playing their fourth game in five nights, not the Celtics.

Ugh.

4th Quarter problems:

  • Too much Boykins
  • too many missed Jamison shots
  • No Blatche down the stretch
  • NO Randy Foye in the 4th

Jamison's 4th quarter?

0-4 including a missed lay-up…. 5 personal fouls (resulting in 6 FT for the Celtics)…

Meanwhile, Garnett (Jamison’s responsibility), 5 points (2 for 2)…

Read this story before
  • Wiz settle for jumpshots late while the opposing team posts up
  • Caron going one on one and dribbling the clock out
  • Foye leaving his feet with nowhere to go

And are we REALLY at the point where a teams 3rd best player causes us to bench one of our starters? As Wizards fans, we’ve witnessed Rajon Rondo go from an awkward, out of place rookie to a legit all star on BOTH ends of the court. Yet another argument for DRAFTING your own talent rather than casting your picks away for someone else’s trash.

This story is getting real old, real quick.

Yeah

yer prob’ly right. It’s just hard for me to admit it. Guys like him, Rodney Stuckey, maybe even Devin Harris, are better FULL COURT players than Arenas ever was, and they came from relative obscurity. Meanwhile, we’ve paid Arenas about $100mil, with nothing to show for it.

What do they say about hindsight again?

And there was another one too… Something about drafts and prospects and crapshoots???

I wanted Rondo at the time

I distinctly remember this. It was before I blogged, but I wanted a young PG prospect since the 06 draft was deep in them and he was at the top of my list.

me too

Gilbert is the kindof limited guy you need a good backup to give you the whole package.

third

I was about 50-50 on whether it was Marcus Williams or Rajon Rondo. Madder than hell when Pecherov was taken before.

Great way of putting it Prada

One thing I was impressed with was the play of the bench. They finished with 39 to Boston’s 35.

blame Flip Saunders...

This loss is on the Coach. He kept Boykins in too long, and Blatch/Young not long enough. I know Foye was in a funk, but he can create his own shot with 6 seconds left on the shotclock. Boykins simply cannot. Also, why didn’t FS run some plays for Miller at the end?

by CVC on Feb 1, 2010 10:29 PM EST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Miller got in there too late.

Conspiracy Theory

My thinking is: Jamison does not want to be traded, so he is playing like crap subconsciously. He does not mean it, but he wants to stay here and be the man versus going to Cleveland and being a scrub. Just a thought, and every action and word for Tawn’s whole career back it up.

Great game tonight. Beating the Celtics for 3 quarters felt like a win to me. Way too much Boykins down the stretch and not enough Miller.

peace.

Rajon Rondo

is the best player on that squad, bar none

More reinforcement for the notion of trading both Butler and Jamison.

Jamison

We just needed Blatche instead of Jamison in the fourth, he was horrible but the coach still played him

Yes, Gilbert's remediation...

has begun in earnest…. And the word choices suggest he might not mind staying in DC. Never say never, I guess.

There's a thread about that already

Can't argue....

With any of the comments. Way too much Boykins in the fourth. He just can’t get a shot up over taller defenders. He plays well in spots when the defense isn’ t quite as tight. He hit a variety of little runners and floaters early in the game. But when we needed someone to create he just wasn’t able to pull it out. Come to think of it, there really isn’t one guy on the team who can do that right now. Foye and Miller are decent at getting to the rim, but they just can’t do it consistently enough right now. I thought that Butler actually played an atrocious game last night. His jumper was falling a little more consistently than it usually does, but he can’t get a shot in the flow of the offense. He has really turned into a huge black hole. And it’s not really that his role or his game has changed, he just isn’t coming through on any of those isolations.

I agree for the most part,

and have been saying this for awhile. except I think Nick Young can create his own shot. Which is why I keep clamoring for them to give him more floor time, at the expense of Butler. I also agree that Butler has become a “black hole”, and I think the best way to keep his trade value up is to sit him, before teams start to think this is the player he has become.
