Around SBN: Can Tebow Say No To Anything?

"Media reports suggest the signing is worth $42.2 million over six years. In his 42 starts, he increased his averages to 9.9 points on .542 shooting and 7.7 rebounds in 32.3 minutes per game."

Haywood is going to get plenty more than Varajeo. That’s why its important. btw, Varajeo is an elite defender who actually put up points in his starts.

Shaq usually makes everyone around him better -

I expect his scoring to go up somewhat.

I don't see this affecting our negotiations with Haywood

They’re very different types of big men (swingman vs. normal center, backup vs. center), and the economy and salary caps are going to be different then, and it’s two teams who prioritize and spend differently (I won’t pass judgment on that point right now though lol). They’re paying Varejao because he’s a known commodity to them and they like what they get out of him. That’s partly why we’ll pay Haywood, but also because of the fact that it’s hard to find a legit starting center. I think Haywood’s agent referencing this deal would be like Bynum’s agent referencing a deal to the Lakers that Andray Blatche got with the Wizards.

no

Haywood’s agent will start with the Bargnani contract, not Varajeo.

This deal feels like one of those that we’ll be calling a bad contract in a few years.

The reduced salary cap will help in that regard

If there isn’t a team that can sign another max player with LeBron the Posterized King may have no choice but to stay in Cleveland because it will probably be the only team that can put something around him that can challenge for the title.
