The Wiz will be paying just under $6 Million in luxury tax penalties
Obviously, we all knew that luxury tax penalties were coming, but now we finally have an official dollar amount.
Also, it's looking like whatever free agent the team brings in will have to be willing to sign for the bi-annual exemption ($1.99 million per year) so adjust your free agent dreams accordingly.

Not as bad as it looks
In the past four seasons, the Wizards have received 10.2 million dollars for staying under the luxury tax, have received 3.2 million dollars (Bill Walker and 2009 32nd) for draft picks, and drafted and stashed another 2nd rounder (Veremeenko). Thats savings of more than 13.5 million dollars over the past four years on sold draft picks and luxury tax distribution payments.
13.5-5.8=7.5, meaning that the Wizards could add 4 million dollars in salary for next season, plus the 4 million dollars in luxury tax incurred, and for the past four years Abe would have on balance paid less than half a million luxury tax, rather than 5.8 million
