Thoughts on the Nets moving Devin Harris, and if so, what will it take to get him?
Chad Ford (1:25 PM)As I've been writing for the past 2 weeks, he's available. The question is ... for what? The Nets are going to want something serious back in return. One idea I've heard floating around is Caron Butler for Harris.
Chad Ford chat. Hmm...

Ooh…
Harris, (SG goes here), Miller, Jamison, Haywood?
That actually might not be totally uncompetitive. Harris doesn’t strike me as a high maintenance player either. I like it.
I just worry about his contract
It’s long (four more years), and you have to wonder why a team like NJ who needs some semblance of talent is seemingly trying to get rid of him.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
I worry about his health
He’s been known to get injured pretty quickly, and that’s the opposite of what DC needs.

True
I’d guess they want to get rid of the years more than the player. Butler’s done after next, right?
I get that
But what happens if they don’t get the top pick. This draft is very PG weak.
Maybe this trade makes more sense after NJ gets the #1 pick.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
His contract can't be too big of a concern
It’s really reasonable and it even goes down in the final year. He is a pretty good bargain at ~9m/yr.
Would you rather have Harris at ~9m/yr for the next 3 years or Ben Gordon at 11.5m/yr for 5 years? I know that isn’t the fairest comparison to draw, but still.
The concern has to be his health and his shooting.

That (SG goes here) is only thing that worries me
Contract, injury, both valid concerns about Harris; would Harris be worth voiding Arenas? But Miller, this season, has been injured every other week. I’m sure Miller will be able to fill in either the SG or SF fine if he can stay healthy for longer than a month, but the Wizards haven’t found an answer for their starting SG since what seems like Day 1 of the season.
I don't think the Wizards would be thinking about this season too much with any trade
This season is basically lost anyway. They can’t say so publicly, but they’ve got to be kidding themselves if they believe it privately.
Besides, if you’re really concerned, slide Foye back over.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
It’s crazy, but I still can’t deal with the thought of the team being broken up. I almost want the flawed one that isn’t better than a fifth seed in the freaking east.
I will wish the talent
but they need to get younger. I wish we hadn’t burned our bridge with Arenas too.
Foye is def on a stride
I only wish Stevenson could turn back the clock on that back and get some 20 point games of his own from starting SG, however, even if he could, he probably won’t get the looks when Butler, AJ, and now Foye are the “Big 3.”
A young backcourt of Foye and Harris does sound promising the more I think about it.
Another random thought, the way Haywood is playing this season, it’s a real shame the team doesn’t have a great point guard like Steve Nash to elevate his play.
Harris would be great
He can play either guard position and, most importantly, guard either guard position. I think he’d be good in the backcourt with Foye. Miller is for our purposes better than Caron right now, too, although I could see the reasoning behind giving Dom heavy minutes if we trade Caron (since it can’t be good to have both of your forwards kind of suck on d) and bring MM off the bench.

Nets don't want Caron
Not when they are still hoping to get LeBron.
Making this trade saves them money long-term
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Plus, are they really going to trade him for just an expirer?
The trade makes sense for both teams. The only thing that puzzles me about it from the Nets’ point of view is that Harris plays the only position that they couldn’t sign a marquee free agent to play. I think it’s more likely that this would go down after the draft, since neither team really has much to gain from doing it now vs in June.
