I'm hopeful but I'll believe it when I see it-

I do like the fire burning as a result of being out last season and seeing the off season moves.

It seems

That most of the people on the team are motivated and feel that they have to prove that they deserve playing time. Training camp should be very interesting.

Yeah

Especially on the wing, where we’ve got McGuire and Stevenson playing for their NBA futures, Foye trying to keep his starting job, Miller playing for a contract, and Nick Young trying to crack the rotation after two years of getting sporadic minutes. That’s, what, five guys battling for a combined total of something like 65 minutes? We’re going to be having a lot of arguments about this subject come November.

No arguments from me....

Young deserves the bulk of those minutes…. :-)

Is it weird

that I’d actually prefer to just play a tight rotation of Young and a healthy Stevenson to one of Foye/Young/Miller/Stevenson? Like, maybe I’m verging too far off into homer territory, but I actually think Nick looks like he’ll be a decent, well-rounded player next year who can play with starters. He tries on defense, has the length and quickness to make up for some dumb mistakes, hits open shots, and his biggest weakness – his inability to create for other players and handle the ball like a combo guard – really isn’t that big a deal now that we’re not running the Princeton.

Really, I like Foye and Miller a lot, but I’d much rather make a trade for draft picks and maybe Carl Landry than watch a team that goes 12 deep. A five man shooting guard rotation is just…absurd, and I think that it’ll be counterproductive, almost like when people drink too much water and die.

A bang?

Since he been in the league for 8 years and not “a bang” has happened yet, then I doubt it will occur

Breaking: Pro Athlete Makes Optimistic Statement

Why is it news when an NBA player predicts that next year is going to be his year? Don’t they all?!

FYI I’m going to work out so frikkin hard this next year that I’ll get signed by the Wizards in the 2010 offseason. Get excited, I’m also promising to bring a championship to DC!
PS Somebody pass this on to Mike Lee so I can get a WaPo story during a slow news month.

hehe

maybe we ought to snatch up Starbury after all, he’s making similar statements about coming back strong and proving once and for all that he’s the best point guard in the league.

Actually, how would this line up do?

Marbury
Stevenson
TMac
Stromile Swift
Andrew Bynum
6th man – Steve Franchise

Instant championship if you believe what the guys are saying.

I hear that Isiah Thomas is avaliable to coach this unit...

The bench could be rounded out with Darius Miles and a resurgent Rainman.

But seriously folks, DSteve deserves his shot at redemption, and I expect the Wizards will give him the opportunity. If he can still play, then there will be a glut of talent at the 2-guard spot and, at that point it will be time to play “Let’s Make A Deal” again.

With everyone promising either a better effort or an mind-blowing comeback next season

at least some of the Wizards should be able to realistically deliver, right? I know at this point it’s all talk, but we really haven’t heard too many “I’m going to take time and rest up” stories.

Mature response

“Yo he aint had no bang yet”

I would love to see someone shoot a decent looking jumpshot with a herniated disc. If you knew or have known anyone who has had a back injury it is painful to get in, and out your car and makes walking up stairs a chore.

If your opinion of Stevensons position on our team is based upon last seasons performance that is unfair.

If you have been a fan of the Wizards prior to last season (and seasons before) you would know how Stevenson benefited our team. He brought alot of confidence, pride, grittyness, defense, perimeter shooting and energy we needed. He was the guy that when Caron and Jamison werent hitting shots would catch a shot on the left wing and nail a three, come back on the right wing and nail a three to put us in the lead. He is also the guy that would succesfully defend a potential game winner from Lebron or anyother player. You can count his stats from the season prior to last and say they are so-so but if you watched the two previous seasons before last year you would know he turned it on when needed and alot of time I recall was the reason we won games.

Im certainly not saying start the guy, but if he can get healthy and come off the bench and be that sparky (streaky) player he used to be hitting back to back threes, playing lock down defense and getting our team pumped up then we only benefit.

I have a strong feeling this is our year. The year everyone gets healthy, the year we no longer associate a ______ (rhymes with purse) with our team, and the year we can move deep in the playoffs as well as see what pieces we need to acquire and get ride of.

You have to give him SOME benefit of the doubt…

I’d be happy to see him return to his former self. He wasn’t a consistent shooter, but I LOVED him during those rare games when he was just ON. It was funny, and I want to see him play well.

He sucked this past year, and it truly was, primarily, due to his injury. It’s the only thing that makes sense. However, he won’t be any better than we remember him. But that’s okay. I wonder how he’ll handle severely limited minutes. He used to be our starter, and now we’re talking about Miller, Foye, and Young as guards.

Lets not forget

D-Steve disappeared in just about every playoff game I can think of, including after talking smack to LeBron. He has more to do in my book than just overcome an injury. He needs to play better. The video was funny though.

Business as usual

Between this article and the Insider Post, DeShawn set a world record for use of the word “I”.

Optimism is great, but he should realize that he is not the future here, but instead a role player who should be using his veteran status to help the locker room. Instead, he comes off (to me) as selfish and still thinking he’s a star.

a good debate to be having

a debate of depth rather than how to acquire depth

theres going to definitely be an odd man out or two, but considering gilbert should really only be playing 30 minutes a game or so, foye should log some minutes at pg, which could free up some minutes for deshawn/nick at sg

and if mike miller scoots up and eats up dom’s back up sf minutes, as well as a few sg minutes, deshawn and nick could also see more time
