Gil's father seems like a good guy, but he's also an enabler.
How the f*ck can either be upset because someone from the franchise “leaked”, i.e., didn’t help “cover up” the incident?
I’m betting that crappy record or not, the story still comes out.
Even though Vescey was still mostly wrong, I think Bookie Ball talks regardless. What could the Wiz or anyone else have done about that?
Nothing.
Arenas effed himself and the franchise and has yet to completely man up. He still wants to point fingers at the media and the team. Eff him.

Your interpretation may be right. But I read it as Gil Sr. saying that someone from the franchise leaked the inaccurate and more violent version of Gil and Javaris pulling guns on each other. Gil is of course mostly responsible for everything here, but IF he has a legitimate complaint about anything, it’s that the inaccurate Vescey story really caused the huge, societal outcry that sucked Gilbert down with it. That’s not fair, but then again, when you play with fire, sometimes you get burned.
Meh
It’s his father on a public radio show. What’s the point of publicly stating you’ve frowned on your son’s behavior, particularly when Arenas has abandonment issues?
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
I'm OK
with what his dad says. Truthfully, that’s how I felt at the beginning of the whole thing. I understand it’s illegal, and I’m not condoning it in any way. But, 9 times out of 10, this story never makes it into the public. The reason I say that is because I work in DC, and I’ve had a buddy flash a gun that he kept in his car. That’s a felony, right? We all knew it. But it was inside our locker room, and nobody outside of it ever knew. It was truly a non-incident. The only reason I even remembered it was because of this story.
Now, all that said, I do think Arenas deserved what he got. He made way too much light of the situation from the beginning. Once people outside of the locker room knew what happened, he should’ve realized how serious this was. His continued assertion that he “didn’t do anything wrong” was ridiculous. It was lying just for the sake of lying. He HAD to know that the truth would come out eventually. This Pete Rose mentality is what irritates me the most about these athletes today.
Great Link
Thank you for this. I agree with everything Gil’s dad said. It’s exactly how I feel. This still gives me hope that Gil might still play for us. We aren’t going to get much out of this situation we are in. I love Gil – he’s a fabulous player – and I don’t think we’d get anyone better than Arenas to come play here next season, given all the circumstances. This ship be sinking? It’s sunk. We won’t be able to trade Gil for anyone that’s worth trading him for. Toxic asset right now. We don’t need a toxic asset relief program – we just need for people to get over themselves and get back to playing ball.
My swag was phenomenal.
