JaVale McGee has released a bunch of basketball instructional videos
Last night, right before the Lakers game, JaVale McGee posted this message on his Twitter account.
Just got some great news earlier today.... Tell y'all l8r ... Time to get ready for this game and I'm listening to garota de ipanema
Apparently, this is that great news. McGee has apparently partnered with ProTips, a online venture that provides sports training tips from the world's best athletes. Current hoops clients include Taj Gibson and Dickey Simpkins, with Jared Dudley, Will Bynum, Mo Williams, Paul George, Gordon Hayward and Jon Scheyer listed as "coming soon." It's basically a bunch of training videos and interviews of McGee teaching people basketball fundamentals. Part of the proceeds go to the Child Neurology Foundation, so it's for a good cause.
That said, I'm sure plenty of you will get in your zingers about the idea of JaVale McGee teaching fundamentals to a wide audience. The first preview video, ironically enough, is about passing, featuring McGee explaining to viewers the difference between a "lollygagging pass" and a "chest pass." Snark away if you want.

Snarking commenced
JM: “Now I’ll show y’all how to box out your man. First: look around, where he’s at? No seriously, where is he? Oh sh..” [sound of opponent making put-back dunk]

Another Rec for you. Hilarious!

"JaVale has five highlight plays a game. Unfortunately, there's about 200 plays in a game. He's got to get more substance than style." -- Flip Saunders summing up Javale McGee perfectly
No snarks from me
I’m all in on the Big Daddy Wookie bandwagon, growing pains and all.

Despite my snarking, I must say..
I think it’s quite cool that JM was listening to “The Girl from Ipanema” before the game. Joao Gilberto is the smoothest.
You Know What They Say
A person often learns a lot more about the subject matter when he is forced to teach it. Hopefully that will be the case with Javale.

Javale on defensive fundamentals
“Don’t worry about defensive rotations and all that crap. It’s too hard. Just kind of hedge toward the ball all the time and look for chances to block shots. If your man gets wide open inside, that’s good because you might be able to recover in time to block his shot. Not usually, but those few times it pans out you get a nice highlight, which is what it’s all about.”

Javale on offensive rebounding
“Always crash the boards for put back dunks. If you don’t get the ball, most likely your man will get an easy bucket on the other end and you won’t have to cross half court for the next possession: win – win.”
