2010 Draft Possibilities

This is just a simple post wondering how you guys feel about next years draft. Since we are gonna have a high pick, which players besides John Wall do you guys like? I personally like Derrick Favors, Al-Farouq Aminu, Demarcus Cousins, and Xavier Henry. Since we already have young big men(Blatche and Javale) and young guards(Young and Foye), maybe a versatile SF like Aminu would be the best choice for us, unless of course we can get Wall. But if the Wizards don't have Young in their future plans, I would like Henry, because he is a mature 2 guard. He's also very big and talented for his position, could maybe even play a little SF. What do you guys think?

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

I haven’t watched a ton of college hoops (more than last year), but I’m up on Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson (don’t like his age) and Cole Aldrich (I know he’s sucked recently, but he’s a great role-playing type like Kevin Love. DeMarcus Cousins jumps off the page on the stat sheet, but I worry about his baggage.

Haven’t seen Aminu at all, and want to stay away from Derrick Favors.

At the end of the day, hopefully, we’ve begun the rebuilding process. At that point, it shouldn’t matter what position – we just need to take the best guy.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

WALL!

he is a better rose, and arenas is probably gone so we don’t have to worry about that spot.

Wall is transcendent.

As talented, skilled, and composed D Rose is at this early stage Wall is even better.
This is the year you dream of getting the #1 pick.

wont happen

unless for some luck we get the number 1 picks but highly unlikely with nets being god awful

I don't want to get my hopes up, but

it doesn’t really matter how many games the Nets lose, for all intents and purposes, winning 15 games this year will be just as good or bad as winning 25, since there are so many reasonably talented and mediocre teams who are good enough to win 30 but not good enough to make the playoffs or go anywhere. I figure that we’ll finish with somewhere between the third and fifth worst record in the league, which will give us a reasonable shot at getting Wall. Remember, too, how the Kings had far and away the worst record in the league last year and still had to choose fourth.

I think you're pessimistic (or maybe it's optimistic -- tanking is confusing.)

I think the Wiz are better than the Nets, Warriors, and TWolves for certain. We’ll probably be “battling” in the pack with the Sixers, Kings, Pacers, Pistons, Knicks, Bucks and Clippers for spots 4-11.

We actually have a slightly better record without Arenas so far (than with him), and the team seems to be improving a little, so those hoping for a complete collapse will have to wait until some trades are made. Then there’s always the chance that a trade may make the team better (e.g., Butler for anyone that will make positive contributions). With a little (bad?) luck, this team could make the playoffs! (And get swept by Cleveland.)

Wall Please

I really know its a longshot with us needing the 1st pick but we can dream right.

Maybe Stern will throw us a bone

And just say, “enough is enough. These poor fans need something to get excited about after the worst season in franchise history.” If the Clippers can get #1, then so can the Wiz.

I am convinced that the Clippers getting #1

is supposed to be proof that the lottery isn’t manipulated.

It's like when Churchill

let the Germans bomb Coventry even though he knew the attack was coming because he couldn’t let the Germans know that England had broken their codes. He had to let some bad stuff happen otherwise the Germans would know something was up.

Was it 'over' when the Germans bombed Peral Harbor?

Hell, no!

Ha ha, good one Rook

OTOH, I think that the league must somehow know that there are knees ready to go out every time they let the Clips get the #1. Like super secret medical reports perhaps. The portland pick was a fluke.

assumed draft position

my issue with this post is assuming the wizards will get a lottery pick. this is the eastern conference, if we go on a seven or eight game win streak we’re talking playoffs not lottery. i know i may be high off these back-to-back wins, but its still early and the team appears to be starting to gel. i also realize everyone on here seems content with the blow-it-up and rebuild philosophy and probably with good reason, but with the kind of lottery luck we’ve had in the past i think a partial rebuild incorporating effective pieces from this year’s team is more logical. unless somehow we land the #1 pick and get john wall.

I live at www.nbadraft.net

I see Donatas Motiejunas as being a potential franchise player
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E37MBYJ-w7k&feature=fvw

My personal board is…(haven’t seen DeMarcus Cousins, Xavier Henry or anyone on Texas play)
1. John Wall
2. Evan Turner
3. Donatas Motiejunas
4. Al-Farouq Aminu
5. Greg Monroe
6. Wesley Johnson

Replace that dude with the long last name

and put Cousins on there. Dude is a man child. Has an awesome post game and a NBA ready body. He is all ready better than Patrick Patterson. Also just to divulge my bias I am a Maryland fan and despise all things Kentucky.

by ccrun1800 on Jan 31, 2010 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

I said I haven't seen Cousins play

but considering you haven’t even heard of the long named player…maybe we’re in the same boat

by DaGribb on Feb 5, 2010 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

I would cringe if we wound up with Aminu

I go to Wake Forest, so I watch Aminu all the time. He is definitely not worthy of a Top-5 pick in my opinion. He scores all his points on put-backs and alley-oops. They run plays for him, and he just fumbles the ball out of bounds, or throws up a bad shot. He has no skill. He is just tall and athletic. There is nothing that he does particularly well. His defensive positioning is terrible, and he has no bulk in his lower body, so he can’t handle someone backing him in. The blocks he gets are blocks that all 6-11 college players should block.

