dont think you really have anything to concede
if your argument is about us staying in place and drafting him…
I think his staying in Spain is a direct result of being drafted by the Timberwolves.

I guess I don't really need to concede much
Since I always suggested drafting Rubio to trade him. However, this is a nod to all those who said we had no leverage if he stayed in Spain.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

On the other hand....
He still would have been an asset – that didn’t COST anything.

And I still think Ernie and Flip could've convinced Rubio this was the best place for him

I wonder if he would change his mind if he's traded
e.g., to the Knicks?

New York would eat him alive
but that’s still an interesting theory.

I dont think so
If he comes back in 2 seasons an improved player with a jumpshot the Wizards still lose. The Wizards only win if they become contenders in the 2 season that he plays in Itlay/

Nope
How would we have won by taking a guy that would not help us for the next two seasons? You do realize that we upgraded our shooting guard position considerably and that we are trying to win a championship in the next three seasons, right? Mike Miller is a whole lot better than rolling the dice on 2011-12.

you're humility is appreciated, Prada
but my only issue with the whole thing was that people were trying to frame this as if it was the Detriot/Carmelo/Darko ordeal. I don’t think you were really one of them.
That said, I still don’t don’t see Rubio being any better or worse than Nash, which to me means the team can survive without him.

I don't think any crow eating is in order
I just think that this furthering a dangerous precedent of drafting players already playing in other professional leagues.
I still don’t think he is an asset, because if he want to control where he goes, he is limiting your trading options, but I feel for fans of the Wolves.

Actually
I feel for fans of the entire NBA -
I like to see great PG play like Chris Paul, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash. I’m sure that ALL of us, whether we’re Wizard’s fans or not, still follow other players and have our favorites.
Now all of us are deprived of seeing this kid develop. I think he would have been very special in a couple of years.

agreed
I was one if favor of drafting him (though I didn’t foresee him dropping to 5th). Either way though, I was looking forward to watching him play.
Who knows though, he could end up better off growing up a little more over there. Maybe he’ll have a better NBA career in the long run because of it. Besides, Minnesota’s not going anywhere in the next 2 years, so he’ll be an asset when he returns.
