wizards trade idea pt 2

since i failed (miserably, i might add) at the 1st trade idea, let's see if i can do a little bit better this time...

Star-divide

the wizards send jamison, haywood and crittenton to the hawks for j.smith and horford

now the reasoning behind this trade....1st off, smith can defend 3 (maybe 4) positions on the court. his defensive abilities would work well with our offensive-minded group; jamison isnt the best defender. now while smith will shoot, he is pretty efficient with the shots that he takes. also he can grab boards. horford and haywood (in my mind) is a pretty even trade-off. they both will get u a dbl-dbl and play solid defense. the thing with horford that i dont see (all the time...i repeat ALL) with haywood is the all-out effort and the hustle. and haywood's health isnt necessarily a sure thing....so there you have it, BF!!! lets see how you guys feel about this one!!!

Actually, scratch that, they do

Basically, it’s our frontcourt for Atlanta’s frontcourt. I don’t really like it because Smith can’t shoot, which makes him a bad fit for this roster.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Really Mike? I would love that trade but it would never happen Smith and Horford are both young talented players and Haywood and Jamison are in their prime.

I dont think they would do it

and I would’nt want Washington to do it. From what I’ve seen Josh Smith cant shoot but loves taking jumpshots and just makes bad decisions on offense a lot of times so he is not a good fit for our offense. He is sort of like Blatche but on a larger scale. Atlanta would’nt give up Horford and his game doesnt really do much for me anyway and im not worried about Haywood’s health at all.

What Josh Smith is good at, and what he actually does - are two different things

Josh Smith likes to shoot jumpers (long jumpers) – but he’s not very good at that. Actually, I take that back…… he’s terrible. He shoots around 30% on long 2’s and he’s a career 27% 3-point shooter. More than 47% of his shots last year were Jumpers and his eFG% on those shots was only about 35%

What Josh Smith is very good at is defending the low post, blocking shots, taking it strong to the hoop, low post scoring, Offensive rebounding, and finishing on the break… Unfortunately, he thinks he’s Ray Allen…. and rarely does any of those things.

All in all- I’d rather keep Jamison and Haywood….

I don't really see the benefit of "break up the core" trade ideas at this point

I know we’re just chatting here, but it’s just not happening so why speculate? If you have spare time I’d think about more realistic trades involving James, Young, Stevenson.

Meh

It’s the offseason. I hear you though.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Hate the idea....

Once again someone wants to trade away an allstar for someone who can jump. Once Al Horford and Josh Smith leave the “core” of the Hawks, they will both be journey men in this league. You want to trade away the anchor of your defense, the captain of your team, and a kid with enormous potential (or trade value) for a guy that can run and jump with little basketball IQ and al horford who is drastically overrated.

I would love to see Josh Smith in a Wizards jersey...

…but I don’t think this puts us any closer to contention. Haywood wouldn’t even be mentioned in trades if he played last season and is a major piece of why we were able to make the playoffs the first year arenas was out. As for trading Jamison and crittenton, first that’s a little to much to give up. Second, we give up scoring for defense so less points per game for one defensive player….I’d see it if it wasn’t are lead scorer the past 2 seasons but it doesn’t really make sense to me.

I would hate to see Josh Smith in a Wizards jersey

Yea the dramatic blocks and dunks are nice but it was almost painful to watch him jack up and brick all of those long jumpers last year in the playoffs against Cleveland. Unless he had some work done to establish a basketball IQ in his brain this off-season, I don’t want him.

Agreed lj15

Don’t we already have our fair share of players trying to improve their basketball IQ? (Blatche, Young, McGee, and Critt all come to mind)…. The last thing the Wizards need is a starter making poor decisions.

JOSH SMITH IS YOUNG

Him and Horford would be awesome. Its stupid crazy how many people dont like this trade.

Horford for Haywood would not be so bad for the Wizards …. It would give the Wizards a younger (although slightly less intimidating) center…. with some upside… I’d still take Haywood (especially at his current salary) simply because he’s much better defensively than Horford… He blocks and alters more shots, and plays exceptional one-on-one AND help defense. Plus the fact that if you give Haywood (28 mpg) the minutes that Horford gets (33.5 mpg) , he would put up similar offensive numbers at a slightly better TS%.

On the other hand, what is “stupid crazy” is how many Atlanta fans either forget that Josh Smith plays like a 6’10" jump shooting guard, instead of a Power Forward…. or they forget how many times Smith makes poor decisions (long 2-point shots early in the shot clock, ill advised 3-pointers, etc…) that hurt his team.

Smith needs to stop taking jumpers (35% eFG% on jumpshots) and start doing the things that a 6-year veteran does. He is a poor jump shooter; so he should stop taking those shots. Take smart shots. Play smart defense. I suspect that after 5-years in the League, what we see from Josh Smith is what he’s going to continue to give… Exciting blocks and dunks. Poor positional defense. Poor shot selection, and questionable (at best) Basketball IQ.

If Smith would stick to driving to the basket, finishing on the break, and crashing the Offensive boards to get his points – work on his low post game, and use his quickness against the opponent PF’s – he would have already been an All-Star several times over.

But until he changes, his 15 ppg and 7 rpg are not worth Jamison’s smart, veteran savvy play – oh Yeah, and Jamison averages 22 ppg and 9 rpg
