GunGate - Its Getting Worse
From Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports.
Editor's Note: There's also this report from Peter Vescey, which if true, is not good...at all.
On the bright side, he gave up on getting a million followers and started tweeting last night, if you can call that a bright side. For more coverage on this story, check out the Bog -Jake

AND
This report says that Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton pulled guns on each other in the Locker room on Christmas eve in an argument over a gambling debt
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Ouch!
Just saw this comment on the Bog:
Judging by the way they’ve been shooting on the court, was anybody really in danger?

Hard to believe
…that the organization didn’t immediately suspend these guys. Unless the Wiz legal staff is as bad as the medical staff, these actions – if true — will enable the Wiz to void the contracts.
yeah
Right now I have a hard time believing the truth. First of all, the Post article was written by Peter Vecsey, who is an attention hound all on his own. Maybe it’s true, maybe it isn’t. But I’ll wait until a legitimate reporter reports on it before taking much stock.
No to mention
that Vecsey’s main source for his article seems to be Crittenton’s friend, who’s going to portray it a certain way. This isn’t good, but I think it still remains to be seen how bad it is.
Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.
Pulling guns on each other in the locker room?
Forget the awful play on the court — the Wizards have reached a new low (allegedly).
Yeah - really
If Abe and Wes Unseld were still in charge, they’d be trading Arenas for Mitch Richmond any day now……

sometimes
it’s worth it.
i still remember ric bucher’s scathing article – his last one before he left the post i believe – on webber’s history of transgressions and why the wizards dumped him. F webber.
there is a big difference between dumping someone for 10 cents on the dollar and sending him to nba siberia because they can’t play defense as opposed to, say, pulling a gun on a teammate.
if this is true, i’ll respect anything the wizards do other than sweeping it under the rug and saying “nothing to see here”.
but it might be real hard to trade the guy, even for 10 cents on the dollar, if that tmac report is true.
this makes andray blatche’s issues look like nothing. then again, i was just advocating that the team suspend blatche for a few weeks. if this is true… wowsers. gotta send a strong message here. very strong.

it was a while back
the hooker thing. and the repeatedly driving on a suspended license thing.
getting shot wasn’t a banner day for blatche either.
man. i hate guns.

Arenas and Crittenton have to go...
I don’t care if he has a 111 million dollar contract, Arenas would be the first on the trading block and Crittenton would be released. I am glad Abe isn’t around since this would break his heart.

This is the most outrageously embarassing story ever
Can it possibly be true? And how could a millionaire be so stupid as to do something like this? I mean, I’ve seen some knuckleheads go through DC in my time, but this really takes the cake. You are a real punk if you need to hide behind a gun. I think that whole Shaq thing has made him lose his god damn mind! If Critter brought that shit in my face, I’d just pull the wad of cash out of my pocket and throw it in his face. Critter pulled a gun? This can’t be true. It just makes no sense at all. Time to break out that Kubla Ross model again.
It's the Post
They thrive on sensationalism… No way I believe that crap. I do, however, think that Gil is gonna get more than just a slap on the wrist. Used to be that posession of a firearm in DC was a mandatory 5 years. Not sure if (or to what extent) that has changed since the recent gun law changes.

Yep, it's the Post
And they DO thrive on sensationalism. I’m sure we’ll learn more, but I’m not going to judge anything or anyone based soley on anything the New York Post prints.

I agree to an extent
I don’t doubt that the NY Post sensationalized part of the story, but like satchmore said, there are multiple sources, including an additional report from Yahoo, confirming that something happened. Maybe it wasn’t a duel at the OK Corral in there and it might not have even been mean-spirited, but something went down. And I don’t think this story is going to blow over until we have a much better idea of what happened.

It sounds made up.
And I don’t trust Vecsey. But – the article is quoting multiple sources: Crittenton’s friend, security people, and “a league source close to the Wizards”. It seems unlikely that all those people got it wrong. And I can easily imagine Arenas welshing on a bet and using outrageously bad judgment, and I can see Crittenton, who makes a fraction of Arenas’ salary, getting really upset about money.
If the allegations are true, I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to root for Gilbert Arenas again. And he’s one of my favorite players.
Well
I guess now there is NO WAY we will ever go back to the name The Bullets.
Interesting
According to Mike Jones new blog, talking about Arenas:
Should he be convicted and receive prison time, he likely would have his contract voided because every NBA player has a clause in their deal that allows the team to void a contract over breech of contract.
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
if ths is true
breech of contract seems warranted. can you really root for a guy that does this? can you take your kids to watch him play? not any time soon i don’t think.

I doubt they need a conviction to void his contract.
Some legal nit-picking here: if they need a conviction to void his contract, then that means that they can’t void it unless the allegations are proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. That’s a remarkably difficult thing to prove, even in easy cases. When a defendant has the resources of Gilbert Arenas, it’s even harder.
If they can void a contract for engaging in dangerous activities (driving a motorcycle, etc.), I don’t see why they couldn’t void his contract based on reasonable assurances (a preponderance of the evidence) that this actually occurred. Is a copy of Arenas’ contract publicly available?
Bullets Forever
Your source for expert legal advice!
You are probably right
The Wizards probably don’t NEED a conviction to void Arenas’ contract – however, the Player’s Association will put up a huge fight….
Remember that Monta Ellis could have been voided because of his dangerous off-court activities (riding a moped) -but he wasn’t…. Also I seem to remember Stephen Jackson getting in trouble in a bar fight (shots fired?), but no action by the team to void his contract.
So even though teams have had the chance to void contracts – they usually don’t. Probably because of the potential legal hassle from the Player’s Association… and does the team (and the League) really want to draw the line in the sand here, for this player?
On the other hand, if a player were actually convicted of a crime; not only does that provide the evidence needed to void the contract – it provides the reason as well (ie: the player will be unable to perform from jail, etc…)…..
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
You are probably right
Although I think they’d be at least as concerned about the expense and publicity of a contract dispute as they would be about the players’ union. The likelihood of a conviction, though, is very low, even if they have good evidence. Were there ever any convictions arising from the brawl at the Palace at Auburn Hills? I can’t remember, but I don’t think there were. And that was all on tape.
nice of you to copy cut and paste and article
and make it your own.

Okay we are totally finished
We should trade the entire team except JaVale.