Aminu is like a 5th grader who spent an entire year playing basketball with 1st graders. He dominates by getting all the rebounders, making nothing but layups, and blocking all their shots, but he does not improve at all.

I will say this though, he seems like a great guy. I never read or hear anything bad about him, and I know the coach absolutely loves him.

by John Park Williams on Jan 31, 2010 12:07 PM EST reply actions

Based on watching at least half his college games, I disagree

We touched on this before, so I won’t repeat everything I said. I haven’t evaluated the other players enough to say for sure I’d take him top 5, but I heartily disagree that Aminu has no skill, and really can’t see how you can argue that he doesn’t improve (see his scoring, rebounding, steals and 3pt% in roughly the same minutes this year vs last).
We’ll just have to follow this and see which of us is right.

by steadyhand on Feb 1, 2010 4:56 PM EST up reply actions

I know that

this is a homer pick, but I would love to end up with Greg Monroe. Don’t get me wrong, I realize he is not the best player in the draft. But, truthfully, I kind of expect us to land around 4-6. What I’d REALLY love is to end up with 2 top 10 picks. Anyway, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a Georgetown player, and never one of their stars. I think Monroe is gonna be an excellent player in the NBA, and it would be nice to have a homegrown superstar. For those of you that say he’s not the best big man out there we, that may be true. But I GUARANTEE he will get the most help in becoming the best, what with the long history of Georgetown big men getting together to help the “next generation.”

by CJHutch on Feb 1, 2010 8:45 AM EST reply actions

I like him a lot, too

He reminds me of a slightly better Andray Blatche, which is actually about what you want from a late lottery pick. If we could move some of our guys for the another lottery pick, I’d love to get him.

by pantslessyoda1 on Feb 1, 2010 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

mmm I don't see the Blatche comparison

maybe b/c they’re both above average passers? Monroe has been considered soft, but he plays tough everytime I’ve watched him.

by DaGribb on Feb 5, 2010 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Boris Diaw's third year he averaged

13.3pts, 6.9 rbs, and 6.2 asts while shooting 52%. If we can just have that seasons production every year then I’d be happy with Monroe as a Wizard. I do think Monroe is better offensively then Diaw and a better rebounder. So definitely a higher ceiling imo.

by DaGribb on Feb 5, 2010 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

I'm going with the best player available

Our only young guy who seems like someone you’d want to play a large part in a rebuilding effort is McGee, and he can just as easily slide to power forward if we get Aldrich. Our other young guys – Blatche, McGuire, Young, and to a lesser extent Foye – are all mediocre at best and are maybe good enough to be rotation players on a good team, but not by any means good enough to start.

by pantslessyoda1 on Feb 1, 2010 12:16 PM EST reply actions

you could be right

but I really wonder if we’re putting a little too much faith in McGee. Not many “building blocks” fail to crack the rotation on such an awful team. I remember getting lambasted on here for saying I’d “settle” for McGee turning into the next Marcus Camby. Now I’m hoping that’s not a REACH. Hell, right now I’d settle for the next Tyson Chandler.

Either way, the only true way for us to tell if ANY of these players can be a part of the rebuilding effort is for them to get minutes. Which is why the trade deadline can’t come soon enough for me. Like I’ve said (countless times, I know), if we’r egonna lose, I’d rather watch the young guns running up and down the court than watch the vets plod around, grounding the offense to a halt.

by Rook6980 on Feb 1, 2010 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

agreed

I am not counting McGee as a building block.

by John Park Williams on Feb 1, 2010 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

How about DeMarcus Cousins?

He should be able to give us a low post scorer and physical presence, and his relative lack of shotblocking could be compensated for by playing Javale at the 4. We could then get a swingman in the 2011 draft and either sign or trade for a point guard.

by pantslessyoda1 on Feb 11, 2010 9:18 AM EST reply actions

lol

mcgee at the 4. haha. I do like demarcus cousins though.
