Wizards lose to Pistons, and this is in lieu of a recap
With no TV, it's hard to really say anything substantive about the Wizards loss to the Pistons last night. Michael Lee's blog post makes it seem like John Wall got a crash course in the NBA, both offensively, where Ben Wallace bothered him on pick and rolls, and defensively, where Rodney Stuckey abused him. That's fine, it's preseason, oh well. Can you tell I'm ready for the season to start already?
So instead of a recap, maybe you guys can help me explain what the heck is going on in this picture of Al Thornton and Wallace. Best caption wins a lot of greens.

Caption from WaPo:
“Trying to recapture some of the TV audience lost to a soccer game which aired on CSN instead of last night’s Wizards game, Al Thornton attempts a header off of an inbounds pass from John Wall. Piston Ben Wallace was given a yellow card.”

The NBA has fined Al Thornton $100,000
Following the lead of the NFL, the NBA is giving out severe fines to try and curtail the rise of collisions to the head, by the ball.
“I think this is so unfair. It’s going to taint the game” said a bewildered Al Thornton.
“I knew the league was serious about handing down punishments. You saw what happened to Gilbert last year. I knew, I had to get out of the way of that ball. I’m just glad I no longer have the fro because it would surely cause some fines this year” said a grateful Ben Wallace.

Know how when kids play hide and seek and they say, "Tell me when I'm getting warm."
Al and Ben Wallace are having some trouble finding the ball and John Wall is in the background saying, “Al you are getting warm, warmer, warmer. Ok if you were any warmer your hair would catch on fire. And yeah Ben you are Antarctica warm, whatever the hell you are looking at.”

Does anyone know Wall's pre season stats?
He averaged regular season minutes so it could say something.
I’m thinking 15 7 and 2 steals or something like that? Good start i’d say.
What concerns me a little though is his low amount of rebounds for a 6’4 tall dude with a 6’9 wingspan and also that he didn’t look very strong deffensively to me against Rose and apparently Stucky yesterday.
Can’t wait for the game agains the Magic! Paid a freakin €150 or so for league pass haha

Preseason stats are on NBA.com
The intensity level and opposition will get tougher in the regular season, so we can’t assume he’ll replicate these numbers. Opponents will also make adjustments as he’s scouted more. Still…
Wall in 35.4 minutes per game (starters minutes):
15.7 pts 7.9 ast 2.6 rbs
2.1 stl 0.4 blk 3.9 TO
42.6% FG 7.7% 3PT 74.2% FT
Pretty much what we expected, and makes him a top-15 point guard right out of the gate. So far he has been great at being disruptive on defense and creating shots for others. At 1/13, he should stop shooting 3’s in the reg season, which should help his FG% (he’s 47.7% on twos).
In case you’re wondering, Griffin and Cousins put up more impressive stats in the preseason. Especially Griffin.
They never taught me how...
to do a bicycle kick at FSU so this is header the best I could do…
khrabb is in tokyo so things will be lost in translation for the next few days :-)
