NBA's Most Overrated Players
Among Charley Rosen's NBA's most overrated players are Gilbert Arenas, Kevin Garnett, and Chris Paul. His arguments for each player lacked any kind of depth. Rosen basically just made up a list of players he does'nt like and then named a few of their weaknesses and put a negative spin on things they do well. The same could be done for any NBA star.

Arenas
Gilbert Arenas
“He’s on this particular list because of his numerous forced shots, his inability to run an offense and his miserable lack of both on- and off-the-ball defense. Also, don’t forget the many times he’s choked in the deciding moments of playoff games. Arenas’ game is less than meets the eye.”
Dear Charley,
It is you who are the overrated blowhard. Wait, you have to be rated at all in order to be overrated. You are an idiot. Gilbert is a top five player in this league. He happened to sign a contract after a tough injury, and you call that overrated. I wonder if you watched any games where he was healthy.
Now go back to your lame-ass column nobody reads.
Yours,
Unselds

Rosen doesn't like Arenas, never has
Love how he talks about how Arenas chokes in the playoffs. Apparently, one time is enough to make a blanket statement on him. He must have forgotten the shot he hit to sink the Bulls, or the 40-foot three he hit in the same game he missed the free throws to tie the game.
His criticisms of the other players are similarly ridiculous. For example:
-Kevin Garnett is a frontrunner. Right.
-Chris Paul can’t go left. Come again?
-Carlos Boozer can’t run.
-Chris Bosh registers more turnovers than assists … except he hasn’t actually finished a season with more TOs than assists since 2005.
-Chris Paul’s defense consists of mostly steals, which only happen when his opponent messes up? Perhaps Paul causes them to mess up, ever considered that?
-Chris Paul can be easily doubled … so why couldn’t Dallas and San Antonio get away with that in the 08 playoffs?
-Paul’s opponents go to their favorite spot and shoot over him … when?
I wonder whether he has an editor that actually checks his stuff.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Someone needs to send a copy of that article to Gilbert
Knowing him, whatever negatives are said in the article, Gil will turn them around….
Maybe we’d see a Gilbert Arenas that takes NO forced shots (except at the end of the 24-second shot clock), runs a highly efficient Offense, and hits a ton of end-of quarter, end-of-half, and game-winning shots….
Hey, wait a minute – Isn’t that the Gilbert Arenas we saw in his last healthy season?

That's OK though
Charley Rosen completely discredited himself by including Kwame Brown in his " Most Underrated " list.
Yeah – A number 1 pick, that failed miserably in Washington, Los Angeles and now in Detroit…. sure, he’s underrated… (sarcasm key=On) Really good players (who are underrated) usually play 17 minutes a game… Head Coaches like to hide those underrated players on the bench for most of the game. ALL Underrated Centers have hands the size of an 8-year old girl. (sarcasm key=Off).
Only Kwame Brown could be so “underrated” , as to be overrated. Rosen has completely overrated Kwame Brown’s underrated -ness. (Cogitate on that for a while…. your head will start to spin)
So Rosen has said:
Garnett, Bosh and Chris Paul are all overrated, and Kwame Brown is underrated -
That would make a great punch line to a joke……..If I could just think of one…
I guess Charley Rosen is the joke…..

Charley Rosen's perfect team would be all swingmen with half the skills of Scottie Pippen

I actually agree about Kwame being underrated
But that’s mostly because he’s treated like he’s one of the worst players in the league. I actually do think he’s a decent rebounder and defender, and I would have been happy with us adding him instead of Oberto. I think that Kwame is so shat upon that people almost seem shocked anytime he doesn’t score points for the opposing team.

Would you be happy with him at $4 Million ?

For that price I’d take someone else, partly because of the history and partly because of the body type.

I probably would too because of the history
But I think Kwame’s worth 4 million to most teams.

Rasheed Wallace signed Boston – he will make $5.6 million next year
Zaza Pachulia signed a 4-year deal with Atlanta with a first year salary a little over $4 Million
Chris Andersen signed a contract with Denver – he will make $3.7 million next year
Rasho Nesterovic signed a 1-year deal with Toronto for $1.9 Million
Oberto signed a 1-year deal with the Wizards for $1.9 million
And you think Kwame Brown is worth $4 Million?

Sure
There are way worse players on worse contracts. Just because some guys got crazy bargains doesn’t mean Kwame isn’t worth 4 million.

There are way worse players on worse contracts.
Agreed (Edy Curry, cough, cough) – but that doesn’t mean that I would want them on my team….!
And please - Kwame Brown is not worth $4 Million…. $4 Million is 69% of the Mid-Level exception (Average salary in the League)… Kwame Brown is NOT 69% as good as the average player in the League.
League average PER is 15 – Kwame’s PER last year was 11.57 (77% of the League Average) – OOPS , you’re right… according to my calculations, Kwame Brown is an underpaid, underrated, underachiever…..

Kwame's above-average on defense
His on/off numbers in Detroit and in LA in 06/07 are pretty solid. Teams always rebound better with him on the court.
It goes beyond PER and you know it.

Well
I did say you’re right…. (about Kwame Brown being worth $4Million – what a crazy financial situation huh?)
And if I’m going to try to use on/off stats to show that the Wizards rebound better with Haywood on the court than with him off… then I guess it’s only fair that you use those exact same stats for your Kwame Brown argument…
I still don’t think Kwame Brown is underrated…..
But it all goes back to Charley Rosen’s two articles….. and I doubt you agree with Charley – on either one….

W..ww.....Whatt!
Kwame? We talkin about the same Kwame former #1 pick by the best player in history and 1st #1 straight out of H.S. , 50% free throw, mental lapses, injured or fakes injury 50% of the time, built like superman and sometimes shows he knows how to play Kwame?
