Editor's Note: Interesting Caron Q&A from the official site. I thought he cut out soda already when he stopped drinking Mountain Dew, but apparently not. -Mike

Great News

As he gets older, eating healthy becomes more and more important. Its always a great sign when your stars are also you hardest workers (not that this is new news, just always nice to read)

I actually worry sometimes that Butler works too hard

He barely took a break, which is great on one level, but maybe not so good when he always breaks down and misses 15-20 games a year.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Thats a great point

There is definitely a balance. I would think he has trainers monitoring his work load and not over working him. Also working on low impact exercises (e.g. pool work, olyptical), but you never know.

Either way, eating healthy can only help, and soda is one of the least healthy foods/drinks available.

Sugar decreases bone density and bone strength though...

and will tend to increase fatigue related injury, etc. So Caron cutting his sugar/caffeine intake may save him that yearly trip to the bench due to a freak injury/broken bone etc.

Not sure an extra month in the Virgin Islands helps more than tuning up his body and hiring a nutritionist and personal trainer. Actually more players get injured falling out of shape then trying to re-tool. If Caron shows this kind of dedication, treating his body right etc, seems to me there’s a spillover effect on the young pups on the team. Or leastways there ought to be.

Me I’m not complaining. All good things. Especially if by working himself into lean flexible shape and improved quicks, he develops the footspeed to play that top of the key defensive Point position that Flip needs to run his defense the way he likes. Caron is smart enough, savvy, with the hands and reach to take the role, he just needs the shuffle-speed in his feet and stance. Needs his feet to keep up with his ability to see the play.

Yep cutting soda out is a good move -

Especially some soda like coke which can peel varnish off the floor. Can’t imagine that being too good for the body.

I've had the same experience cutting out soda

It helped me lose weight and I honestly think I sleep better as well.

Now if he would only stop chewing those straws

I worry about him choking, or just suffering the effects of chewing, breaking down and injesting plastic. Little known fact, but plastic is NOT one of the major food groups.

Amusing how he remembers the exact day he stopped drinking soda, like he was an alcoholic in a 12 step program.

I worry about the tattoos

Health monitoring of tattoo parlors is less than perfect, and he could get an infection, or soreness on his shooting arm.

Caron to Chicago

“Caron Butler told Mike Jones of the Washington Times that he plans on working out with Arenas and trainer Tim Grover in Chicago when he returns from Asia. Butler added that he resisted Saunders’s invitation to attend Vikings training camp in Minnesota because he’s a Redskins fan (After growing up 75 miles from Chicago? Or 140 miles from Green Bay? No Bears or Packers? Oh well.). Butler has also lost about 12 pounds after an offseason program that included the elimination of Mountain Dew.”

Love that Caron is won’t attend Vikings camp because hes such a big skins fan.
Also love that hes going to get some time with Grover and Arenas in Chicago.
