A league source informed me that Rubio's agent, Dan Fegan, has no interest in his client playing for the Wizards, even if they were able to move up in the draft. The source told me that Fegan cannot see Rubio and Arenas sharing the same backcourt, since both players need the basketball to be effective. If anybody would know, it'd be Fegan, who represented Arenas from 2002-2006.

Going a bit far
I didn’t know the players were running the draft this year.

You have to remember
Rubio has leverage that no one else has because if he doesn’t like who drafts him, he can always go back to Spain. Sure, it makes him look like a jerk but if there were more players with the same options they’d probably make similar maneuvers.

He can go back to Spain -- to the team he is suing?
I don’t understand what agents are thinking sometimes. The maneuver to refuse to workout for any teams is really risky. Griffin worked out for the Clippers — what’s Rubio’s excuse? What is he hiding? If I recall correctly, I think the last top player who refused to workout for teams in a competitive setting was Yi, and that hasn’t worked out too well.

Careful
He’s not suing, he’s going to arbitration.
(I’m kidding around; the point still stands).

Question
If a team drafted him, wouldn’t they retain his rights for some time, even if he stayed in Spain?
I don’t get it…if the Wizards think he’d work with Arenas, why would he be so skittish? They aren’t going to draft someone that they don’t plan to use.

the stuff on Arenas is very interesting
Also from Michael Lee:
From what I hear, Arenas has been working hard to get in shape for the upcoming season, with a workout plan that he was designing the last week of the regular season. I heard that Arenas is in excellent shape and has already lost 20 pounds in the past month or so…
Two days after the Wizards hired Flip Saunders as coach, Arenas held an individual workout with him. The workout was part bonding exercise and part showing the new coach what he’s got. And, I’ve heard that Arenas has worked out with Saunders a couple of times since the season ended.

ugh
that he was designing
Scares the shinola out of me. He is not a doctor or CPT. He should not be designing anything. The last time he did the designing it contributed to more issues.

Lee was loose with his language there
The Wizards’ medical/training staff designed Gil’s offseason workout schedule during the last week of the regular season. (It was reported back then.)
If you are equally scared of the Wizards’ medical gurus designing the program, can’t say I blame you.

Yeah
I can’t decide which one scares me more.

hmm
i wondered why Washington was never mentioned, even after the rumor that they’d like to move up. I can’t see this as a big deal though, unless Fegan is putting his personal issues with Gilbert ahead of Rubio’s. He got the money from Gilbert’s second contract so its not that…
Nothing that can’t be put to rest if Ernie wants him. have a meeting while they are in town. Do it in NY or LA or something. Layout the organizations plans blah blah blah. No biggie.

LOVE the fact that gil is lighter
I thought he has looked really heavy since returning for the cavs series last year. The extra weight can only add stress to the knee, and contribute to him losing a step. I like Gil slimmer, a leader, and looking to facilitate and score. Could be scary good. An injury could also be franchise crippling bad…

This is according to "a league source?"
So now a “league source” is talking for Rubio’s agent, who is talking for Rubio? Could we be any further removed from the truth here?
I take this with a major grain of salt. Come on, Mike, talk to Fagen or Rubio. A “league source” is weak sauce.

Also
Arenas fired Fagen. Why would Fagen speak highly of his former client?

It seems like Fegan is manipulating Rubio to some degree
Rubio is only 18 and it’s likely that Fegan is steering this circus. Of course Fegan doesn’t want him in Washington or Memphis… He wants him somewhere where he can be the face of the franchise and get the bigger paycheck in endorsements that comes with it. You really think Rubio is trying to screw up his chances of playing in the NBA? I know if I were an 18 year old kid (okay, im only 19 but you get my point) I’d be glad to play anywhere.

So the problem in Fegan's mind is that both Rubio and Gil play PG?
Because Rubio is not going to see a ton more touches in OKC with Kevin Durant. And if wants to be in a big market, Washington is the best choice out of the top five. I can’t believe an “international star” like Rubio wants to spend the next 3-4 years in OKC.
Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

Ridiculous. If so, Sac Town is the only team in the top 5 that meets their strict criteria.

I agree with formula0
that its not that Rubio/Agent have a problem with Washington, but they have a problem with #5. After all of the talk of being the number 2 or even number 1 pick, to interview with the fifth team selecting would seem like a defeat.

If Rubio is not selected 1st or 2nd
He won’t be able to afford to pay off his huge buy-out….
