BF Draft Board: Pick #12

I know, I know, we could easily trade the pick, but with the Wizards getting the fifth pick and currently owning a high second-rounder, we need to fill out an official community draft board.  Keep in mind, folks, that this is a Wizards-centric draft board, not necessarily a list of who you believe are the top prospects in the draft.  This is in order of best fit to worst fit among the top prospects in this draft.  Ability of course plays a role, but consider first and foremost how this player will fit with the Wizards.

Jonny Flynn edged Ty Lawson and Jrue Holiday for the 11th spot on the draft board, and this may begin a run of point guards that this team doesn't need at #5 because there are so many that could be drafted at 32.  That is, of course, provided that the Wiz don't sell the pick with 14 players already on the roster.

Here's our draft board now.

  1. Blake Griffin (prospect profile)
  2. Ricky Rubio (prospect profile)
  3. Hasheem Thabeet (prospect profile)
  4. James Harden (prospect profile)
  5. Jordan Hill
  6. DeJuan Blair
  7. Tyreke Evans (prospect profile)
  8. Stephen Curry
  9. DeMar Derozan (prospect profile)
  10. Brandon Jennings
  11. Jonny Flynn

Voting will close for the 12th spot tomorrow night.

What's the fascination with Jrue again?

Lousy TO per possession rating, can’t shoot, players who have faced him in Cali ball in High school said he’s no kind of lockdown defender compared to his rep. (Per an article on HS prospects in nbadraft.net I’ll have to track down again).

And having watched a few UCLA games he never stood out except that his first step could get him to the rim but he didn’t seem to finish, ever.

Give me tubby James Johnson on the concept that if he’s this good at 12% body fat imagine when he’s not living on cafeteria chow and suddenly has big league trainers. Okay he’s a tweener forward, but maybe we need a back-up tweener forward who can muscle LeBron a bit, act as a possible replacement if we happen to trade someone higher on the depth chart.

James Johnson’s got skeeyoze though. I like his game. He’d fit the Flip Saunders scheme.

I don't really get the Jrue love either

He was a major disappointment. I attended the UCLA-Washington game at Pauley in person and he was just a complete non-factor. He turned it over when he got it and missed a ton of layups. My friend from LA was telling me how terrible he was.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Its very confusing

Even on the west coast where people have most likely seen more disappointing UCLA games, a lot of mock drafts have Holiday going as high as 4 to the Kings if Rubio is off the board. A lot of people over at Sactown Royalty seem to like him as the next guard on their board too. I guess he blew them away at workouts, but I don’t see how you improve your stock that much after such a weak season.

The is when I'm going with Eric Maynor for the hell of it

I don’t know his ‘stats’, but the guy is a gutsy gamer. Ty Lawson is very close though … it’d be a tough choice.

I also like Gerald Henderson over Holiday.

Yeah I like Henderson here

He would step in and fill the 2 spot … upgrade over Stevenson … 3 point range … very strong defender … can actually finish at the rim…. We need him much more than we need a backup point guard. I’m assuming those voting for the PGs here want to eventually move Arenas to the 2 guard.

Getting buckets since 2003.

Henderson looks like he'll be a solid pro

Solid with some potential on the side. He looked very explosive when I watched his games this year, with a good first step on his drives and on his pull up jumper. Subtract the fact that he’s a Dookie from his potential and I’m not sure where he stands, though.

As for drafting a PG – we still need a backup PG who can contribute some minutes behind Critt, because even if Mike James is somehow effective in limited minutes this year, I don’t see any scenario where we resign him after his contract is up. That leaves us thin at the Point, and it would be nice if we could draft a guy with some potential rather than just sign a FA to play 5 minutes on a random night like we did with Juan.

Yea, I'm not a Dookie fan, but...

I was really impressed how Henderson improved his game during last season.

Everyone knows I like Darren Collison

I think he would be a good late 1st round pick if the Wizards trade down…..

Perhaps they could pick up Patrick Mills with their 2nd round pick
