Evan Turner looking average in preseason

Anybody keeping an eye out for the other rookies and how they're playing? John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and Blake Griffin have all caught my eye, but any darkhorse for the rookie of year competition? Jordan Crawford had the huge game against the Wiz, Gordon Hayward, Wesley Johnson, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Paul George are putting okay stats up. Anybody watched Nikola Pekovic or Timofey Mozgov play because I haven't? Let me know what you think!!

Mozgov's looking ok

He fouls too much, but he’s active and seems like a solid scorer. Not someone you’d use a first round pick on, but for an undrafted player, he looks like a steal. It’s entirely possible he becomes a starter for NY.

as would I

Mozgov has looked very fluid offensively the little bit I have seen

Mozgov was undrafted so if he had much upside to improve, being able to do what he does now, he would be drafted, no?

i know i havent been the most positve guy as far as seraphin but i’m pretty sure he has the potential to be better than mozgov eventually

I dont think Mozgov was in the draft.

He was a pro in Russia since he was a teen. Have you seen him play? Not that he’s Tim Duncan or anything….but he’s definitely a 1st round talent. And at 7’1" 270, our 6’9" man Seraphin has a loooooong way to go to approach being as effective as a Center.

The question about Mozgov is

Can he stay in the game?

Right now, he’s a fouling machine… averaging over 7.5 fouls per 36 minutes…
The problem is that he was the same in Euroleague play…. and hasn’t seemed to adjusted yet to how fouls are called (either in Europe or in the NBA)….

So, even though he brings a certain energy, and can rebound and protect the rim – he won’t be much of an impact player unless he can stay on the court.

By the way,

Mozgov’s best game was against Washington. He played 22 minutes, scored 12 points (5-8 shooting), had 4 rebounds 1 block and only committed 1 foul….

Take that game away – and his foul rate climbs to over 8 per 36 minutes….

Yeah

Young players, and especially young big men, are always foul prone – until they get used to what they can get away with, and what they can’t….

Roy Hibbert was a foul-machine as a Rookie… Better last year – and this year, he’ll be a solid interior defender for Indiana.

I missed the Jordan Crawford game against the Wiz...

and haven’t seen him play at all yet this year. But I LOVED this guy out of college. My dream scenario would have been the Wiz picking him up and he and JWall being running mates for the next 20 years together. He dribbles kind of a lot and definitely shoots a lot but so do lots of all-stars.

Just putting it out there that the guy is gonna be super good one day.

Turner was struggeling in summer league too...

I dont really like him, akward voice, painfully average performance so far indeed

I thought it was because of a car accident?

Although that might have caused the hearing problems…

by pantslessyoda1 on Oct 20, 2010 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

ok, who cares about his voice.....

he just doesnt play very well. I only saw him play once in college, against Tennessee in the tournament, and JP Prince of the Volunteers shut him down.

Turner’s jump shot is way too mechanical, will have a tough time getting a clean shot off off of the dribble.

Poor Sixers. Seems like had they taken Cousins, they would be in great shape. Imagine Jrue Holliday/Cousins combo for the next decade?

I think Wes Johnson could come on late

He will likely be buried early – behind Beasley, Martel Webster and maybe even Corey Brewer…. but if Beasley screws up (likely), and Webster and Brewer play to their usual mediocre standards – I look for Johnson to get some significant playing time after December…

His game is tailor made for the NBA at the SF spot.. he has good range on his shot, he runs the floor, he scores inside, scores outside, rebounds and blocks shots. He will be a very good player.

If Wall struggles with turn overs, and Cousins attitude problems crop up – and if Blake Griffin gets hurt again – look for Johnson to steal RoY… That’s a lot of “if’s”, but not outside the realm of possibility.

by John Park Williams on Oct 21, 2010 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions

it would only be fitting.....

for Oden to win ROY the same year Durant wins MVP

Dunno, still to early

If he gets starters PT he could come around. I just dont want to see, or hear rather, another interview with the dude. And yes, 76ers would have looked great with Cousins.. As would the wolves with Rubio/Cousins or we with wall/cousins if we could have traded up…(EG that would be you im silently pointing at)

Kahn

I bet we could have packaged Arenas, Blatche and McGee for Al Jefferson and the 4th pick with that wacko GM. LOL
