According to Mike Lee. No official word on whether he took the LLE or the vets minimum, but I'd assume the former.

EDIT: Unselds posted this first, so sorry for not seeing your FanShot and bumping it.

Im satisfied

Hes just a slightly taller, slightly better rebounding, slightly older Songaila without the jumphot.

Only problem is that theres not gonna be a lot to talk about between now and the start of the season.

Don't worry, we'll take care of that

We always have plenty of content during the offseasons that we haven’t unleashed yet.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Good

Im interested in seeing what you guys have in store.

For one, finishing our player evaluations

For another, we usually run a gimmick series during August/September. One year, it was counting down the top 20 Bullets/Wizards of all time. Last year, it was user writeups on some of the curiosity-type players in our history (Ledell Eackles, Robert Pack, Jim McIlvane).

Not sure what this year’s topic is yet but we’ll take suggestions.

Any chance for a "where are they now" series?

You could feature all of the 9th-15th men on our HORRIBLE late 80s early 90s teams and see what happened to them after Les Bullets.

Probably hard to do, but I for one would find it entertaining.

Sort of seems like what we did last year

But that’s an interesting thought. I’ll put a thread for suggestions out in the FanPosts later tonight so we can have that discussion there.

a couple of ideas for posts in August

These aren’t Wizards-centric, but more basketball-centric:
- A post asking people to post their best basketball memories. Perhaps break them down into two posts — one concerning memories of the poster’s playing days, and the other when the poster was a fan.
- A post asking people to name their favorite basketball team of all time, and why.

Some ideas

-suggestions for prospective big man coaches
-fanposts tracking the summer workouts/rehabbing/health/progress of each of the Wiz players esp. McGee, Blatche, Gil, B’Wood, and Deshawn.
-evaluations and profiles of the current assistant coaches
-prediction posts on both the wizards regular season, playoff records, and individual performances
-a what to do with Mike James contract post
-a new Wizards slogan brainstorm (Character.Commitment.Connection.KindaSucks)
-Bullets Awareness Campaign (August could be know-your-teams-name month)

More ideas

—A detailed statistical breakdown of Mike Smith vs. Mike Smith as Wizards.
—A recap of the Wizards/Bullets all-time greatest traffic-related mishaps (Kwame driving 100; CWebb driving while high on the way TO practice etc…)
—An analysis of the greatest Wiz 2nd-round picks (Don MacLean?).

You mean "floor shoot"

Loved Darius, just can’t pass up a chance to rib him for being completely unable to jump.

Yea

It was funny those couple rare times that he attempted to dunk and he either missed or got blocked or the very rare time(s) that he actually dunked.

Oberto is a nice body to have in there as insurance, and his beef jerky is delicious. (wait, that came out all wrong, his camping treats are great?)

So based on the summer league reporting, Heyvfelt was the closest to being considered for a roster spot, does this put him out of contention?

I have a really dumb question

I tried to find out what LLE stood through a google search and came up empty. What does that mean? Sorry.

Another non-exciting, but solid signing by Ernie

Similar to the Songaila, Stevenson and Blatche signings – all solid players, signed to below market contracts.

If Oberto can be 80% of what he was 2 years ago, the Wizards got a steal. He’s a good passer and protects the ball. Rarely shoots, except layups. Good rebounder, especially on the Offensive boards. Good one-on-one defender.

Probably the perfect 10-15 minute 4th or 5th big…..

Stevenson

was a good signing initially, but the re-up paid him way too much… And what are you referring to as the “Blatche signing”? The initial drafting of him or the extension?

Blatche’s extension, starting at $2.7 Million for the first year – was a very shrewd deal…. and looking at his numbers last year (10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block per game); and the fact that he’s become the first big off the bench – that contract is looking better and better.

Even Stevenson’s resigning was still below market for a Shooting Guard. Stevenson signed a 4-year deal worth $15 Million (roughly $3.75 Million per year) – that’s well below the AVERAGE salary in the NBA ( last year, the average NBA salary was $5.85 Million)… So, Ernie signed Stevenson for about 65% of the average…..

I’ll even argue that Stevenson is an average to below average NBA player; but not THAT much below….

Flip and Oberto question

Maybe someone with alot of bball experience can tell me this.

Firstly, how involved can/will Flip and Cassell be in evolving, balancing and strenghtning Oberto’s all around gameplay??

I am really curious as to that. I think Flip has a chip on his shoulder and judging what he did with Young he has a HUGE impact for the positive on each individual player

Seing that Oberto is a veteron I certainly think an old dog can learn new tricks. I would love to see the Oberto’s game play BE excellerated as well as upgraded.

What do you guys think?

by Unxpekted on Jul 23, 2009 10:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Flip's presence?

It seems like having Saunders as the coach will help the backcourt more than the front-court. Is that an incorrect assumption? I’m kind of going on his past teams and what I’ve heard/read but is that a fair assessment?

i think you're right as far as guards thriving under him

but i also think it may be more an issue of personnel more than coaching style. sheed and ben wallace didn’t like him from the beginning, because he wasn’t larry brown and so they didn’t give him much of a chance (that’s my read on it at least) and who else other than garnett did he have a chance to coach in MN? kandiman?
i think he’ll adapt to the roster, which, to channel mr. grunfeld, is very versatile and/or flexible in both the front and back courts.
i’m psyched – this team could be very good this season.

Yes!

We got the guy who started at PF for the 07 Finals Championship team! Oops, I mean he started at center… Even though the guy starting at PF was taller than him, heavier than him, stronger than him, and matched up against centers on offense and defense.
OK, that has nothing to do with the signing, I just think it’s hilarious how the Spurs keep trying to say Tim Duncan is a power forward.

Oberto seems like a solid guy though he pretty like invisible last year. We’ll see soon
