Open Thread: Summer League game 2 vs. Denver Nuggets
I just spoke to Randy Wittman, and he told me Dominic McGuire is in tonight and Javaris Crittenton is out. I assume that means Tyrese Rice will start at the point, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, here's your thread for tonight's game. I'm almost done transcribing my interview with Ernie Grunfeld and am going to ask more people about Dominic playing PF later tonight.
Denver's roster features former BF favorite Derrick Byars, first-round pick Ty Lawson, Real GM favorite Richard Hendrix and Kareem Rush, who seems a bit old to be playing in Summer League.

Its a terrible stream
I mean I haven’t found better, but its still not a great stream. What makes me mad is I tried to give the stinking NBA the 15 dollars and the payment page isn’t working. I want to watch my Wizards!

Both look pretty out of it, to be honest
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Thorpe @ truehoop
# david b. thorpe He’s just bigger.
# david b. thorpe Blatche has filled out. But it’s natural, not unnatural. Unnatural is better, because it means he’d be bigger and tighter.
What does that even mean?
i think what he means
is that blatch isnt more musclar, just bigger.
but either way, its poorly worded, even for twitter.

This makes more sense
david b. thorpe Blatche. Odom. Thomas(tyrus and tim). Smith(Josh). Clark. Very similar guys. Too talented for their own good.
And I agree, throw Randolph in there too.
He was great at the end of the year
And is doing great now. I don’t think your characterization is fair at all.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
agreed
i feel like the issue was more with Don Nelsons terrible rotation, not his work ethic.

I didnt say he was a bad player
Odom, Randolph, Smith etc. aren’t bad players. Its just their skill set means they will take long jumpers or handle the ball when it would be more efficient for them to bang inside like true PFs.
Is that Mike Miller they are interviewing at the table?

Can't get any audio
I tried to buy the NBA Pass, Mr. Stern decided not to take my money, and so I’m stuck with atdhe.net

That's what he said
asked who is the starting 2, he said “it doesn’t matter”.
He’s working out in LV with AJ and the coaches.
Javale stanketh
It must be a maturity, concentration, I’m too good for this Summer League crap kinda thing.

Javale mcsucking?
wow Javale sucks, atleast the past two games prove that. They double Young like hes Kobe, I think were losing this one.

mcgee has a long way to go before he sees major minutes. we’ll sign another big man.
by les boulez bomber on Jul 16, 2009 12:02 AM EDT reply actions
This must be making Grunfeld uncomfortable
McGees looking like bad Haywood insurance tonight.
by morethesamewiz on Jul 16, 2009 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions
What's worse
is that he’s not really “insurance”. Insurance is something you hope to never need. We will need a backup.
If you asked Grunfeld
He’d probably tell you Jamison or McGuire could play the 5, I mean that’s no crazier than the twisted logic he’s used to deem the Wizards a “deep” team

How can we not go undefeated?
Shouldn’t pride kick in at some point? I mean we got 5 NBA players on that team, inexcusable. Although, maybe its a deal where these other teams are freeballing and our guys are trying to run Flip’s new offense and so we are a little disoriented and making adjustments, while they are in a flow. I don’t know I can’t watch because its a bad stream on atdhe
by morethesamewiz on Jul 16, 2009 12:05 AM EDT reply actions
hey had a point guard who could penetrate at will and some decent big men.
we had no one really running our offense, there were not a lot of screens, poor passing, outhustled and turnovers.
by les boulez bomber on Jul 16, 2009 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions
Don't forget
bad turnovers
bad one on one play
missed assignments on players standing alone in the paint
outhustled
I don't even want to know
how you know other teams are " freeballing"
Getting buckets since 2003.

Translation
Wizards 2008-2009 bench played hard, Ty Lawson and some college scrubs were better.

One point about McGee
I didn’t see the game, so maybe you all can help me with this, but I wonder how much his poor play is related to this being the first time he’s played with the added weight.
Now writing for Ridiculous Upside, now with more draft coverage.
Are you referring to the no look over the head passes to no one or the 18 foot fadeaway airballs? Not sure if added weight is an issue there.
by MR on Jul 16, 2009 7:14 AM EDT up reply actions
I wasn't, though that's not good either
That’s more of the mental side. I was asking more about the physical stuff. For instance, to poach from Truth’s own site,
McGee attempted to hustle and run from the start, but looked winded later in the game.
That strikes me as something that might be related to additional weight, in addition to stuff like whether he’s using his “new body” to gain position effectively.
Now writing for Ridiculous Upside, now with more draft coverage.
The broadband thing made it hard to tell too much
but mostly it looked like JVM was kind of lost out there on both ends. Didn’t see a big physical difference.
