My new favorite undrafted player

If the Wiz are going to take a flier on just one undrafted player, this is who I want to see:

John Bryant:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=28108

He is huge (listed as 6'10" 300lbs).  He put up huge stats last year (18.1/14.2/2.5).  Sure, he played for Stanta Clara (who did, it should be noted, produce one pretty decent NBA player), but he still averaged a double/double in his games against Arizona/Georgia/Gonzaga.  Heyvelt had big #s in one of the games, but it is hard to tell how much was head-to-head against Bryant.

He was totally under my radar until seeing this from HoopsAnalyst:

Interesting

He seems like the type of player that summer league ball was made for. I’d love to see him try out; he might be the cheapest decent player we could possibly get.

Hmm. He can't play the 4

But he would be a body to throw at Howard, if he can get back down the court in time.

Getting buckets since 2003.

We Don't Need a 4

So I would not hold that against him. Jamison, Blatche, and McGee can hold the fort down there.

reminds

me a little too much of Bryant Reeves. Has decent footwork, but so did Reeves in college. I guess he wouldn’t be bad as a 12th man.

Reeves Would Have Been a Good Player

If he could have simply kept his weight down. There really wasn’t that much wrong with his game. Jake had a good link to a story about him a couple of months ago here.

I

remember him being not consistent enough. Maybe my comparison was short-sighted. Reeves will always go down as a bust because of his contract and short career. But the point I was really trying to make is that John Bryant seems like the type who dominates against lower level competition because of his size. I guess maybe the Bryant Reeves comparison came from the shared name.

Reeves would be fantastic

He was basically a league-average center his first two seasons and somewhat above average his third season, before injuries and weight gain caught up with him. That may be somewhat disappointing out of a #6 overall pick, you take that in a heartbeat from an undrafted player.

For the league minimum, I’d be happy even if he was nothing more than a large person for McGee to get stronger against in practice.

Right On

Couldn’t agree more.
