We have anticipated the breakout of our once bench players, but now they are our focal points Right? Start of last season Andray Blatche filled jamisons spot perfectly, and was the go to man after the trade. In my opinion he played fantastic. Playing behind jamison for years i hope he takes on that consistent mentality.( us wizard fans no AJ was Mr consistent with double doubles night in and night out) But are the other youngsters ready?
In training camp last season flip saunders said nick young looked good as the starter over miller. When the season tipped of it was back to the regular nicky. 18 pts 1 game shooting 12 shots. Next Night 4 points off 3 attempts. Against New York he looked like the leader of the team. Then the next night he was on the bench biting his nails again. I hope to see nick young groom into the Next rip Hamilton (as flip is trying to make him) but he can be better he is more athletic and range extends further. With the addition of wall the fade away jump shots aren't needed. If he can knock down open shots he can very well be our sharpshooter with versatile ability and that's very DANGEROUS.
Javale Mcgee put on a impressive showing in summer league.(remember Andray Blatche did the same thing last year) Also had a chance to compete with the Olympians. Lets be real we are not going to throw the ball into the post and expect him to do a hook shot. It took Brenden Haywood 5 years to get that down pat. But he is athletic, long, and can move for a big man. Some big men can shoot 3s or post you and dominate. But Mcgee can beat you on the fast break. With the addition of wall again this is very Dangerous. But in order for this to happen he has to become a great rebounder and become a smarter athlete. I do believe in this kid, Using his long arms defensively and his legs offensively he can have a different approach of wearing down a defense.
With Arenas Butler haywood suffering injuries 2 seasons before. Arenas Suspension, Plus the trades. These guys have gotten a chance to showcase their talents. But now its time to become Men. They are no longer boys on the bench that can make excuses for a screw up. They are now key pieces to the puzzle.
