It is time for a change.

It is time for change with the basketball team in DC. why you might ask why we need change because this team is at a crossroads right now. The team has 14 wins and dropping fast in the race for a spot in the Eastern Confrence playoffs. they have dropped their last two games against the LA Clippers on sunday afternoon and against the Miami Heat last friday night where team dd not show up at all. We should trade either Butler to the Rockets for Tracy McGrady's expiring contract which will give us some cap room for the summer of 2010.

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

We don't need cap space in 2010

We are not signing LBJ, Wade, Bosh, or Amare, so cap space this summer does not do any good (other than saving the Pollins/Leonsis $11 Million, assuming we don’t spend it).

I used to be in the “trade Butler” camp, but since we are losing with him, we might as well keep losing with him, and then trade him next year when he is an expiring contract.

I would like to explore getting one of the Grizzlies first round picks for Brendan Haywood. It would be the Nuggets’ pick in the late 20’s, but its better than just losing Haywood outright. Other people on here feel like we can somehow pry Rodrique Bourbouis away from Dallas, but I don’t see any chance of that happening.

So, yes, we need change. But more importantly, we just need patience. Don’t throw cap space at anyone not named LeBron or Wade, and don’t win any more than we have to.

Amare

If we can create enough cap space for the summer of 2010, we should let brendan haywood walk and focus on trying to bring Amare Stoudamire to the capital.
we have a lot of contracts expiring at the end of the season which should give us a lot of flexibility, i think, to get it done.

Stoudamire, just like every other FA out there

wants to go to a winning team, or at least a team that has the pieces to become a winning team.

To create Cap space to sign a big name Free Agent – The Wizards would have to either:

Trade BOTH Butler AND Jamison –
OR
Void Arenas’ contract AND trade ONE of Butler or Jamison….

Either way, the team is gutted of any real talent – and any big name Free Agent out there will avoid Washington like the plague.

draft

This team needs to be blown up and built over from scratch. There is no free agent out there who can rescue it. We need to build from the ground up. It is frustrating, but we won’t be winning anything for a few years, at best. So forget about cap space. We should trade everything tradeable for draft picks and young players, i.e., 25 and under. Yes, we’ll never become an elite team without some veteran presence, but that’s for down the road (if we are lucky). First put together a nucleus of good young players, then leaven it with one or two veterans via trade or free agency.
The only question is can Ernie do it. I used to be a big believer, and I like the way he carries himself. But if you believe that results speak for themselves, then they don’t say much on his behalf. You can’t blame him for Gilbert’s shenanigans. But we’ve managed to put together a bunch that is both bad and old. Ugghh. Once we get a new owner, question number one is whether we need a new GM.
