Hawks - Wizards
While most of us think the wiz will be better than the hawks this year, a lot of people are saying we will be competing for 4-5 slot. As a last big man who do you think did better for their needs. Wizards with Oberto or the Hawks with Joe Smith.
A Guard?
I think Washington got exactly what they needed. A low-usage guy that can come in and give them 12-15 minutes a game at either PF or Center… A big guy (at 245 pounds) that’s not afraid to throw his body around. An adequate defender that can grab some rebounds.. He’s a low turn over, low risk, high Basketball IQ player. He’ll keep the ball moving, and get you some assists (20% assist ratio in 2008)…
Smith (225 pounds) is much less bulky than Oberto. He a pretty good jump shooter for a big man, but he doesn’t have any low-post game to speak of. And he’s mostly a PF.
Given the fact that the Wizards needed a backup big that could play Center – they chose the right guy. And if McGee doesn’t progress as anticipated; and/or if Blatche has trouble – Oberto could step up and play 20 mpg….
Smith will be steady for the Hawks… but he won’t get much playing time behind Josh Smith and Pachulia
