But more than that, the Thunder has brought in the type of player it lacked — a tough-minded, physical presence who rebounds, defends and blocks shots like his career depends on it.

Had to show you guys this one
Tough-minded? If you mean he tried to punch Brenden
Physical? He’s been injured so much that he’s rarely “physically” in the game
Rebounder? Yeah, maybe.
Defends? Um, no.
Blocks Shots? Occasionally.
Like his career depends on it? Poetry matters more.

Sorry to disagree
but I’d say that describes Etan when he was healthy

Basketball wasn’t primary for Etan even before he had open heart surgery. He’s one year away from the rest of his life.
I don’t expect any contract year heroics from him, lets put it that way.

Etan couldn't defend
With Unselds on this one.

Either his career ... or life ...
One thing we can’t knock Etan on, is his heart.

I can't knock Etan
He gave us some good years. Probably played above his skill set. Was a gem in the community and made the entire Wizards team sound super smart whenever he opened his mouth.
I wish him well. Hope he makes some money and hope he lands a career post NBA.

I think most Wizard fans would agree
It doesn’t take much to please us. Just play hard. Weren’t Terry Davis and Darvin Ham fan favorites because of their hustle. We’ve had a lot of bums, and we’re smart. If you play hard, we’ll back you.

Terry Davis
was a beast. He will forever live in the annals of Wizards lore as the first player ever to score a bucket at the “Phone Booth”. Plus, he brought us Ben Wallace. (Or was it the other way around?)

No you are right.
Terry Davis first and he helped bring in Wallace.

I hated on him
but I wasn’t paying attention when walking around at a Mos Def show once and ran into him and it kinda knocked the wind out of me so I think he got the last laugh. I think it is fair to say Wiz fans didn’t hate Etan they hated his contract. Also when him and Haywood got in that fight and Haywood pulled one of his dreads out I was bagging on Haywood for weeks so I’m glad he gave us that as well.

Amusing...
…Etan does block shots and rebound reasonably well. Defense? Not so much. But Etan definitely leads the league in violently tearing down uncontested rebounds. And probably in shaking the rim after a wide-open dunk. Those things show toughness.

The sight of his dreads violently shaking after every rebound and almost hitting teammates in the face is something unforgettable.

And don't forget...
He was instrumental in improving Haywood’s on/off differentials.
