Nick Young, looking a little more muscled up, shooting in the no-defense Drew Summer League. Still undefeated.

I saw a little bit of him towards the end of the video
they just didn’t show any highlights, which is weird since he should have had a lot considering he was playing people who were so much smaller than him.

Nope, not JaVale
Not as far as I can tell, what 0:00 of the clip are you looking at? There’s a long-armed player but nobody with the 7’1" frame and superfortress wingspan of JaVale.

Yeah, you're right
I thought I saw him around the 3:46 mark, but that guy’s too short to be him.

Could not disagree more.
In my mind, we have no 2 guard. I am worried that D Stevenson is never gonna be the player he was. Young is too careless with the ball and cannot hit the open three with enough consistency. Will he ever learn to hit a J without falling away … cuz really, that makes it harder!!!

Be Patient
We owe it to Nick to be at least as patient as we were with Blatche before we throw him under the bus. I still think he can get his act together. Having a really good coaching staff to tutor him ought to help.

Wrong
careless with the ball
That criticism may have been valid in 2007-08, but NOT last year… Young’s Turn Over rate was only 9.0 (down from 13.6 last year) – that’s the second lowest ratio on the team behind Jamison’s extremely low 6.5; and a good ratio for a Shooting Guard ( Joe Johnson / Ray Allen territory… )
There are some fair criticisms you could make about Nick Youngs game: He doesn’t pass very well, he sometimes lacks defensive effort, his 3-point shooting fell off from last year, he doesn’t rebound. All of those can be corrected.
But to say that he is “too careless with the ball” is just inaccurate.

Well, "careless with the ball" doesn't have to mean turnovers

bad
bad shots = careless with the ball

And again
I’d characterize your assessment (bad shots) as one that fit LAST year (2007-08), but not this past year (2008-09); as Nick better incorporated his game into the Offense – especially after the Wizards started running more Pro-style sets (rather than the Princeton).
During the Summer after the 2007-08 season, Nick came back with a sick, between-the-legs crossover move that he had added to his repertoire; that significantly improved his ability to shake his defender with his ball handling skills.
He showed he could get to the rim and finish or draw the foul. He was good at catch-and-shoot; and practically the only player on the Wizards (besides Butler) that could could create his own shot.
Say he doesn’t play defense… Say he doesn’t pass the ball…. Say he can’t rebound…

I think God
was referring to Young’s handle. I rather ship Blatche out than Young, but my belied is that slick shooting SG are the more abundant commodity in the league, and his contributions are more easily replaced than one might suspect.
However, if he stopped shooting his fadeaway, and committed to defense, I would probably change my mind…..

I'll stand by my statements
I don’t think that Nick Young is “too careless with the ball” – regardless of how you “mean” it.
Caron Butler could be characterized as careless with the ball. JaVale McGee… Crittenton…

All three were too careless with the ball this season

Yep
I really think that his only big problems at this point are rebounding and playmaking, and he’s actually shown a few times that he’s capable of getting into the lane and handing off to the big man.

A funny thing I hear people say is that he’s a poor man’s Kobe. I think its very disrespectful to Kobe but that’s their opinion. Nick is making good progress and I am excited to see how much he does improve those inconsistencies and become even better at those qualities I love about his game.
