Right now our team is a bullet, just waiting to be shot
And the way to pull that trigger is by the following trade
No brainer on our end.The main goal of the organization from a personel standpoint has to be ridding themselves of gilberts contract. Whatsmore, Eddy Currys contract expires THIS year, with a buyout were talking about getting out from about 80 million over four years. Personally i would not do this deal if im the knicks, however, i feel like in terms of the way the universe is, the knicks do this deal 100%. The fit for there team and situation is just too obvious. We throw in a Nick Young, Al Thorton, Hilton Armstrong, hell even Kirck Heinrich to get it done without giving up draft picks. Immediatly, we are an organization with a franchise player, a throng of young talent, a brilliant owner who Will do everything in his power to make this team great, and more than likely another top 7 draft pick. A team like that would look pretty attractive to a player entering free agency in 2011, maybe Melo becomes a legit possibilty. We make this trade and the gun fires and our team starts moving in the same direction at speed similiar to that of our point guard. Tell me why this doesnt happen once gil shows hes healthy.

80 million benjamins tell you
But hey if the knicks, or any other team for that matter, are willing to take him, lets do it! With the way things are going i doubt someone will however. I think a buy out is the most realistic way to end this akward mariage. If its still the same $hit, different day come allstar break and no trade possibility is available, buy him out, please

1. I cannot think of a scenario where the Wizards could trade for Curry… In order to make the trade work, the Knicks would have to trade additional player(s) to make the numbers work… Show me a trade where the Knicks only give up Curry’s expiring contract that works under the current Collective Bargaining agreement.
1a – If you “throw in” Young, Thornton, Armstrong, or any other players, then the Knicks would have to return like salary…. Which players would the Knicks deem worthy of parting with to get Arenas? (Tony Douglas? Nope…. Tyson Chandler? Not hardly. Azubuike? NO. Gallinari, Turiaf, Randolph, Walker? NO – The Knicks are not going to want to give up any young talent to get Arenas) – who then?
2. The Denver Nuggets want young players, draft choices, AND cap relief (ie: expiring contracts) in any trade for Melo – why would the Knicks deny themselves a chance at trading for Carmello to get Arenas?
3. Even if they can’t get a trade done, tell me why the Knicks would want to squander their cap space (Curry’s expiring contract) in the very year the Carmello Anthony becomes an unrestricted Free Agent…

Exactly
I say this as a fan of both teams, too, that deal just doesn’t make sense for NY, at least not now. It seems like if they just let EC expire, they can sign Carmelo this summer, possibly for even less than Gilbert makes. There’s no way that they get a chance at Gil and Melo and choose Gil. I think Gilbert would work well in D’Antoni’s system as a shooting guard and that Melo would flop to an extent there, but I just don’t see it happening. That said, a deal of Gil, Young, a big like Armstrong or Blatche or Yi, and maybe a conditional (lottery protected) first rounder for EC and Chandler could conceivably work for everyone if Melo gets traded to a team other than NY.

I admit i do not know the cap numbers but....
There are many ways for teams to compensate for that we could involve a third team, throw cash into the deal, etc. and after half a decade of busts and losing and justifying it on waiting for lebron the knicks are looking for a quick fix. Getting Gil for nothing but money would allow them to make the playoffs this year possibly saving Dantoni’s job. I think your underestimating the climate of the New York organization.
I think you're overestimating their desperation.
We’re looking at a culture under Donnie Walsh that has steadfastly grown their cap space in anticipation of last summer. The last thing this team is going to do is blow it on what appears to be a broken down SG on a max contract. You might argue giving Amar’e a max contract WAS blowing out, but then you’re underestimating Amar’e, which is fashionable. Pradamaster has already given the lie to that statement and I won’t rehash it here.
Don’t forget NY has their eyes on more than Carmelo. Chris Paul himself is coming to oversee the final stages of this Death Star. Many Bothans died to bring you this information. New York has their eyes on their own version of the super friends and Paul’s contract expires in the new CBA. If you think the Knicks will jeopardize their chance at ’melo and a pass first elite point guard for a formerly highly effiicient volume shooting combo guard on a max contract…New York may just hire you as a consultant.

Well said
Even if Melo signs the contract extension with Denver – thereby closing the door on a potential move to New York – the Knicks would never trade for Arenas – and give up hope they could get Chris Paul….
The whole reason the Knicks organization took the path they did over the last several years (sucking, but not taking on any long-term contracts) – was so they could be players in the FA market – and eventually build what Boston did; a team of at least 3 superstars. Miami just beat them to it… but the Knicks still have a chance to do it as long as they don’t blow their Cap space on an unknown commodity like Arenas.

Now
If you want to talk about Orlando – and an Arenas trade… That might be possible… but the Knicks? no….

It's too bad Arenas wasn't on display tonight...
…and that Carter played so well. Otis Smith will find it even easier to stand pat if this keeps up.
