Four years, 18 million for a 23-year old. What a great signing. They still have enough money to possibly pursue Matt Barnes and Theo Ratliff.

Nelson/Johnson
Carter/Redick
Pietrus/Barnes
Lewis/Bass/Anderson
Howard/Ratliff

God, that team is sick. Plus, because of the Hedo s&t, they have a $7 million trade exception they can use later in the year to a team desperate to get under the cap. That's enough to add someone like Stephen Jackson, Shane Battier, Udonis Haslem, Leandro Barbosa, Joel Pryzbilla or Andres Nocioni.

Why do they have to be in our division?

Boy, if you're Ernie Grunfeld

Just before the Draft, after he made the trade, he had to be thinking he just made the Wizards better – probably good enough to compete for the EC…. by picking up two guys that give them what they desperately needed – long range shooting, passing and versatility.

Then Orlando loses Turkoglu, but signs Vince Carter Ryan Anderson, Brandon Bass – and also have a Trade Chip to use at the Deadline…

Boston picks up Rasheed Wallace.

Toronto picked up Hedo Turkoglu, DeMar DeRozan, Reggie Evans and Antoine Wright. The Turkoglu, Bargnani, Bosh front line will be very, very good. And they may not be done – there’s rumors they’re targeting Rasho Nesterovic.

Cleveland got Shaquille O’Neal and Anthony Parker.

Boozer is reportedly going to Chicago or Detroit.

And that’s just the East….

The Lakers got better by adding Artest (an upgrade over Ariza in my opinion) and Dallas re-signed Jason Kidd and picked up Shawn Marion and Marcin Gortat (I think Dallas just made themselves the team to beat in the West).

Let's put an optimistic twist on all of those

Then Orlando loses Turkoglu, but signs Vince Carter Ryan Anderson, Brandon Bass – and also have a Trade Chip to use at the Deadline… BUT – Turkoglu really made that team run like a fine tuned machine last year. Despite getting Jameer Nelson back, I think Orlando will have some adjustments to make playing without Hedo. Even if they do have that Trade Exception, they’re dangerously close to the Luxury Tax – and they are one of the teams that have repeatedly said they don’t want to pay the tax.

Boston picks up Rasheed Wallace – BUT WOW, are they old now….. No word on whether KG can come back to 100% – For all the Wizard’s fans worried about a relatively young Gilbert Arenas – you gotta know the Boston fans are worried about all the mileage on KG. The Rasheed thing could blow up in their faces as well…he’s not exactly a stable personality. I could see problems developing in that locker room.

BUT – just as Orlando will have some adjusting to do playing without Turkoglu, Toronto will have some adjustments to make as well. Also, I watched DeMar DeRozan’s first Summer League game yesterday – not impressed. He looked lost most of the time.. shot poorly and turned the ball over. I doubt he’ll be their starting SG – but I don’t know who WILL be… I still

Cleveland got Shaquille O’Neal and Anthony Parker, and resigned Anderson Varejao. BUT – both Ilgauskas and Shaq are ancient… The Wizards should be able to just run past them.

Boozer is reportedly going to Chicago or Detroit. BUT – he certainly won’t help them defensively. If he goes to Chicago, he’s a better fit, but if he goes to Detroit, I can’t see how he fits with Charlie Villanueva.

yes

my optimism is dwindling. But there is still hope. Sure, all those teams ungraded from outside. But, as has been said plenty of times on this site, we upgraded from within. If all of our “hopefully’s” (hopefully Arenas is REALLY back. Hopefully Haywood stays healthy. Hopefully the young guys are maturing. etc etc.) – turn into “Thank God’s”, then we’ll be right there with the top teams this year.
