Chandler on the Block Again

CNNSI Truth & Rumors says Tyson Chandler is on the block for a backup Power Forward. Remember folks, this is Michael Jordan the GM we're talking about. Could we swing something involving Blatche and Critter for Tyson? Him and JaVale would be rockin a lot of alley oops!

From T&R:

Some things I wouldn't be surprised happen between now and the start of Bobcats training camp: A trade of one of the centers for a forward: It's going to be tough to distribute minutes between Tyson Chandler, Gana Diop and Nazr Mohammed. The Bobcats obviously need a reliable backup power forward. I think there have been some discussions and Golden State and Dallas seem logical trade partners. I don't expect Juwan Howard to be back as a Bobcat. I hear there's a good chance of him ending up in Portland, a better bet for the playoffs.

I can't believe they'd trade Chandler just for a backup

I mean, I believe it’ll happen, but I can’t believe MJ’s that dumb. Like, if you have Tyson Chandler on your team, you don’t even have to worry any more about guarding, well, any big man in the league. Pretty much any team that could run into Dwight Howard, Shaq, or Gasol in the playoffs next year could use him. Dallas would make sense, since Chandler does everything Dampier does but better, plus he’s younger. Cleveland could use him, too, since they really could use someone who can guard Dwight Howard. Detroit would be a good fit for him, although I doubt he’d really put them over the top.

Also, who’s going to play center on the Bobcats next year? Are they just hoping to draft the next Dwight Howard, Oden, or Okafor next year?

They aren't going to trade Chandler

There’s no rumor here, just stuff from Rick Bonnell’s head.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Why?

If Chandler’s healthy, sure, but until Chandler proves he can stay healthy, I wouldn’t trade Haywood for Chandler straight up.

I think you're agreeing with me, aren't you?

I said Chandler PLUS a first round pick would be equal to Haywood. I was disagreeing with Haywood plus a second rounder being equal to Chandler

u really think brendan haywood is a better rebounder/defender than Tyson?…if you do, i think you are crazy. the wiz have always been soft inside, and brendan has always had to fight for minutes with ETAN THOMAS.

He's better than a injured Tyson Chandler

And he’s about the same as a healthy Tyson Chandler. I don’t think you’re going to want to go down this avenue, to be honest.

This argument has taken place way too many times on this site already. I’ll say for the record that I am of the opinion that Haywood is far better than Chandler. And I’m out.

I'll say that Haywood is on par with Chandler defensively

Offensively, there’s no contest… Even though Haywood doesn’t exactly light it up on Offense, he’s still light years ahead of Chandler.

Oh and one more thing. Defense is not just about the spectacular block, or snagging that one-handed rebound..
It’s more about communication, movement, rotation, altering shots, positioning, and a lot of other little things that
don’t show up in statistics; all of which Haywood excels at.

But so does Chandler

Chandler doesn’t block a lot of shots, but he’s so solid as a man defender and he’s a better rebounder. He positions himself well and is the quarterback of a better defensive unit than the Wizards were.

That’s a healthy Chandler, mind you, but Chandler’s as much of a underrated defender as Haywood.

quarterback of a better defensive unit than the Wizards were.

Yeah – but Chandler had Chris Paul (instead of porous Gilbert Arenas) as the PG (2008 All Defensive First team , 2007 All Defensive Second Team) and David West at PF (instead of all Defensive Worst team Antawn Jamison). Although David West is no defensive stopper, he’s at least passable. Mo Peterson, James Posey and Rasual Butler are all better defenders than any corresponding Wizard’s players…

In short, Haywood was playing defense by himself… While Chandler was playing with teammates that at least tried to play defense.

Chandler may be underrated as a defender, and he may do all the “little things” on defense…. but I’d still take Haywood…. even just based on defense (leaving out the fact that Haywood can hit the occasional shot, without having to have it fed to him at the rim)….

The actual rumor is a trade of “one of the centers for a forward”.

They just traded FOR Chandler – so the obvious implication here is that they would want to trade Diop or Mohammed for a PF.

Diop is a very good defensive Center, but a disaster on Offense… and Mohammed is just the opposite. Both are overpaid. Not worth giving up Blatche for either of them….(keep in mind, you’d have to add in another piece – - – to make the salaries match)….

There's no actual rumor

It’s just something Rick Bonnell said that was unsourced. Nothing to see here, move along.

Actually

Rumor or not – a trade of one of their Centers for a PF makes sense for Charlotte…

They have 3 Centers; but their depth at PF is, well, ………………..non-existant.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Charlotte is actually shopping Mohammed or Diop for a PF…..

Good luck getting anything of value for those contracts

Charlotte should have thought of that before they traded for both those guys.

Diop could be useful…. and at $6 Million, only slightly over paid (for a Center).

Charlotte just needs to find a team that needs a back-up Center, and has a plethora of PF’s… Like maybe, Houston or Dallas.

Diop's under contract until 2012/13

One of the teams that doesn’t care about money (Dallas) salary dumped him, even though they now have only one true center. He’s not going anywhere unless someone gets really desperate.

The level of discourse here is generally higher than you are demonstrating.

I suggest you shoot a little higher. Your input will be welcome.
